The test ride before and after changing the front sprocket from 16t to 17t. with the % that the stcok speedo is off with stock gear to the 17-45 gear the difference stock "60'= 56.88mph, "84"= 79.63mph, "105"= 99.54mph gain after change at 60mph gained 3.5mph, 86mph gained 6.9mph, 107mph gained 8.2mph. the bike still has the torque to wheelie but now it takes off in first how it should! next video will be taking out the ecu. then i will be sending it out for flash tune!!!! hope you enjoy the video. let me know what you think.

Sweet. Always thought the bike is a bit much down low and too busy on highway.

What you're saying is your countershaft RPM is the same (where the speed sensor is), but the new gearing is causing the wheel RPM on the highway to be quicker due to your changes, bringing your actual speed closer to indicated speed. It's still not correct, but it's less off than stock. If you get it tuned, you'll pick up some horse and torque, and regain the torque you lost at the wheel by your gearing change.

i was wondering did the speed limiter remains at the same value giving us higher real top speed or did the value dropped to match original speed limit

I don't think this bike's top speed is limited by redline (stock gearing is capable of 170 MPH or 272 Km/h). You might have actually made it slower unless you think you can pull that extra 10 MPH with taller gearing. Interesting choice of bike if you're looking for gas mileage though.

Jim Cummings Ideally you should never shift at peak HP if you're looking for maximum performance. Forward thrust is essentially controlled by wheel torque. Any time you upshift, you increase the gearing disadvantage your engine has. The goal is to shift at the point where wheel torque in the current gear starts to drop below what it would be at the same speed in the next gear. This is usually somewhere after peak horsepower. You can often find charts that demonstrate this. For example, on the FZ-09 featured in this video, peak horsepower is at 10,000 RPM while redline is at 11,250. The optimal shift points depend on the gear ratios. When shifting from first to second, it's actually optimal to shift at redline and the optimal shift RPM slowly works its way down to about 10,800 RPM from fifth to sixth gear. On many bikes the best shift points should be somewhere around redline just like this, but it can be evaluated on a bike by bike basis.

I'm way late here, but there's no way in hell that stock gears on fz09 are good for 170 mph, I've had mine at the Rev limiter in 6th gear and first of all it's terrifying, and second your doing right around 145, my bike is flashed and piped and there's absolutely no way 170 is happening with stock gears.

@@wymonwatson1309 Your bike can't have stock gearing then because I can hit that speed in 5th

@something1random23 You make a vid doing 170 on an mt/fz09 and I want to see GPS speed, I promise you your not doing 170, my bike has stock gearing, I've been thinking about gearing it up, but it's already pretty scary doing 150 on a naked bike.

Hi there. Nice video, nice bike! I'm a bit confused though. I thought the Fz sold in The US where non-ABS, and therefore have the speedsensor at the outgoing shaft (front sprocket). I have the european MT whith ABS, and it has no speedsensor, bur utilises the wheelsensors from the ABS....... If your bike uses the speed from the outgoing shaft, it should not read anything different in the speedo after sprocket change!?? How does the taller gearing affect the bikes tendense to power wheelie in 1.? .......2.? We don' t get the yellow here in Denmark. Looks nice!

tubesvrider when you enhance the revolution speed increases. The speedo reads the same but your gears are longer now so the too speed in each gear changes. With going one up in the front I brings the bikes calibration closer to 100% witch also changes the speedo. 1st takes off so smooth now and 2nd rides out longer so wheelies you have a lot more room to work with in your gears.
@tubesvrider

+MCON89 - But I understood that you got a higher reading ( and higher topspeed-reading) in your speedo? And if the speedsensor is located at the outgoing shaft, you shoulden't get any different reading, the actual speed being higher, ofcourse, but rpm vs speed shown in speedo should be unchanged

Don't know what's with yamaha and their speedo. My wr250x was around 7% off stock. Goind up 3 teeth on the rear got it to around 11% off. So i can see why going for top speed kinda corrects the stock speedo. I dont care about the speed but it also reads wrong the distance traveled. Really informative video as i am out looking for an mt09 .

Every OEM except Harley Davidson purposely programs the speedo to read about 5-8% fast. Reason? Litigation issues with potential speed related accidents. You'll have to ECU flash to correct it, or get a down-stream calibrator plugged into the speed sensor wires.

Why on earth would you want to have longer gearing on this bike? The gearing is far too tall to begin with in my opinion. This bike would be so much more fun with a 14t front.
