FX Royale air rifle regulator air leak fix, regulator adjustment, barrel removal. LOOK BELOW FOR REG ADJUSTMENT TIPS AND O-RING SIZES! General tips to assemble this air gun. Maintenance tips for this and other pellet guns. Can also be applied to the 400, 500, and Boss air rifle. I also cover how to clear a pellet from the barrel, change the breech O-ring, and fix a leaking fill probe.
This is a quote from an exceptionally helpful member on Airgun Nation....
"the brass nozzle will change regulator pressure if you turn it.
The brass plunger with the belleville washers holds the delrin seal, and moves back and forth to regulate the pressure.
The brass regulator nose has got a conical shape to form a sealing surface in correlation with the delrin seal of the plunger.
If you back out the regulator nose, the piston has to travel a longer way to form a seal against the reg. nose, hence the belleville are also compressed more, creating more resistance. (=higher reg. pressure)
In fact, increasing spring tension to increase the reg. pressure is about the same as backing out the reg nose, with the difference that in the last case the plunger has gotten a longer stroke. More travel equals more spring tension.
Audrius and huma regulators work according this principle, the pressure is controlled by moving the reg. nose in or out, instead of increasing spring pre-tension.
Turn in is less pressure, turn out is more pressure.
Long story short, the reg. nose should be hand tight, to just let it sit against the ridge in the reg. body. The o-ring will provide the seal. Hold reg. body with a loose grip between your fingers to tighten, when it starts to slip through your fingers, it is tight enough."
O-ring sizes:
2.9X1.78 (1x)
6.07X1.78 (1x)
7.66X1.78 (1x)
11.6X2.4 (2x) - These are the two main ones on the outside.

Like i said on the forum, extremly helpful video! Just one thing, in the min 1:52 you said that if you have that hole you have a reg installed, that's not correct. The reg vent hole is pre-drilled from factory to make easier the process to install a regulator when you want to, so that hole is on every Royale, the difference is that it may not be drilled all the way though to act as a reg vent hole. Cheers and nice video!

Thanks Tom for the great video. My problem is it needs to shoot a little faster. I bought mine about a year and a half ago. My main concern is that when I have it on high it has an average 925fps with .22 caliber 14.3gr pellets. When I turn it to medium it drops to 620fps and when I go to low it is 430fps. What could be causing that? Thank you for your time.
@Atoyota25
@Atoyota25 2 ай бұрын
Hi Steven, Have you tried the 18gr pellets? The Royale's have always been a fan of those. 18's at about 905-910 (IIRC) is magic! How fast are you looking to go? If you break the speed of sound, there's a good chance you'll see your groups open up. Regarding your question, there is a balance between the regulator and the hammer spring adjuster (Part #D2) If you have adjusted your hammer spring already, you may have pushed it too far? If you've adjusted your regulator, without a reg tester, it may be set too low. (A regulator tester is the ONLY way to accurately adjust those regulators.) Be advised, the hammer spring adjuster has loc-tite on it! You have to heat it up to break the loc-tite loose or you'll strip the hex key hole. A side option might be to grab a HUMA regulator from AoA. I've been thinking about picking one up for my loaner R400. 2 reasons... 1) It's HUMA which means it's quality 2) It has adjustment marks on it so, no need for a reg tester. I'd post this question on Airgun Nation. You'll have advice coming from all over the world from people with huge amounts of knowledge about this.

@@Atoyota25 thank you. I do also shoot the 18gr but the fastest they will go is 830fps. I like to shoot them at around 930fps. I wish it was as easy to adjust as my crown, impact m3, the king or the alpha wolf. My red wolf pushes the 18gr at 980 on low. I will check out that website you suggested. Thanks again.

I like your videos, even I could keep up and follow your instructions. I have the FX Bobcat MK2 the one with the fill port up front, and a Gen 2 Marauder both in .25 cal . No problems yet, I have had them both for about three years and both are tac drivers.. My question is, is their a problem using Harbor freight o-rings or are these o-rings in these FX rifles special. I have a couple of boxes with various size o-rings. I have been trying to find a maintenance / repair video on my FX Bobcat MK and have not found one yet. Should you ever do a bobcat MK2 video let me know.

