TEDxESA talk at the European Space Agency on 11 November, 2015:
ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti joined TEDxESA on November 11th, 2015 with a personal account of her mission to space in a talk titled “FUTURA mission: 200 days in space”.
The FUTURA mission was an incredible achievement, setting new records both for the longest single space flight by a woman (199 days, 16 hours, if you want the exact numbers) and for the longest uninterrupted spaceflight of a European astronaut.
Many things have been written about Samantha Cristoforetti and her extraordinary 200-day mission to the International Space Station ISS. But nothing beats hearing her talk about her unique experience.
The theme of the first official TEDxESA 2015 event was Science Beyond Fiction.
Samantha Cristoforetti is an ESA astronaut of Italian nationality. Between November 2014 and June 2015 she spent 199 days on board the International Space Station ISS as a Flight Engineer for Expedition 42 and 43. During her Mission entitled “Futura”, Samantha conducted countless experiments in the Station’s laboratories and set a new duration record for both longest single space flight by a woman (199 days, 16 hours) and for the longest uninterrupted spaceflight of a European astronaut. Until then, TEDxESA host André Kuipers’ second mission PromISSe was the longest spaceflight in European history.
Samantha was selected as an ESA astronaut in May 2009. She joined the European Space Agency in September 2009 and completed basic astronaut training in November 2010. In July 2012 she was assigned to her Futura mission aboard the International Space Station ISS. Samantha is a Captain of the Italian Air Force and was born in Milan, Italy, on 26 April 1977.

You know, she's remarkably brilliant. Not only because she is intelligent and a great engineer, a pilot and an astronaut (all of which require extensive knowledge and hard study), but also as a person, you can see she's just brilliant. A great woman, a great role model. I know she is for me, at least.

Exactly vayha79, shes an actor and the profession of an actor is `professional liar`, just as the profession of a politician is `professional liar`, just as the profession of the popular media is to project `professional lies` into the mainstream for the automatized to graft onto their own collective fake reality ...

vayha79 you’ve got to be kidding. when flat earthers argue that there’s no proof, it’s bc it’s so hard to prove something to someone who thinks that everything is a lie. and even when you’ve finally managed to get a point across, they somehow mould their theories around that fact in a way that ups their agenda. you say that you like to study this subject, but i’d encourage you to *actually* look at the science instead of becoming paranoid that everything is fake and “proving” your theories with “common sense” logic that very quickly jumps to a lot of conclusions like stating things like “i can’t see any curve” and “cgi exists so...” when if you actually studied this you’d find that a flat earth is far more outrageous. you point to “globe heads” and tell us we’re delusional and childish for believing this but flat earthers jump to so many conclusions such as “the government is hiding the shape of the from us bc they don’t even want us to know the shape of our very planet to keep us brain dead”, “space is just a massive swimming pool with a green screen”, “astronauts are actors”, “even tho we proved that the earth spins, we’re going to mould that fact to suit our message”, “ice wall”, “all australians are actors”, “antarctica doesn’t exist”, “video of 0 gravity in space is just cgi”, “if astronauts aren’t actors, they’re just as blind as most people are. they wear vr contact lenses”. believing that the earth is round isn’t a religion, it’s called facts. if anything, flat earth is a religion. you feed of each other in the sense that you feel left out and different and find comfort in denying science and using your imagination to create unprovable theories in order to feel “woke” and unique when those “common sense theories” can be proven by science. you find comfort in having other people have the same beliefs. i mean i really don’t mean to sound condescending, but i do feel sorry for you. please, if what you preach is true, go to the edge of the earth then. please. and video it. bc rn all of this back and forth is incoherent rambling. nasa (and others) has already shown everything to their ability rn but that’s not good enough for you bc *nothing* we’re told is real. i really think that you’re giving the government too much credit here. but by all means, go. prove it to us.

@@meggypeggy7960 you know what is the saddest thing? They believe in those things just because someone told'em they'll be better than others if they can understand everything's a lie. And they believe in that just because they've never been the best. -Sorry for grammar mistakes-

That is sad. Someone's attractiveness shouldn't take away from their brain power, and what they are contributing at all. This is the reason many attractive women in the STEM fields prefer looking geeky/nerdy/unkempt. Not to mention that even so, everyday is a struggle for them. This is incredibly sad and wrong.

My biggest issue on the ISS would be staying awake and falling asleep. Your always comfertable. So how do you tell your self to sleep besides just getting into your underwear and closing your eyes. on earth you get into your underwear, and lay down in a nice comfy bed. so your body relaxes. But up there, your always relaxed.

Grande Samantha!
