Fusing can be such an expensive hobby! So it can be fun to find alternative ways to use your glass and your kiln, like firing into ordinary kitchen ceramics found at a thrift store or the market.
Here, I used the wavy piece I found at a thrift store and these simple ceramic bowls found at a discount store called Daiso. I also used the Zyp brand boron nitride spray.
Other materials include Bullseye’s peacock blue (1176) scraps that I chopped up and some chopped up scraps of collage glass (4216 to be specific) and some extra turquoise blue frit.
Full fuse firing schedule:
400-1100-45
50-1225-90 (long bubble squeeze)
600-1520-30
9999-900-240 (4 hours to just be extra conservative!)
100-600-0
My fire polish on those piece in the bonus footage:
400-1275-60
9999-900-120
100-600-0

Nice projects. You always come up with clever ideas. I think the flag pieces look like they would make nice book weights. The blue is quite pretty. Loving the pendant!

Hi Jamaison, I’ve had this video saved for almost a year intending to try fusing in a ceramic dish. The other day I found a dish at the thrift store and finally did it! I slumped a piece I had done earlier but thought it would look better with a concave shape. I followed your directions and it came out great. Thanks for sharing your fearless experiments. It helps us more timid fusers to step out and try new things :)

I've never purchased a "Super Thanks" before (I also never knew that was available -- neat feature!) but after I watched your video, I was thrilled to be able to give you a "tip!" This is one of the best KZfaq videos I have seen in ages! I am brand new to fusing and stumbled onto this video -- now I can't wait to try this!!!! Your explanations were perfect: informative enough for a newbie, but succinct enough to get to the details without boring experienced fusers. Thumbs up on a great video!

Nice share .. the pucks look like they could be jazzed up with some tack fused elements or Murini and used as paper weights or designed into holiday ornaments. Looking forward to seeing how you incorporate them in into future projects. You are always creative so I am sure they will go into another awesome project.

Great video! Would love to see you use those pieces or other store-bought pieces as molds for slumping. I wonder if a cheap ceramic salad bowl would work as a slumping mold. I really enjoy your videos, it’s delightful to see someone who think exactly like me. I go to dollar stores, IKEA, thrift stores and look at everything as possible ideas for glass art projects. 😊

If using for slumping, you would likely need to drill a hole or two into the bowl to allow air to escape. But yes, I’m sure you could slump in just about anything like that!

This detail is in the video notes on KZfaq. If you are watching in the app on your phone, you probably just click the headline under the video. If on your computer, I think it’s usually in a gray box with “show more” under the video headline.

What is Zip? I’m a potter glass artist in UK. Always have spare glass fruit. Can you use unglazed ceramic?
@JamaisonSchuler
@JamaisonSchuler 2 жыл бұрын
ZYP, boron nitride. And yes, most glassware molds are unglazed bisqueware, treated with kiln was or boron. I tried release agent so the glass doesn’t stick.

Kathy, am I understanding that you use the scouring powder in place of fire polishing? I’m trying to absorb as much info before I build up my nerve to plug in my kiln! I love barkeepers friend for my stainless steel! Thanks
@kathybidler8843
@kathybidler8843 2 жыл бұрын
@@McGeeglass the Barkeeper's Friend is abrasive enough to remove the Zip residue, but not harm the glass. If you need to grind any glass spikes, those will need a fire polish. Plug in that kiln and have fun. BUT, if this is your new kiln, I highly recommend you take the time to make yourself a set of test tiles to see how exactly your kiln works. Great visual s of glass at different temperatures.
