Yup, the two people that run their amps wide open all the time, Hi-Fi enthusiast's and PA techs, why? Because when the music calls for a dynamic bass response the amp is now in a position to deliver. I had forgotten this concept as we moved to home theaters and integrated amps, suddenly there were no pre-amps as in the HI-FI days. So there was no way to control the integrated amps amp gain, our only control is the amps volume knob and we usually keep that locked at room listening levels, so when a dynamic bass response is called for by the music the amp doesn't have enough volume to properly reflect the amount of bass called for. I have figured out a way around this modern problem. I run my integrated amp wide open and use my TV as the pre-amp, thus when the music calls for a large bass response my amp is ready to deliver, this method has really opened up my listening enjoyment, as I am getting the dynamic range that the artists have intended. The only downside is you have to closely monitor the volume levels going into a wide open amp as too much signal will blow you out of your seat.
