We have no stock left to secure. We have plans to move the new ones. The predator killed 10 chicken. Definitely not killing to survive.

@@LaidBackLiving a female bobcat will kill excessive amount of livestock if it has a litter to feed. your bobcat problem will increase next year, not only will your adult female bobcat, but its young too.

I feel so incredible sad for humans who don't respect nature. Shame on you!

The reason I sent you the message that I did is that at 75 I've made all of the same mistakes you've made and many more. However that's what makes life such an adventure. Keep up the good fight it's all worth it in the end. There's no better way to learn.

We have plans to build a solid coop. A little difficult with a foot of snow on the ground. Did the basics get covered in this video? We know the first videos were pathetic. This video is to help anyone who was in the position we were in a few weeks back. Thanks for the comment and watching!

@@LaidBackLiving I also have 50 years of trapping experience since I was a small child and I would like to commend you for the knowledge you obtained between your first video and this one. You learned more about trap prep and basic setting requirements in one week than I did in my first 5 years as a kid reading Fur, Fish and Game magazine. I agree with others, you do need to make your animal pens more secure. If you don't mind some constructive suggestions, I would recommend you make the lower section of you fence out of 1/2" hardware cloth and bury the bottom about 1 foot below grade with a "L" bend at the bottom with the base of ,the L going away from the fence for a foot or more. This prevents a digging predator from going under your fence. Almost all predators will dig down at the base of the fence and when they hit the 1 foot horizontal bend, they will give up. I, unfortunately, learned this the hard way a few years ago when two mink chewed through my flimsy chicken wire pen and killed 225 baby pheasants. If you are sure you are after a bobcat, you might consider hanging, from a tree on a string, a highly visible item like a chicken wing, turkey feather or even tin foil several feet from your set. Bobcats are highly inquisitive and will investigate the area and your bait and lure will due the rest. As they say, curiosity killed the cat! Also look for videos on "straw sets" which will work very nicely in/on extremely frozen ground. Sorry this was so long...just wanted to encourage you to learn more about trapping. Your're doing great

As is the case when one dies of natural causes in the wild. It’s not pleasant then either.

@@LaidBackLiving Most modern traps today (like your coil springs) have offset jaws that do not close all the way. This allows the animals leg to be "held" and there is seldom bone or blood vessel damage. I have released many non-target animals from these traps and the animal scampers away without any damage to the leg/paw. Unfortunately, the haters are told stories of trappers in the "old days" using jaws with teeth (mostly bear traps) that did severe damage to any animal who triggered the trap. Those days are long gone. I know trapping is a highly emotional topic but haters should educate themselves before calling others names. Just do a You Tube search for "bobcat release" or "fox release", etc. and you will be surprised.

If you had lost a pet to a coyote as I did you would feel much differently. My wife had my dog on the leash...the coyote hesitated a few times but eventually moved right past my screaming wife. I will spare you the rest of the gory details. This was in a rural area just outside of town.
