The final rise and downfall of Gabbie Hanna, Jessi Smiles, Trisha Paytas, is disgusting, and the lies turned to an obsession that will never stop. Along with Gabbie Hanna continuing to bully and the 5 new videos about Jessi Smiles and Trisha Paytas, we need to discuss the real reason Gabbie Hanna has carried this on so long, and the lies, deflection, apology, hypocrisy, power dynamics, and manipulation that no one else is really talking about. Are we supposed to feel bad for Gabbie Hanna? Jessi Smiles? Trisha Paytas? Something doesn't sit right…

I'm curious about the viewers/stans/cult-like followers who defend people like James, Gabbie, David, Trisha, etc. that have long records of issues with lots of proof to back it up yet ignore and twist everything. I keep thinking about people who come forward as "former stans" and how they have been used for money and ego. You can even take it to a larger scale with mainstream celebs and politicians. I'm really struggling to wrap my head around people who voted for the most recent former President again and how they defend his heinous record, I truly can't understand it because I just keep thinking about all the people that's are being targeted, hurt, disregarded, and all the many contradictions they make (favorite is "pro-life" when it's reproductive health" aka anti-pro-choice yet with an actual pandemic that has a vaccine they are now saying "pro-choice" for doing what they want such as vaccines no matter what the government says which is clearly anti-"pro-life" because the virus is killing people especially those who are unvaccinated). Seriously whatever scale the approach or anything you make analyzing something I'm down to watch and always walk away learning something and thinking about something.

I don’t think Gabbie had any intention of ever “logging off.” Her “series” was the equivalent of when a little kid says they are running away from home and walks to the end of the driveway in full view of everyone, and stands there yelling “I’m really going!” She wanted everyone to cry and grovel and apologise and beg for her to come back. Unfortunately for her, her series only succeeded in making her overall look worse than she already did, and now she’s stuck insisting she “doesn’t care” while constantly editing and reintroducing her supposed “truth” until she finally stumbles onto the golden combination of lies that she hopes will win everyone over once and for all because she refuses to just fucking admit she told a lie. If she’s not sorry, fine, but she could at least own it and move on instead of trying desperately to rewrite history to convince everyone she’s some kind of wronged saint.

I only know of this monstrosity of a person because, when I did a rabbit hole binge of writers-reacting-badly-to-reviews videos, I found Rachel Oates in my recommend bar. I liked her presence, her flow was good, and she clearly won over 'Miley Cyrus'. Let's see what this is about." My life has never been the same. Add in a chance watch on a Cr**psh*w Art video and my ears have yet to recover. At least, through those horrors, I found Swoop, EmilyArtful, FatSajak, and HelloLeesh, along with Rachel Oates. I am someone who's bottled up trauma because I feel like people think I am being overdramatic, so when people like Gabbie say things about manipulating others with sob stories, it just tells people like me that our brains are correct in processing our trauma by NOT processing it to protect others. everything that comes out of Gabbie's mouth is pretty disgusting and she is everything that a mental health advocate should NOT be.
@lunacouer
@lunacouer 2 жыл бұрын
I hope it helps to know that's she's an outlier. She accused Jessi of manipulation because that's how she uses her "sob stories". She wants attention, she's seen how other people get sympathy when they discuss their pain, so she uses it to get that attention. But she has zero awareness that's not why people share their pain. She doesn't understand that it's for healing, processing and connection, not for the reaction. So she thinks that anyone who shares trauma are doing it to manipulate people, because that's what _she_ does. That is *not* how most people view other people's pain. I hope you can get the help you need to process your trauma. It's exhausting to carry around. And I say that as someone who's carrying shit too and need to process it, lol.

