A continuation from the Gage heads intake port modification briefly explained. Then this video expands on the exhaust ports effect in the induction process and its influence on the intake ports capability to deliver the air/fuel mixture!

Valve overlap also allows the exhaust to exit more easily/efficiently.

It does not have to be too deep and even .030 minimum will yield some effect! I do not want to sink too much specially on high compression engines. A little CC drops the ratio big time!

Do you have experience with the e6 302 heads? I put a set on a 351w that ran good to 4000 rpm. I'm curious to why Ford raised the valves in relation to the deck and had more of a heart shaped combustion chamber. It appeared to have some potential for the right combo

If you are on a 351 the minimum is the GT40 3 bar version! The GT40P is ok and prefer the former. The E6 is a swirl cylinder head and really lacks serious breathing to make good power! Torque yes but that is about it.

Hi Ben, I would like your thoughts on the pressure waves(?) created within the port when the intake valve opens & closes. Measuring a ports air flow with a static valve opening is one thing, however I always question how this relates to the real world, engine running, intake flow . Thank you, Tony.

Check my latest video about intake ports and I explained the recovery and discharging of the air column when the valves opens up. This will probably answer your questions. Check under Traditional low ports vs high ports.
