NxDE is my favorite (G)I-dle song. Art and music come together. There was big pressure for the follow-up to "Tomboy" and the "I never die" album.

The last line of "Nxde" translated literally from Korean is "The pervert is you", which is so much more impactful compared to the weak translation on the MV

I don't think I'll ever get over the fact that they included a "Boo" in the fanchant. I don't know how many groups would intentionally have their fans boo them. lol Also worth noting, Change is entirely in English except for Soyeon's rap verse. I think for similar reasons to Yuqi's solos being in English, this is Minnie trying to reach out to a broader audience. The production credits, in case you were interested: Soyeon - Nxde/Love Yuqi - Reset/Dark (X-File) Minnie - Change/Sculpture Interestingly, Minnie apparently wrote Sculpture quite a while before this (I want to say I Trust era?) but it wasn't chosen until this album, though it certainly seems to fit thematically better here. I do agree with your assertion that they're trying to address a lot of issues here, especially in Nxde, of course, but throughout the entire album, in terms of themselves as both women and as idols. This is where I'll beseech you again to watch their MMA 2022 performance: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mZOdq5mTs9G-XZc.html and if you want to have your perception of the group changed once again, the behind the scenes of the Nxde recording: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJ6gZrWDmJ3SkX0.html

The Boo in the fan chant is such a neat meta thing to do, and it doesn’t even shock me after listening to this album 😂 Thanks for the context on the production credits! I think the only ones I didn’t guess were dark and sculpture which I just figured was Soyeon, but now that you mention it I can hear Yuqi and Minnie’s styles on those tracks. The MMA performance is coming soon! And thanks for the other suggestion too! 🫶

Soyeon's motto for I LOVE album was, "I might get hated for what I really am than loved for what I am not". She just shook the whole k-pop industry with Nxde. The company, thought were against with the song, later had to listen to her because of their previous success from Tomboy. She also said that she decided to have the title as Nxde rather than NUDE because when people search *G-IDLE Nxde* nothing erotic comes out in front of them. That's how genius thought Soyeon put in her creation. Deeper meaning wise my all time favourite k-pop songs are Nxde and OH MY GOD Nxde was the MV where first time Shuhua showed her actual singing potential. It was the first time in her life that she dyed her hair completely. Before she just had highlights. Soyeon and other members had a very serious conversation with Shushu. At first she wanted them to give her some time as she doesn't want to erase her natural beauty. But for the theme of the album she decided to do it. Minnie cried very much knowing that Shushu agreed to dye her hair. It was totally shocking for Nevies to see Shushu completely blonde. In IDOL THEATRE G-IDLE episode Shuhua said that even the president can't make her change any decision until she herself agrees to do so. Since Nxde she had dyed her hair a few more times now. Among all the members, Shuhua is the members who posts photos without makeup or *ugly* pictures according to k-netizens, wears same dress in vlive and gives haters suitable replies. She didn't use to wear too revealing clothes but since Nxde she's become more confident. Once she wore a same shirt in a vlive that she had worn before in another vlive. A hater pointed that out. Shuhua said and I quote...(Shouting)... "yes I wore the same shirt. I wore the same shirt. I wore the same shirt. Do you have any problem with that?"(Smirk) And once a hater said, "there's something on your face, ugliness". In reply she said that person to leave the live and said that those kinda people have no face(to judge about their appearance) Research showed over 70% of *actual* Nevies are women, same goes for me😎✌️🤘 Reaction recommendations for this era: G-Idle tipsy live Heechul and G-Idle drunk MMA 2022 performance

Yes, I think this is more about the groups relationship with the industry and fans than it is about anything romantic. I think that Dark (X-file) gets the theme started and refers to the aftermath of unfairly losing Soojin.

Yeah I think that this album was about all the rage and hurt that came from the negative experiences in the industry and then finding acceptance and self love as a way to continue and thrive in the same industry that didn’t change at all. It’s such a cool and honest album 🥹

