@@scott-w86 I watched Barkley in virtually every game he played last season against all the big sides in the Prem, and he often looked the best, or one of the best, midfielders on the pitch. How many English no.8s in Southgate’s squad are actually better? Barkley is better than Conor Gallagher for starters.

Barkley is an excellent footballer. Played in the 6 for Luton, and raised that team to nearly keep them up. Has the technical level to take the ball on the half turn and recycle it. Rice can't do this. At the top level, and if Barkley was say, Spanish, he'd be a regular. We did the same thing to Michael Carrick, horrendously underused him. Barkley has transitioned into more rounded professional, he can play in midfield, and not just be a flashy atk mid or 10

No chance. Barkley's defensive stats are beyond terrible. He wont/can't tackle, wont/doesn't sense danger, will not track runners, plods around pointing at others when the opposition have the ball and ducks under the ball when in aerial duels. Villa will use him sparingly as a sub when behind and need an offensive spark.

Barkley will never play for England again… 1. He’s too old, 2. He is not good enough.. 3. He only got capped because there was no other player available at the time… now there’s a line and he’s at the end of it
