The problem is typically that the tanning solution is not permeating the hide entirely, because like you said, it's too thick. Of course, you risk thinning it too much and the hair slipping or putting holes in the hide as well. Second, the break is often not thorough enough. You need a really good abrasive implement like a post or a concrete corner to work that hide against as its drying and even after.

Yes I just did a video on soft tanning a coyote again. I am going to touch on a few things I thought about I left out in the last one's. And yes to thick it doesn't get through but I did mention in another video that sometimes you need to oil twice.

Yes I am in the middle of it now. Just got the motor and barrel. Got to start assembling. I get it , I am a little lazy too. Also I think the tumbler will really be a good soft tan. Will show a video when put together. Good deal on building your own.

Yes and I do it in the otter soft tanning video. It works but leaves a little mess which is ok. But I have a fleshing machine and really don't do it much. If you don't have a machine it is fine to clean the meat off but it won't thin the skin.

When you’re scraping the flesh you should have it wrapped around a flat board shaped to fit the inside of the pelt.

The thicker the harder to soften by hand. But you can try.

That might be good for some indoor slippers with some kind of really soft fur like bunny fuzz or the neighbors cats, but if you are going to be doing much walking around, you won't like it.

@@carolinabushwacker Oh wow. That actually surprising, all I've ever heard is that the stuff is trash from the online community... It was the only stuff I could find in my area though, so I'm super glad so see someone has results (and it appears all the failures are more than likely due to leather thickness and improper break technique.)