Yep, I had a friend like this. Nothing was ever their fault, everyone hated them and mistreated them, and was frequently reminded that I was their only friend (even though this wasn’t true at all, it was just a manipulation technique.) They frequently talked shit about me and their other friends behind their back or would be straight up mean. Any time I stood up for myself or disagreed with them, I was an enemy and would be accused of being “dramatic” or given the silent treatment. Meanwhile, they would write PARAGRAPHS of dramatic vent posts on FB and name people in the vent posts which caused actual drama. And if I reached out to them to comfort them, I was yelled at “for not caring enough” because I didn’t reach out before the vent posts (I did, they ignored me.) This went on for 5 years and clearly the friendship didn’t matter to them because a Twitter interaction that lasted 5 minutes ended our friendship. And I was so grateful it ended. It was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I no longer had to walk on eggshells and agree with everything they said so that I didn’t anger them.

Just a note on the toxic relationship portion: a lot of people hear "relationship" and think romantic partner. The example given is obviously a "friendship" and I can say for certain, having had a toxic friend who isolated me from other friends: it's not just romantic partners. You never hear this disorder, no one does research and dumps stigma on other disorders hindering people’s progress and/ or seeking therapy. Examples of things she’d do: -leave a collection of designer shoes under her desk so she could change into them when she left the office, making sure to let everyone know she was going to some lavish party -making a huge deal of letting everyone know that she was Canadian, not American, completely unprovoked and literally nobody cared -when she found out a colleague got engaged she brought her a HUGE bouquet of flowers and made a massive deal of congratulating her and letting anyone entering the office that the flowers were from her, for Mona who got engaged -crying when she found out about a colleague getting engaged, married or having a child because she really wanted this for herself but she hadn’t found “the one” yet -making a huge deal of her friendship with her (gay) coworker who was also an awful person, basically making them the mean girls in the office Ugh… I don’t miss her.

Gabbie has admitted to purposely lying or omitting certain things when she's in therapy to avoid being diagnosed. So, there's no doubt that her therapist has no idea how deep her issues go because she can never just be honest about anything. That in and of itself shows she's definitely got some personality disorder going on to act like that.

I’m sure her “narcissistic abusers” label she loves to use on other people is something she heard her therapist say as a product of her manipulating and twisting the narrative of her issues with these people. If she was honest I don’t think her therapist would’ve convinced her. Or maybe she diagnosed them with info from the internet since everyone uses the term like is nothing nowadays.

I don't think Gabbie realizes the harm she's causing people, and I don't even just mean Jessie and other people she talks about. As someone still coming to terms with my own trauma and struggling with allowing myself to believe it's happened, hearing her disgusting comments about Jessie and her blatant sympathy for Jessie's abuser (and allegedly saying she believes his story) has sent be into many breakdowns. It took me years to even realize what happened to me, and seeing her apologist behavior has made it a million times harder to speak up, because even before this she apologized to Jessie then called her derogatory things, talked to her abuser and tried to discredit her story while they were friends.

GH is the type of person to trigger someone who is freshly healing from trauma. Best to avoid this mess. Support Jessi, ofc, but you don't have to dive into GH's brand of abuse. It's even hard for me to listen to without saying something. I do hope you have a good therapist and aren't going through it alone. When I was working through my own trauma in my thirties, I stepped back and saw it as work as I came to terms with the rage I felt. My motto at the time was 'the only way through is forward, one step at a time'. Anger is your friend, fuck people like GH, and find a good counselor if you don't already have one. You have absolutely not one damn thing to be ashamed of. Shame is not yours, toss that shit at the feet of the person who hurt you.

I kinda feel like that GH does actually know what she's causing. Especially since she has said that she reignites fights or drama she had in the past so she can make money out of it. It feels "chaotic" that she hasn't been given an apology but she's always giving them out?? Apologies aren't meant to be leverage over other people you think have wronged you. She wouldn't feel like that apology ratio was unfair if she genuinely felt sorry for the things she's apologized for. An apology to her is not a recognition of remorse, it is a tool to gain control or manipulate a situation.

I would also support my friend because they were my friend and because by default I believe survivors, even if years down the line I ended up absolutely hating that person for some reason I would still not weaponize the fact that I supported them the way she does. It IS possible to show some traits and not all of them to answer your question. Some people are theatrical and overdramatic but do not want to be the center of attention if that makes sense. It's also often grouped with Borderline Personality Disorder.