Ok Tom, I finally got my first air leak in my Fx Bobcat MK2. I got a heck of a run, about 6 yrs of no problems. Those guys told me that o-rings should only last 2/3 years.I must tell you it was your video that inspired me to try and fix my rifle. It was leaking from that hole you showed on your video and it was my regulator. I learned that the Royal and the Bobcat have the same block and regulator. I was going to send my rifle to FX USA so they could replace all of the o-rings on my rifle for $125.00, the shipping about $40.00 each way. Then they told me about 6 weeks to get around to repair it. So, I ordered the o-rings for the regulator from FX USA , I bought 2 of each and some other stuff.That should hold me for a long time. They were very nice and so helpful answering all of my questions. Any way they said I should get my o-rings in about 10 days. So, I went to Harbor Freight and bought a metric kit (Store House 389 o-rings Nitrile rubber) o-rings for $9.00. I was able to match all of the sizes, and installed them on my regulator, air cylinder and a few others. My rifle air cylinder is at 220 bar and I set the regulator at 140 bar. Setting the regulator took about 3 trys, I shot about 50 pellets and refilled the rifle air cylinder to 220 bar, and the regulator is at 140 bar and it is still holding. I will let you know how long they last with these o-rings Lol. Thank you for your video, I now have the knowledge and can rebuild my own rifle thanks to you.

@@Atoyota25 Thanks for the fast reply. Actually, the Bobcat, Royale and Boss all use the same block,or whatever the main part is called. At least that is what I have heard many say at AGN, including Ernest Rowe who made a video about adjusting the regulator on all those rifles... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m59gdLGUndfGYJ8.html Thanks. EDIT: It could be that they are just talking about the reg being the same? If so, my bad. But I really believe that the guts of all these three guns are the same.

Here's a link for drawings and parts list - www.fxairguns.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Royal-Drawing-and-Partlist.pdf I think you need E-1 No, you do not need to remove the bottle to remove the barrel. But, it might make it easier. Make sure your safety is on as well.

@Atoyota25

Those little gauges are know to be inaccurate and a bit on the low side for quality. Make sure the plastic cup around the gauge hasn't come loose or is pushed against the needle. Other than that, I'd need a lot more info in order to help you out. I will tell you this... if it's a repeatable issue, then it's a traceable issue, which means it's a fixable issue. Also, FXUSA is now handling all technical issues on these. That might be your best bet.

What to do if regulator struck inside due to rust?
@Atoyota25
@Atoyota25 5 жыл бұрын
Send it to a professional repair shop. If they screw it up, it's on them. If you screw it up, it's on you. IF I were to try working on something like that, I'd attempt to free it up with a solvent of some kind (think... wd-40). If I got it out, I'd plan on cleaning it THOROUGHLY to get all the solvent removed as well as the rust. You can so use a pin spanner or pair of needle nose to unscrew the brass piece. Then, try to find a bolt with the same thread pattern, screw it in where the brass piece was, then put moderate pressure on it the bolt in order to break the regulator free of the corrosion holding it in place. Again, a penetrating lube of some kind would assist this operation. But, you need to clean it all out afterwards as it has the possibility of exploding under high pressure.

Thanks for your help" I got the breach O-ring from AOA and I think I installed it properly (sits inside the barrel about a quarter inch in the groove) I put the barrel in the way you showed on the regulator vid, to get the barrel on I took off the bottle (simply unscrewed it) after lining up the barrel on the divits & tightening I screwed the bottle back and went to fill with air; the air rushed out the barrel? Couldn't get air to fill and stay... Did I miss a step somewhere?
@Atoyota25
@Atoyota25 6 жыл бұрын
Call AoA. They'll be able to help you out the best. I think they'll advise you to set the rifle to low power, cock the rifle, screw on a bottle with pressure in it, and shoot. That should reset your valve which I believe has slipped to the open position. It needs air to stay closed. I had this happen with my Boss and that's how I fixed it after being advised by AoA. I'm sure you're nervous right now. It'll be ok. Just put it away until tomorrow or, try what I advised (at your own risk). It's MUCH easier to talk about this stuff on Airgun Nation. I'm "Tominco"
