FWD Race Alignment Tip [HPA Q&A]

Күн бұрынFront wheel drive cars tend to deliver a solid amount of understeer, and it isn't a trait you simply just have to deal with, you can tune it out via some alignment and setup changes, specifically a roll center correction kit.

The fk8 Honda Civic Type R is the fwd exception. It handles better than my previously owned 04 WRX STI. It turns in very nicely and oversteers predictably. What did help is a stiffer 22mm Whiteline rear sway bar.

You need to make your front sway bar bushings and endlinks stiffer, basically just upgrading it if not change it entirely. Camber the rear tires by 1/2 a degree if it isn’t already. The fk8 is not the exception to fwd. All fwd can be raced and exceptionally at that. The reason subaru made awd/fwd not awd/rwd.

It's been interesting to see them 'evolve' over the last few years from single name accounts that would just post 'Hello' to the dodgy link spreaders onto ones that have full 'conversations' with themselves before dropping links. Some of them are really quite impressive - Taz.

Should I have more negative camber on the front or the rear for FWD cars like fk8 Type R?

It’s typical that you’d run more static negative camber on the front but it depends on the kinematics of the suspension. Ultimately the way to find out what the car needs in the way of camber is through measuring tyre temps with a tyre pyro and adjusting to suit - Andre

You can make your own roll centre correction components if nothing is available commercially - Andre

@@PROofHAPPYWHEELS Find a race team running the same or similar car. There is nothing on the market for my Volvo so I got a set of tubular arms made by a race team that has a Ford Focus which is the same base chassis.

Is it okay to run a reversed staggered setup like 17x9 front and 17x8 rear?

i think itd be better with bigger tires in the back, you want the back end to swing out, for example for drifting you want a low center of gravity and more weight in the rear
