元々宮中にて『金光明最勝王経(こんこうみょうさいしょうおうぎょう)』という経典を講讃し、国家安穏等を祈る行事でした。高野山では承安3年(1177年)に始まりました。最初はやはり『金光明最勝王経』を講讃していましたが、文永11年(1274年)以降、問答論議に変更され江戸末期までは5日間10座の講席を勤仕されました。
現在では2日4座に成りましたが、現在でも厳重に執行されています。
お大師さま真筆と伝えられる「金光明最勝王経」と呼ばれる経典を講讃し、鎮護国家を祈る法会で、「左右学頭(がくとう)」はこの御最勝講を無事に勤めると「上綱」と呼ばれる階位に登ります。古くには宮中より勅使が参列されたりと、非常に厳重な法会です。
この法会にもやはり「勧学会」の新衆が出仕し、問答を致します。左右学頭は金剛峯寺より多くの方々に見送りを受け山王院へ出仕し、問答の最後に審判を下す「御領解」をなして、法会を締めくくります。また、法印御房の御出仕もあり、やはり「御領解」を頂戴してすべて滞りなく終了します。

At first, he was still praising "Golden Light Sutra", but after Bunei 11 (1274), it was changed to a question-and-answer discussion, and until the end of Edo, he served 10 seats for 5 days. I did.

At a puja that praises the scripture called "Golden Light Sutra", which is said to be the master's autograph, and prays for the guardian state, "Gakuto" said that he would safely serve this Saisuko. Climb to a rank called "Kamitsuna". In the olden days, the messenger attended from Miyanaka, and it is a very strict puja.
A new member of the "Kyoukai" will also serve in this puja and ask questions. The left and right scholarchs will be sent off by more people than Kongobuji Temple and will serve at Sannoin, and at the end of the question and answer, they will make a "judgment" to conclude the puja. In addition, there is also a service of Houin Obo, and after all, we will receive a "commitment" and all will be completed without delay.
