Thank you most kindly, Sir. This was the first time using anything other than a clay bar and I'm very impressed. You're right about the speed, claying always took ages before. Must be a real boost for professionals like you 👍

I used mine as others have said. Wash it with a sponge or microfiber type wash mitt and soap, rinse, fresh bucket of soap and repeat process but use the clay mitt and rinse, perfect, worked as well as the clay bar but quicker and more convenient

Gonna grab one aswell as the rest of the range as tbh Im sick of boutique brands and sales confusion, these guys are direct to the point, their compounds cut like mad and do the job, their scratch remover paste is the best on my shelf for deep scratches.

Just discovered your channel from a comment you left on another UK detailers channel (nice one!) I bought this mitt and the G3 spray from Halfords to decon my XK when I bought the car last year. At that time I had never clay barred before and chose that route because I felt if was 'less intimidating' than traditional clay and my XK paint would be safer. I have to say I was not disappointed. This mitt is brilliant and I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone especially newbies who have never clayed before. The only two things you need to remember (like all claying) is keep it nice and wet and DO NOT press hard, a very light gentle touch is all you need to lift the contamination and fallout and to avoid marking your paint. I'm now gonna subscribe Specky, great video mate 👍

Purchased one after seeing this video and have used it on my car which gets washed, foamed and either waxed or polished and it worked great. Used it on a friends daily driver that hasn't been washed in years and even he couldn't believe the difference when i asked him to run his hand over the mitted then non-mitted area of his car. It beats a piece of clay for me on price, speed and performance etc etc.

I use mine with snow foam. Snow foam the car, rinse. Wash the car. Re snowfoam and use the clay mitt on the snowfoam. Tons of lubricity and if you fill up a bucket with a grit guard you’re more then safe. Cheers.

Another well made and informative video Specky. My preference is for the sponge type like the Nanoskin auto scrub again better ergonomics than clay. I find I tend to get fingertip pressure with the mitts. Both the mitt and the sponge are easily rinsed if dropped unlike the clay. Keep the videos coming 👍

Cheers Martin! I saw you like Nanoskin, not something I've tried yet but I'm sure it's not that different. I like that I can work a larger area than with a clay bar. It's not a total replacement for a clay bar but I'll use them side by side. 👍

Using the mitt on my 03 Grand Marquis Park Lane. I have a medium grade mitt, then machine buff w/a fine cut cleaner and then hand polish. I use medium grade mitt because car is 20 yrs old, never been clayed and out in the 4 season elements. First time users? Get regular/fine grade mitt.

I tried the one from CYC. I dont like the lack of "feeling" of these mitts if that makes sense. It's like you lose some of the element of control, and I fear that you could cause more damage if you pick up a stray item on the panel as you dont see as much under your hand. When you have a small piece of clay you have much more control and the paint becomes visible again (at the back of the wipe) much sooner as it has a smaller footprint. I can see these catching on though as you cover panels much much quicker and a lot of people are always in a rush nowadays.

Another great video Mr McSporran, I started detailing way back in the 90's but left it to earn more money. I have just rejoined the party and between yourself and another detailer, you both are great in your honest reviews and opinions for most weekend/personal detailers. I was taught with AG products and love them but with a renault master van a clay bar kit takes bloody ages!!!!! I will definitely be adding this to my collection of rapidly growing items. Could I use AG rapid detailer spray with this as this is what I use??? Keep up the good work mate.

I have one of these, I like the longevity factor, ideal if your just claying your own car occasionally.i find a clay bar pulls out more contaminants though. Or perhaps that's just because you can actually see them against they white clay. I machine polished and ceramic coated a family members range rover last week and went with a bilt hamber clay, most of the car was ok but loads got pulled of the roof, probably because it's so high to reach nobody bothered to wash it properly

I'm glad you're happy with it. As long as you keep cleaning it regularly and store it properly it should last a long time. If you're only using it on one car then you'll probably get a couple of years out of it as you shouldn't really be using clay on your paint more than a few times a year.

I don't think there's a single clay bar/mitt/pad that won't marr your paint in some way. I always recommend polishing after claying to correct any damage made. An all-in-one polish is usually good enough.

There's no such thing as a daft question if you don't know the answer. It depends on what you're using as a clay lube, but generally, I'd rinse the car off just in case there are any loose contaminants hanging about.

@SpeckyMcSporran
@SpeckyMcSporran 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I guess you could but I don't think it's the best idea. I'd worry that there would still be dirt on the foam and contaminants on the paint that the shampoo can't remove. You'd also need to make sure you have a sufficiently lubricated shampoo. Personally I'd wash, chemically decontaminate and then clay. I guess it's worth a try if you regularly clean your car.

Could I use Sonax bsd as a lube with the clay mitt?
@SpeckyMcSporran
@SpeckyMcSporran 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure about that, clay lubes need to be slick and BSD is not super slick and it can be sticky to use. There's no harm in trying it but it may not work very well. You could try diluting it 50% with water which would make it thinner but it won't last as long as full strength.

Have the same Mitt myself. Probably used it about 50 times now and it still keeps going and it is still working. Just wash the whole car and then go round with the Mitt using the same bucket with the shampoo in which i used for cleaning the car. When the paint is contaminated going over with the Mitt it feels rough like when you are sanding something. When the sanding sensation stops and it goes over smoothly that is when the Mitt has picked up all of the contaminants. Fast and much easier than a clay bar.

So, let me get this right, if you drop a clay bar you should throw it away (obviously), but if your clay bar is dirty through proper use, you should fold the claybar with 'contaminents' including grit, fold it over several times and use again, with the expectation that the contaminants and grit will magical disappear...! Doh, no! Not sure why the industry promotes this method. Use it, throw it away....6/7 cars, Nah!!!
@SpeckyMcSporran
@SpeckyMcSporran 5 жыл бұрын
No, the contaminants don't magically disappear, they are held within the clay when you fold it. If you fold it enough times then they will eventually appear at the surface so you can only fold it a limited number of times. The grit and dirt on the ground is much more damaging than the contaminants you would pick up from the paint, assuming you've already sufficiently washed and chemically decontaminated it first. If detailers we're that concerned then they'd all be shouting at us not to fold clay bars. I hope this puts your mind at ease.

I had one of those mitts, and my only complaint was storing it. If you put it back in its bag when it's wet, once it dries, good luck getting it back out. However, bought another from another brand (not that the G3 one was bad, it was quite excellent honestly for medium to fine contamination) but this other brand delivers and G3 doesn't xD
@ScratchyBaws
@ScratchyBaws Жыл бұрын
Yes! because it takes up so much space to store yet it's brilliant on any contamination whether it's low/medium/high. The mitts great and easy to store after drying. Your comment is bloody stupid because you moan about a tiny flat item to store then you say it's quite excellent. Also, what idiot puts a wet clay mitt back into a plastic bag without first waiting for it to dry?.