I feel like she doesn't get, you are not OWED as many apologies as you give, you cant be like "I give EVERYONE apologies but they never give ME one", it's not a gift exchange if you are apologizing you are doing that because you did something that required you to apologize....that doesn't make you a good person. It doesn't inherently make you a bad person, but if you are CONSTANTLY needing to apologize for your actions that's an issue, apologizing cant be what you use as proof of you being a good person, really good people don't have THAT much to apologize over. You can go to someone "I always apologize to you but you never apologize to me, that's not fair" like MAYBE that person didn't DO anything they need to apologize FOR and YOU DID. It doesn't have to be equal, I feel like her concept of accountability/apologies is stuck in preschool where they just make everyone apologize to each other no matter who was at fault, she really is just so stuck in "well I said sorry so now THEY have to say sorry too" like dude NOT how that works.

I haven't watched much of Gabbie's stuff, but I find the whole spiral fascinating. She reminds me so much of my dad (diagnosed with NPD when I was 11). His favorite phrase was, "You should be nicer to me!" Everything came back to him, he interpreted the world as revolving around him, even innocuous comments that had nothing to do with him were SURELY a hidden code to mock him. Her "Where's my apology?" is also so triggering because he was CONSTANTLY demanding apologies for things HE DID. He yelled at us kids so we avoided him? He needed an "apology" from us because we made him feel isolated. The whole turning it back on the victim is ALSO very familiar--DARVO, Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. If he was getting physically abusive and we kids yelled at him to stop, suddenly WE were being emotionally abusive to HIM. He was also king of accusing people of EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING. Projection is a NPD classic, you hear it again and again. And all the while, they're doing it on purpose, because they need that narcissist supply. Anything to feed their fragile egos and support their skewed worldview. I'm glad people are calling out this bad behavior because it's such a mindfuck when you're deep in it.

Waitaminute I can't be the only person that caught on to the fact that Gabbie said she tried hard to be the only persom in Jessie's life right?

Dude... It's pretty crystal clear at this point that Gabby is completely unhinged, it's some narcissistic rage shit. She's on a whole new level of crazy.

32:00 Another way she tries to use this manipulation tactic was with the Escape The Night situation, where she brings up that "Colleen also had a problem with the call-time". Daniel Preda points out how she picked the wrong person because Colleen is actually one of his closest friends, and calls her out for lying through her teeth.

Daniel really came for her soul in that video. And good! No one wants her manipulative and fake narratives.

The fact that gabbie has no idea she's the actual narcissist that is ruining her own life is just fascinating.

Swoop - you really hit the nail on the head with the discussion on histrionic personality traits. My little sister is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and our family therapy sessions have been so informative to me. Most personality disorders manifest in sets of three, histrionic being one. As well as narcissistic, borderline, anti-social, sociopathic, schizoid, paranoid, etc. Thank you for these thoughtful deep dives. You handle them with such care.

God I needed this video. Listening to you explain toxic relationships confirmed that this is what I have with my sister and it truly is best to just cut her out of my life. I already did it with my abusive father, but I'm truly starting to get ruthless in cutting people out of my life. Luckily I have my furbabies to give me snuggles, hugs and kisses.

I love watching SWOOP'S videos. I always feel so validated as an ab*se and ass*ult survivor :) Back to SWOOP talking about toxic behavior, I want to emphasize boundaries. A few weeks ago, my therapist explain to me when someone tries to shift your boundaries, they are trying to gain control over the relationship. I hope this helps someone out there :)

Im watching this over a year later and seeing where Gabbie is now is quite scary. She needs professional help and medication. Im no doctor or therapist but she has really bad mental issues. She just let some random guy, whom she does not know, come into her apartment. She was making videos with him, she had no who he was, she could have been killed or seriously injured. Or worse she could have a story like Jessie's.
