Күн бұрын

Filmed specially for Cobra Convergence IV - This restoration of a vintage Kenner G.I.Joe Dr. Minderbender was great fun to do. Lots of areas that needed fixing including a broken pelvis, missing tubing, cracked elbow joints, paint touch-ups, and creating a new cape with Cobra logo on the back.
Find out more about the events going on for Cobra Convergence this month here: hcc788.com/
And download the cape pattern from toypolloi.com

The 'Model Color' paint is made by Vallejo. It's superb model paint. If you need really weird colours, look for the paints made by Citadel, ostensibly for painting 'Dungeons & Dragons' figures. There's a mind-blowing range of colours and tones.

My new favorite drinking game; everytime you say "Milliput", DRINK. I think you enjoy saying it as much as we/I do hearing it😉. You could easily say epoxy (which has the same number of syllables) and I know you're not a spokesman for them (should be). I love this fix. I thought it was great the first time I saw it and I think your technique has gotten even better. Capes. Who knew you'd be making so many capes?

sticker logos on the capes are ok. Screen printing them (if you know how and you have the supplies) is thee best way to complete that task. A close second would be to cut a friskit film and paint in the stencil with a silver paint. Regardless, another great video!
@toypolloi
@toypolloi 5 жыл бұрын
Screen prints would look great, and would be how it was done originally. But most people don't have that sort of equipment, so this is an easy way for anyone to make them. I think the logo it to complicated and small to cut a good stencil for, but give it a go.

If you go to tighten up that weak knee, you could try a light layer of clear nail polish on the inside of the joint, and on the lower leg's knee post. It'll tight it up, and stay decently firm for a while.

Another way you can put decal on the cape is cut the red part out the shape of the cobra and put it on the part of the cape you want the decal and use a silver paint pen to paint the decal, then you take the decal paper guide off and there it is.

Really glad you're getting into GI Joe, I think if you'd been bitten by the bug when you were younger you would have loved them! Larry Hama packed the Joe story with memorable characters and great scenarios. Next to Star Wars I think it was my biggest 80's toy love. Collecting the comics was a pain though - weekly lasted a year, monthly a year, we had a few 'specials', and a couple of annuals, and it spent the rest of its time as a backup strip in Transformers. But like Transformers, we also got some UK generated stories that were as good as the US ones! I think what undid it in the UK was the changing name. It started out as 'Action Force' (UK toyline with some licenced US toys slotted in), then became 'Action Force: International Heroes' (US toyline rebranded for the UK), then became GI Joe: The Action Force, then just GI Joe.

If you have a good one, make a mold using thermal plastic. Put the epoxy in the mold, shove in the broken one. Once it sets, clean up and paint.

@stevewthebactatank9640 5 жыл бұрын
Nice job Dave. heres a couple of tips I use from time to time The brand of paint you used is Vallejo, an excellent acrylic brand. You can mix in a satin acrylic lacquer to the paint, this makes it more permanent and hard wearing. Think I commented on a older video about adding the green stuff epoxy to milliput, this keeps the hardness and the ability to form sharp lines of milliput with the added flex given by greenstuff. mix both parts separate as per normal, then combine them. You can mix makeup powders/ weathering powders into the baking soda to change the colour which is useful when filling gaps that cant be painted. You can also on some plastics make a permanent plastic weld by dropping a tiny amount of cellulose thinners into the crack. Keep up the good work!!!

@Toy Polloi, another way you can apply the emblem in fabric cheaply, is silkscreen. make the pattern with a piece of clear tape, and using a putty knife take some latex paint and scrape the paint over the tape pattern on the fabric.

A fantastic video! I have really gotten into the '80s 3.75" GI JOES in recent years, so this was very pleasing to see! The Scarlett figure (Quarrel in the UK) often end up with broken pelvises, and there's no really good way to fix that, as there's just not enough room in the pelvis construction area to drill a hole. I tried, but it just broke further. I'd love to see you figure out how to repair the pelvis of a Scarlett for one of your videos.
