Comparison for temperature stability during the shot between a cheap Aliexpress PID controller Vs. PID kit from Auber. Real temperature has offset -8°C. I use 16g ground coffee and same baskets for both machines. Static brew pressure is adjusted to 9.5bar for both as well.
Settings on both are:
P: 4.0/I: 60/D: 15/Souf: 0.2/ot: 2/Psb: - 008

The PID does not seems to be well set on the left one. We can see it going down to 93 and not going back to 94 in few seconds. The P or the D is probably not set correctly.

I use the same cheap controller on Ascaso Arc and it's very responsive. The only problem I have is relatively slow heating up from room temperature, it heats a bit more than 50% of the time and I'd wish constant heating up to about 70C. I'll probably have to tweak parameters by hand.

yes Auber use custom algorithm for starting up the machine up to 75C(always on) but this controller is universal, not a big issue though.

Yes, you can tweak these universal PIDs. Search for XTM7100 manual and you’ll learn how to set the P, I and D parameters and the full on parameter which is the one you’d like to change.

hi man. what do you think about gaggia classic. what comes in my mind that boiler is aluminium and group head is brass and it is not desirable . do you know what happening when combine these two metal? corrosian? give your thoughts

I know you asked the guy the question but you can easily find out that brass and aluminium are two of the worst metals to put together as you get eventually get galvanic corrosion especially under high heat,. However, you will find that the Gaggia classics with the Aluminium boiler actually have a stainless steel group head that come with a aluminium plate for the shower screen with replacements you can buy as either brass or stainless steel. Brass is better for maintaining consistent heat, stainless is good as well but not as good and aluminium is just crap.

hey, do you have a instruction manual to install the pid on those older machines? i only have one for the newer one with 3 seperated switches.

I have one for rancilio silvia if you still need it…I’d assume it’s the same for gaggia classis

I know nobody asked but I removed my logo, and I think it looks cleaner that way :) Sure there are three little holes, but I can mount a manometer or something one day :)

Where are you measuring the temp? If 94 is at the boiler h then wouldn’t the brew head be LESS 8 degrees? You said 102. Thanks for the clarification.

@@dsiddiqui5111 Sensors are positioned on place of the standard thermostat(107°C) near to the heating element so difference is around 8°C, same number is set in the PID as offset.

@@victorbrewseverywhere hi. So ultimately after inputting the 8 degree or so temp offset in the settings, I should set the desired set value in PiD to what I wish to brew at? Thanks for the update.