I dont think Dark is about the cheating. I think Dark si the opposite of Nxde. The hidding yourself after acts that you consider shameful. Where Nxde was all about showing yourself proudly to the world, Dark si about hiding yourself in shame, probably related to sexy times in that locked room they mention. And smoking that puff, everything they are doing being just a show anyway, fake, as they sing. The whole album really has a mirroring structure. Nxde and dark not only are about opposite attitudes and believes, they even end the same way, with an a cappela Yuqi saying Dark and an a cappela Soyeon saying Nxde, closing up the whole thing circularly. Even musically you can argue that Dark has a certain dark carnival sound to it opposed to the theatrics of the citation of the Habanera in Nxde, with a sniff of cabaret. But then Love is also the opposite of Sculpture. Not just in the fact that one is about loving yourself above all and not wanting to endure the pains of somebody else being a jerk to you while Sculpture is about loving somebody else so much and needing their love even if it means loosing yourself and suffering, but even by the repetitiveness of the chorus with one word love, and sculpture. And then of course there is Change and Reset. One being about missing an idilic past where you had no worries but aknoledging that nothing lasts forever, not even the present pain, and that there might be a fine future ahead of you, opoosed to a song about hoping for a future after a break up but having to aknowlegde that the past still has you, one about wanting to be honest about your feelings but being unable to opposed to one wanting not to be honest about your feelings and yet having to at the end. One wishing for an idilic past, one wisishing for a very bad one. Even musically you got a song that as a very monotone almost tired and disengaged sound and a very pasionate, almost desperate cry. The reason I think the Nxde interview was interesting was because while they are talking about revealing their true selves (they even speak in their native languages oppososed to Korean... unless they are), the whole video is shot as if they were to strip right there. It would be very easy to let yourself get distracted by the appeareances. It was, I think, a perfect way to express the false expectations that they were countering in the mv itself. If you thought when you watched the promo that you were coming to an R rated show, you have a problem. Why do you think that just by hearing the word nude? Think outside the box and you might enjoy it. And indeed, believe it or not, some koreans did complain that Idle was going to get too nasty for an idol group when thay saw that promo... until the mv played them like a fiddle. It is not a secret that the official subtitling by Cube is... not very good. Bilingual Koreans have always been very vocal about how most of the beautiful immaginery, witt and wordplay of Soyeon´s lyrics gets mostly lost in a kind of mismash of nonsensical literalism. But that just comes with the territory. Here I think they do her particularly a disservice by translating their more agressive and angry "The pervert here is you!" with the more polite "You have a dirty mind". There are several mistranlsation here and there that hurt the lyrics and take away a bit of the meaning, like always, but that one is a bit like defanging the song a bit too much. The message gets trough, but ou loose THE MESSAGE. One is just a simple statement, the other is POINTING their finger at you. SUbtle difference.. but a big one, I think. Soyeon said in several promotional interviews that one of the reasons she had titled that song the way she did is beacuse Idle also means children in korean (thus all that Peter Pan and Neverland stuff) and that if you searched on the web the words Idle and Nude in Korea, you would get... if not straight pedofilia, then something a bit too cloose to it for comfort. But this way, if you put Idle and Nude on your search engine, the first couple of pages would be about this comeback and song instead. I am not korean, so I dont know how effective that would be, but apparently, according to some korean agencies, it did actually work pretty well and it did at least force those scums to work harder. And, as she said, she wasnt trying to solve the problem (she is not THAT arrogant) as much as commenting on it and playing the actual perverts. Wheter that served any actual real purpose or not, even just from the the lets put our money where the mouth is perspective, she has a very special brain. The main story seems to be about the different stages a woman that is full of shame about who she is goes, desperate for love going trough shame, self sacrifice, the uncertainties of the future post break up and perhaps other relationships, to the end game of self love and pride in showing herself and pointing fingers to the perverts that tought she was just a sculpture. And it does tell that story from 6 to 1 perectly. But the mvs are also filled with references to haters and the eviso of the press, expectations and fears of being forgotten, references to them being succesful musician, people thinking that fame and fan love should be enough... So I agree, like any great work of art, it usually can be interprted from several perspectives, and the critique of the over sexualization of women, the giving yourself to fans even if you hurts, not being able to show that you are okay to a world that needs you to smile constantly, having to hide possible scandals... I think it is beyond valid to interpret the album in terms of both a human individual facing states of self doubt and self love in a personal relationship AND in terms of social AND insdustrial aspects. In fact, Nxde, taken by itself, probably would be interpreted by most as a middle finger to that over sexualization of women that plagues ANY entertainmen industry. "I would rather be hated for being myself than loved for being somebody I am not." was the main motto of the album when she presented it to Cube. Marilyn Monroe was her main inspiration this time. A woman that, according to Soyeon herself, was seen as a dumb blonde sex pot but that was actually a very inteligent and powerfull woman, interested in philosofy and poetry. She wanted to show the true Marilyn beneath the sexualized perception and used that as an inspiration for the whole song. Interestingly, t there are several other strong personalities that seem to be referenced in the MV, mostly trough Soyeons dresses, like Madonna (the pointed bra) and Lady gaga during her rap. Many people think that the animated character is Soojin. If you decide to agree with that or not... thats up to you.

