I’m not sure what you budget is, but Minnesota traps are very good. You 6 traps, and it comes with items to get you started. I bought a kit and it had everything I needed to get started; including 6 traps, dirt sifter, different varieties of scent bait, a sledge hammer with pick to drive your traps into the ground and to make a trap bed, a rod to drive the traps into the ground, a whole book on trapping sets and techniques, and a dogwood trap dye after you get done boiling them. The kit is 200$ and is well worth it. The certain trap name is the MB550. Good luck!!!
@dylan2705
@dylan2705 5 жыл бұрын
If you plan on trapping every year I would definitely recommend mb550's. Yes they are pricey but they are the best trap on the market for coyotes and bobcat.

When your out in the field hunting coyotes how do you store the ones you've already shot in the field so they don't go bad? And do you send them to the tannery or do it yourself?
@HiddenInstinct
@HiddenInstinct 7 жыл бұрын
It's usually cool enough we just put them in back of the truck. If you can skin them in the field they will stay good. We don't tan them. We put them on a stretcher and let them dry out that way. We will be doing a video explaining the entire process
@tonybarr5930

Are the furs for NAFA tanned or just dried? For instance, if I'm going to stockpile furs til the market comes up, are the cased pelts tanned?? I've been tanning my own skins and recently decided to do some cased pelts boarded to NAFA specs... I tanned the first one and it was a royal pain... just can't stretch a cased fur properly to break down the fibers...
@HiddenInstinct
@HiddenInstinct 7 жыл бұрын
Tony Barr all the ones we send off are just dried. Which method did you use to tan them. I haven't tanned any yet but would like to do a couple big ones one day
@tonybarr5930
@tonybarr5930 7 жыл бұрын
Hidden Instinct I dried and stretched them, then 2 applications of salt over 48 hrs, a salt bath for 18-24 hrs, then tanned using Deer Hunters Tanning Solution... I was brain tanning just for the experience, but switch to chemical tanning because it's faster and seems to be a better finish product.

That's good stuff to know. We have the black/silver/white color phased coyotes in Kentucky. I didn't know they were sought after, for lack of a better term. I can't believe the prices of these coyote skin items in your links. We're not going to "get rich" by hunting, trapping and selling pelts, but anything is better than nothing. I think I'd rather have a coat made out of coyotes that were taken by me, so it's more personal. The problem is, I'm not into dressing like a pimp. :-)

On average what do coyote furs sell for? I am from here in Utah as well. Can you get more then the $50 bounty? is it worth the time and effort selling the fur? Or is it easier to just take the $50 bounty?

+Hidden Instinct Yeah, I'm starting to figure that out! Just began calling in December and although I know where lots of prints and scat are I've yet to see a dog. I know they're extra tough to call around here but I must really suck at it! Hoping to keep learning from your videos.

TJ Jones... when you sell your fur to a fur buyer ask them why .. metal scores the inside of the hide and it will sometimes tear where the wire was on the hide during the tanning proses ... I personally have seen fur buyers pay considerably less for it being put up on wire . Wood is we're the money is at ..most people don't understand the fur end of killing animals and selling them I have spent a lot of time and money to figure out exactly what buyers want .... and my fur checks speak for themselves. Killing animals is the easy part putting up fur and handling it to were you are selling the top cat or coyote at a sell is another thing . I personally believe if a man kills an animal for its skin he should do all he can to get as much $ as possible out of it I think it's just makes sense and we owe it to the animal ... do your homework of fur prep . Good luck !

It takes a while to get paid by NAFA. 2 to 3 months. But it may be their best option to sell and make the most where they live Bobcat, no attack on you. Just not everyone has fur buyers close to them anymore.

Đức Trí Lâm it would have to be tanned to ship too far so it will last. I believe allpredatorcalls.com sells them tanned for around $100-$150. I could be wrong but I know they used to. If not I could do some checking around. I know there are a couple other websites that sell tanned coyote hides.

No need to kill these animals. Fur beit fake or real on coats and hoods looks awful and cheap anyway. No need to kill these beautiful creatures

So if you had a coyote going after your daughter or sibling or family member or friend; literally dragging their bloodied body away from you over your yard, if you wouldn't be able to scare it off easily because that's their food, you could try hitting it really hard to make it black out, or just shoot or kill it. Would you really let them drag off that person? So when a coyote starts eating the only thing that you have to earn any form of income/food for your family, you just let them continue to do it? So you would actually call someone else to capture the animal? And they actually go ahead and put it in cages and show them around until they die, or they actually kill them and sell their fur. So when all the plants are all dead and all there is is a bunch of animals, you would just let them starve and die and rot all around you causing disease? So you would let their lifes go to waste? When it came keep you warm, save your life, even your family and people you know. People who hunt normally only do it because it saves their family a lot so they can survive. Hunters that only do it for sport, and because they have fun killing things, are not really worth it and give everyone else a bad name . Maybe they should just get into a butchering program instead. Do they think or know that alternative? Only about half of them do. The others don't really care or don't even know. And the other half are just too lazy to even try. Killing and hunting, should only be done for survival and need. Not excessive want. We, the human race are omnivores. We eat meat when we have to, and we eat vegetables when we can. If we don't have it balanced very well, we get sick, we get it ill, we die.

We aren't hunting them for their fur. We hunt them in areas where deer, antelope, and cattle live and have their fawns and calves. Coyotes will decimate wildlife and livestock in these areas. yes we are selling the fur but that is not the reason we are hunting them
@susannewinslow5717

Because that was nearly The only way to keep warm before clothing stores showed up. Especially if you didn't have long haired goats or sheep. You would be screwed if you didn't. That and in some areas farmers, ranchers, and people get overrun by huge herds of coyotes killing off all their livestock, even their kids, their animals. It got to the point that everybody went out to hunt the coyotes. Till the coyotes nearly became extinct in several areas. Then the states banned hunting them. Wait a couple more years and they come back and numerous again. It is nature. We are meant to take care of them and keep them from going extinct. And also make sure they don't become too numerous. Like pigs, they can have 20 to 30 babies in a year. One large adult pig can feed a family of five for an entire year and a half. Same thing goes with rabbits, deer, elk, cows ect. There is an abundance of plant life and other foods, all of those animals and more will reproduce at an alarming rate. When the herbivores start gathering in large numbers so does the meat eaters. To counter balance each other. A balance in nature. Because the animals that normally eat the coyotes are gone mostly, or small in numbers and put in cages, they got rampant. Like with shark attacks, that normally only ever happens because the sharks are starving or they are guarding their home or in a very very rare occasion it is because they actually eat humans ( because we are swimming in their territory so often and that we look like fish to them.) If we were to cut back on fishing so much we may have zero shark attacks in the entire world. It is a very delicate balance and tricky sometimes. I hope you get this message.
