The Body Fat Percentage, is a well recognised measure of your of health. A high percentage of body fat can increase the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular and other health conditions. The ideal body fat percentage is different for men and women and it varies with age. Like the majority of the global population, mine was too high. This video talks about how I reduced my body fat percentage by just under a third in 14 months, with exercise and changes to my eating and lifestyle habits.
The Muscle-Up exercise performed in the video, is an example of the calisthenics exercises that helped me reduce my body fat percentage. I have recently uploaded a video which is a tutorial for this skill.

I viewed the entire video and am sending you a bouquet of a dozen kudos for an excellent job done; your honesty and transparency are impeccable. I went through a similar journey at age 64 when I allowed myself to get out of shape and fat. I became a man on a mission with a goal leading up to my 65th birthday and during the journey had several body fat measurements during this period. My first test in December 2018 measured by bodyfat at 30.7 percent. In December 2019, it measured 17.4 percent. During this period, my body weight did decrease by about 12 lbs. COVID came along and I relocated to another state so that ended my body fat measurement testing resource and testing. I'm sure my current body fat is higher than the December 2019 measurement. There are several methods used to test body fat and their accuracies vary. I had mine done using a Dexa-scan machine which I believe is more accurate than others, like perhaps the one you used in your gym. I think what's most important is using the same machine so you can compare changes without measurement differences due to the machine used. Also, know that your body fat measurements will vary depending on hydration levels. For example, my body fat percentages were always higher in the morning than later in the day. I've maintained food journals for a long time and know that it's a matter of calories in versus calories expended. If you have a calories deficit, you'll lose weight in the long run. Strength training to add muscle will change the composition of your total body weight between fat and lean body mass. It's a never-ending journey the older we get and I'm still on my journey at age 69. Thanks again for your excellent testimonial, enjoy your weekend.

I hope you have had a great weekend. Was so good of you to leave me that comprehensive and sincere comment. Was such a good read, and was inspiring too as we’ve had similar journeys from different sides of pond! Was good to hear your take on bond fat, and diet. I’m still a few years behind you but I hope to be in your shape at your age. Your commitment is awesome. I do think you have an advantage of being in a warmer climate! The U.K. wasn’t designed for outdoor sport, unless it’s the summer! Take care my friend, sending best wishes.. 💪👍👍

Well done sir, you're an inspiration. I'm 51, used to rock climb when young and getting back into it after 20 years. I've lost 4kg, and BMI 21, but I'm aiming to get lower. When I was 30 I could do a 1 arm pull up, but no way now. Getting the climbing grades back up, now doing F6c+ / 7a. Need to eat less. Eat well, but smaller portions. Reduce carbs, especially fat. Doing weights twice a week.

I think doing muscle ups the way you have been doing them is impressive! I also think that if you incorporated a resistance band into every other muscle up wokrput or even just at the end when you start failing, you'd make gains quicker. I'm 41 this year and have been lifting for about 2 years on and off but since January, I'm taking it the next level. Loosing body fat and doing cardio. You have inspired me to start muscle ups in the spring in a nearby workout park. I used to train muscle ups a few years back. Thanks 👊

My goals are strength endurance (high reps) to prepare for a mock PRMC PFT test, so I am doing high reps, push-ups, inverted rows, sit ups, dips, air squats, etc.. When I first started I was just doing push-ups, most days. After a year I started to add in pull-up. I was just doing what I was enjoying, with no real plan or goal. Now my workouts are usually 3 times a week, and more structured. However, I like to keep it interesting, so I might do a 6 week weighted pull up program, followed by a high reps program. Or sometimes, I like to do ten sets ten, push-ups, dips, pull-ups, squats, chin-ups and then 100 biceps curls with each arm. So basically 700 reps altogether. Good luck with what you are doing!

Congratulations! And I agree, these machines working with electrical resistance are only good for before-and-now comparisons with yourself. One doesn't have to care about the absolute value one bit. I once fooled such a machine by having it take my measurements, then drinking one liter of water, and taking my measurements again. And the result was a slightly higher bodyfat percentage reading, despite the fact that my actual bodyfat percentage was slightly lower now, because I had added one kilogram of non-fat mass to my bodyweight. But since the water was still in my stomach, it didn't change the electrical resistance of my extremities, so the machine's algorithm drew the wrong conclusion 😁

That’s interesting to know. I must admit, for the cost of just one U.K. pound, a go, well was 70p, but didn’t give me any change, I wasn’t expecting perfection, just a guide. But still happy with that. I actually took a reading a month earlier and it was all good, showing I was progressing in the right direction.

I'm 55, workout a lot, 71 kilo and look way too lean, I need like another 7 kilo yet my 'Garmin' says my fitness age goes up from 47.5 to 52.5 when I increase my weight to over 73 kilo. For this reason, I don't take any notice of it. I'm 5'7''. Body fat percentage is far more important

The best method of burning fat and building muscle, leg and upper body fast is rowing. Get a concept 2 if you can't afford one join a gym. Start by setting it to calories then see if you can burn 40 calories in under 2 minutes. Easy right? This will teach you just how hard you need to work to burn off a few calories. I'm 59 and not slowing down any time soon. Rowing is the ultimate cardio work out. Ps I built a shed just for pull ups rain or shine no excuses 💪👍

Congrats, I’m skinny fat myself, I’m currently going back on my 5x5 workout. But this program I’m going calorie surplus with it being a strength training you need to constantly add 1.25KG To each side of the bar in every workout I don’t think I don’t think I’d manage this 5x5 workout on a calorie deficit I always make sure I’m getting enough carbs on my training of three days week.
@funwithcalisthenics
@funwithcalisthenics 5 ай бұрын
You sound like you’ve done your research. I think the 5x5 with progressive overload is a great routine. And I agree, you don’t want to be on a calorie deficit at the same time.