So while I don't think I caught on to the cyclical nature of the album or Dark / Nxde I totally can see that take and on top of that I wonder if it in turn is also a commentary on how these kinds of feelings aren't permanent one way or the other, you can travel along that cycle multiple times throughout your life. Yeah I actually didn't catch on to their language until I was almost all the way through editing the video and it was like a little lightbulb went off in my brain, I liked it a lot. Sadly I bet it wasn't a small number of people who fed into that way of thinking either, but it was a masterstroke to turn it around like that. I think the main story juxtaposed with the underlying meaning about oversexualization, parasocial relationships and the industry as a whole is a really interesting dynamic too after sitting with it. I could see someone likening the woman in the story to idols in general (or female idols in specific because of how much of a good job it does poking at the treatment of women in society) and the crappy partner to be a stand in for the industry as a whole (including fans) or the company in specific and how they treat idols. Again thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with me, I found them super interesting!

'I never die' was probably the highest challenge for I-Dle (and particulary Soyeon), and after that success, they had to confirm that even with all the sh*t they had to go through, they will continue to grow and have more and more nevies. 'I Love' had really good teasers, like fake interview and the awesome x-files video that hyped us so much. And when finally the album came out, i was shocked. Everything is this album is fantastic : songs, concept, videos style. And i loved the fact they made a story for the album with a mix of songs of 3 of them. Really nice.

She chose a song whitch called 'Rain' , and talked with Yuqi that she want to try writing lyrics, then Yuqi gladly accept. And Soyeon rewriting the lyric for Reset more like a group song for Yuqi . oh my gosh already on nxde era??? my absolute favorite and must watch nxde era pieces of content are: the most iconic and interesting thing, if you watch anything from this list, watch this: “Nxde recording behind” basically we get to see them record the title track. so awesome to see soyeon at work. “Up to Gidle” it was a multiple episode series for the fans as a prelude for queencard era. the first episodes are alright but holy shit it just gets funnier as it goes on. “Gidle tipsy live” it’s so fucking funny. after winning an award they all get drunk and sing nxde. “shuhua who even bleached her hair wants one thing” a recorded special content video, so goddamn funny. the title is in korean but it should come up if you search what’s in quotes😼 last but not least kim hee-chuls variety show. the episode is named in korean but you just have to search “heechul gidle drunk” oh my god it’s so funny i wanted to jump out of my chair. they all get drunk and spicy. it’s a two parter episode, and it’s an absolute must watch. all of these are amazing and so goddamn good

I LOVE is a concept album about love. The most spread theory about it is it starts with DARK, that talks about a totally toxic relationship where our protagonist doesn't feel an inch of love. It continues to Sculpture, still a toxic relationship, but our protagonist at least feels some kind of love from her partner at the expense of losing her personality. The rest of the album evolves our protagonist sense of love, ending with Nxde, realising that the first and most important type of love is self-love, as you can't love anyone else if you don't love yourself first. It is my favourite album alongside I BURN. Gotta love concept albums.

I keep hearing that, and Cube itself mentioned it, but... I Know Bizets Carmen in and out, have even seen productions of it, and I don't remember that. Seems more like a citation than an interpolation (that doesn't sound like a sample, but I might be totally wrong), but they do certainly want to aknoledge it's Habanera. They even used it at Melon awards. I will pay more attention to it next time I listen to the opera.

