Klingon cuisine is not for the faint of heart. Case in point, gagh is always best when served live. This Star Trek video documents that quintessential Klingon delicacy that is gagh, from TNG through Enterprise.

It looks like raw meat and seafood so it's probably good, im probably biased tho cause I love sashimi

Tastes like ginger rootbeer flavored gummy worms probably! Hahah! I had small octopus tentacles served cold, in a dark inky purple sauce, they were quite tasty, but I can't really describe it with an analogy, because there's just nothing else quite similar that I've had to compare it with. I really wish they hadn't shut that restaurant down...it was my favorite. 😥 Some people got sick eating there, but none of the weird stuff I ate ever bothered me, they probably got sick from some of the more regular food, I imagine...probably a salad, LoL!

There are a ton of clips where Worf eats something everyone else hates. Maybe Klingons just have different taste.

@@luna-hw9li I'm sure it's an acquired taste. But if it were entirely unpalatable to non-Klingons, there wouldn't be a successful Klingon restaurant on DS9 and non-Klingons wouldn't be so familiar with Klingon cuisine.

@@theweirdofengland probably, yes. I thought that it might be like oysters, where the stuff looks strange and the taste is something that some people really like and some people truly hate.

I also remember gagh from when I was younger and played Star Trek Generations pc game. I'm pretty sure it was from a Klingon food replicator and I was pressing the button over and over and there was like 2 items it would give you and one of them was gagh. Visit

What I remember when I first saw this episode years ago, was that the Klingon actually told Riker that gagh was best served "very fresh" - he didn't say "live." But that is what he meant

Probably very rich in protein and healthy for the physical traits of a warrior, or for humans, a bodybuilder, heavy laborer or athlete

The Klingons would better off using that Gagh for fish bait. Makes me think of that one bit in Futurama where Zoidberg eats all of Hermes's bait.

If gagh was real I would try it. LMAO It's kind of funny, when I try to do a themed meal I get lo mein noodles with beef and broccoli. I would say it was gagh with cooked heart of targ. I was a goofy kid.

You can get purple soba noodles at some Japanese restaurants. It is typically served cold, so it's easier to pretend they're gagh that way.

There used to be this Asian buffet called Green Leaves that had all kinds of exotic food, including octopus tentacles(with the tiny suction cups on them) served cold, in an inky purple sauce. It was quite good, actually. It was probably the closest thing I've eaten to Klingon food, but they still weren't served live. 😅

Fun fact: the gagh seen in the thumbnail and much of the video (TNG, VOY) is a Korean dish made from bracken fern called gosari-namul.

My only concerns would be if it was in any way flavored with anything so it didn't just taste like worm, and if it carried a risk of any internal damage or parasites if it made it to my stomach still kicking. Also, missed the clip from DS9 of the girl in the wheelchair from the low gravity planet arguing in Klingon with the chef of the Klingon restaurant about the quality of his GAGH.

I would try it for the novelty of it and because I've always loved klingon characters and customs. At least since TNG. Before that in TOS I didn't see much difference between klingons and Romulans and I hated romulans.

Honestly, I prefer racht. They've got more meat on them. Just gotta make sure they're still lively. They're only good when nice and squirmy, there's nothing worse than half-dead racht.

Yes.. i think they're wood worms I discovered it in the philippines where they find a decayed log and tear it apart to find the worms Although it's not best serve live.. you need to dip it on vinegar to cancel the disgusting taste

There's raw marinated young octopus in Korea. It's said to still twitch in the plate. Plus, if you ever ate fresh oyster without getting food poisoning, it was alive.