People that aren’t “into” K-pop including classical musicians have said about the reference aswell cause that is what it will invoke even with a layman. @@Beggerz You are taking this personally. You shouldn't. I wasn't correcting you. My intention was not to insult you, bellitle you or show higher knoledge than you. I think my comment was written in the most innocent and well meaning tone I know how to. If I somehow gave the impression that I was trying to impress you, ridicule you or judge you, I sincerely apologize. That said I do object to the implication that using certain correct terms and the smallest tiny bit of knowledge should be considered as a personal attack. I do not assume that you are dumb for not using them, I understand that nobody needs to know everything (and I am absolutely certain that there is plenty of stuff that you do know that I ignore) and that we are here to have fun, not to show off what we do know. But I would appreciate if to me not thinking you are dumb for not using certain terms, you would answer not automatically think I was trying to be an arse for using them. It is just a bit tiring that people seem to jump to conclusion so easily, not even giving others the benefit if the doubt. I was just thinking I was having a pleasant conversation with a fellow fan, voicing my opinions in what I thought was the friendliest of manners, so imagine my surprise when I read your answer, which saddened me deeply. English is also not my native tongue, so if I a come off too mannered or too cold, consider this. I again apologize if I expressed myself wrongly. MIne were the friendliest and more respectful intentions, whatever the execution... But also it would be great if people stoped getting offended this easily and gave strangers a bit more if rope and bit more of a benefit. It is getting scary just to say hello lately. PD. I all meant with Cube is that despite Cube saying it was a sample, I didn't really recognized it as such. Nothing more. I don't understand how you would think I was downplaying Soyeon. Nothing in my text implied that I have anything against interpolation or sampling. Seems you did assume too much. PD. I also never said it was a rearrangement. I said it probably was interpolation or citation. Not the same thing. No, I am not being an arse, but I rather you gave me credit for being right about things I actually say. Pd3 I also disagree with the notion that you have to dumb down things for people. Interpolation vs Sample are not specialized terms, they are quite common words. You don't need a degree to know them. And falsify reality doesn't help. I respect that you prefer to use a shortcut for clarity, but do not downplay those who prefer to walk the walk as the the inferior ones. We are not. Things are called what they are called. If you want to simplify for clarity, good for you. I mean it. But don't give those who call a spear a spear shit. That's not fair. I took time and effort to learn stuff. And I am going to use it. And if certain people think that just using my knoledge, as small as it is, is somewhat of a personal attack, the I am sorry, but I have to respectfully suggest that that is not my problem. I also talk a lot. But I am sure everybody noticed that already.

You're right, reset indeed is a Yuqi product and it was written as the title for Miyeon's solo album at first

Definetely their most personal album. While "I never die" was anger and sadness, "I love" was (G)I-dle laying it all out. My favourite is "Sculpture", i love how funky the song is and the lyrics are really, really good. Personally i think this is a song about the relationship between idols and their fans.

Yeah that was the vibe I was getting too, which is such a bold move for an idol to make because it could really backfire if the fans took it too personally, gotta give them major respect for that! 🤟

I Love album was meant to be played in backward Dark (X-File) to NXDE because the meaning the album was being free from the toxic relationship to loving yourself

by the way there is a band Xdinary Heroes (under jyp) and i think it would be really cool to see you react to a little bit of a different side of kpop! They have some amazing songs and are a relatively new group! I am also thinking about making an ultimate guide to them :)

Oooh nice! I've heard Happy Death Day and the cover of Hellivator by them before I started the channel I'm a pretty big Stay so the cover was how I found them, I wasn't a huge fan of Happy Death Day, but I really liked how experimental it was and love that that post punk kind of sound lives in Kpop, but the cover of Hellivator? that SLAPS!

@@SylverReacts Yeah honestly i am not a huge fan of of happy death day either. Their discography has a really nice range (amazing ballads and even great pop songs and of course rock) so i feel like there is always something to like about them. Plus they are very kind people and they are super funny. If you decide to react to them in the future ill send you my guide :) Have a great dayyyy

I would agree that this album is meant to work on multiple levels, though I'd say that about most of their music since " oh my god". I don't know if anyone said that on one version of the album they actually numbered the tracks in reverse. "Sculpture" is the hardest for me to listen to because it hits so perfectly what I've been through, but I equally love them for it.

Yeah I’d say that Soyeon as a producer has a real knack for double meanings, sometimes I miss them because I think some of it is lost in translation, but that’s super cool about the reverse order on some versions! Yeah sometimes there’s music or art that resonates so strongly with our own experiences that it just can be really hard to listen to without bringing up those feelings too. But I also think that makes it more powerful as a piece of art too ☺️

Alright I wanna make my comments about nxde before I forget even though only halfway through the video haha. Nxde literally got me into kpop, before that I had only heard a couple of songs but wasn't that interested. Nxde was just something completely different, the art, the message, the music, I had to know more about this group. I agree that the pacing at the start of the song feels a little bit hectic. The kiss that Minnie blew at the end of the live performance looked like it went straight to your heart😂. Not sure if your a sing along in the car kinda guy, but I've noticed over time, idles songs are really fun to sing along to. Just the emphasis on words and the melodies, something about it makes it really fun to sing to lol. Anyway I'm sure I'll have more comments before the end of the video so I'll leave it here for now lol
