What I love about Gaismagorm is that it's basically the Devil, and thematically it fits perfectly as the main antagonist in a medieval themed MH. Also, Malzeno's power are "borrowed" from him, just like Dracula's powers (and other classic vampires) come from the Devil itself.

@@jerq887 I´d love a new classification, even if a sub-class. We do have Elder Dragon as a big one, but also things like "Black Dragons" that Fatalis, Dire Miralis and Gogmazios are part of. So why not have Demons as a subclass of Elder Dragons, things that are manipulating entire ecosystems to fit their own ecology on a grand scale.

Do you ever get the feeling of "What have you done ?!" in a song ? To describe the feeling, it would be a sense of sudden extreme urgency combined with frightened realization of what was 'creeping beneath the surface' if you allow me the expression. I think the organ is the qurio's instruments, because I know that the frenzy does have an associated instrument, the digeridoo appears in gore magala, chaotic gore, and frenzied monsters. the organ appears in sunbreak appears in 2 monster themes, being malzeno and gaismagorm the 2 monsters who can control the qurio however you could argue the creepy string section with the horn could be the qurio's theme since it makes that noise when the qurio left malzeno's corpse, the start of gaismagorm's theme, and whenever you fight an afflicted monster

I never knew _that_ sound was a digeridoo. When the loud, impacting chants came in during my first hunt of Gaismagorm , I literally stopped moving, I stopped hunting, just to appreciate the overwhelming sense of inevitability and dread the music created. The sudden drop of volume into silence, really pushing the bar of anticipation, and every second, even on the moment of silence, it's just absolute perfection in how it's orchestrated and it's composition, and how it creates a "push and pull" on the overall hunt, it's definitely an incredible theme.

I honestly feel that those parts of this song 8:24 to 8:30 sounds like a desperation to not let giasmagorm get out. Like the speed and the continuous movement(sound wise) that gives me the feeling of we gotta hurry up and overpower him before he absorbs to much qurios to the point where we can’t stop him AT ALL. A desperate attempt to overpower it. Tbh giasmagorms base power is insane but I’d say at shara level or a little higher but the whole thing with the qurios makes him just a dangerous than that. My favorite part about Gaismagorm is helped by his theme a lot. He’s massive, which is something I always love about bosses, especially monsters. The sheer power his attacks have is incredible, and at some point Fiorayne stops referring to him as a monster and only calls him a demon, as if something like this could never exist naturally in this world. This is also aided by him opening a flaming vortex in the sky, the sound his roar has, and the theme. The theme really makes you feel like you are fighting something beyond anything you have faced so far. For me it makes me feel like the thing in front of me will bring Ruin to everything if I don’t stop it right here right now. I definitely say that the team did a fantastic job for everything with Gaismagorm.

I think the organ in Malzeno's theme is a reference to Gaismagorm, because Malzeno has been actually "corrupted" by Gaismagorm which "used" his Qurios on him, so the organ in Malzeno's theme is a sort of clue for the player that says: "Watch out, because this is not the true enemy of the story", but the player realizes it when he/she actually reaches the final boss, so... That's my idea.

@@spacemegalodon5049 yes, i know his "plan" was to kill the monsters on the surface and not to "corrupt" Malzeno. Obviously he couldn't know the dragon could survive to the Qurios and even use them. It was a metaphor, because Malzeno is inspired to vampires who take their powers from the Devil.

Been waiting for this analysis ever since your Malzeno video. The thing I love about Gaisamgorm is that it completes Malzeno's origin and references in a sense. Since Malzeno is based off of vampires (specifically Dracula) then Gaismagorm is the "Devil" it made a deal with (poetically speaking). This is even more fitting considering that Gaismagorm's armor pretty much forces you into a "faustian bargain" of sorts. Having the organ be so prominent in both of their themes was definitely an aspect of musically bridging these monsters together in so many ways.

So I looked up this song before watching this vdeo and here is my take on what I think about it: It has a very ominous tone, a cruel tirany. The forces you're fighting are reckless and this song represents an epic struggle against an epic evil. The stakes are high (naturally on boss fight) and any mistakes can mean a horrible fait. Your foe is strong enough to tear you appart and they know it. It is about heroic survival rather than heroic chalenge.

What if the organ is the instrument for the Qurio actually? Since they are the connection between Gaismagorm and Malzeno. Also, it kind of gave me vibes of the Kraken theme from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 because of the organ and the… heavyness of it, I guess you could say. Kind of has the same sneaky start too, though not as long. To me, Gaismagorm is straight up a kaiju. The glows blue inside of his mouth especially reminded me of Otachi from Pacific Rim and I can’t unsee it. Thank you for making a video on this theme, it’s one of my favorites in Sunbreak. Those brass notes just go right under my skin.

It does make sense that the theme sounds satanic because is monster is also known as the arch demon of the abyss. The reason why there is a reference to malzeno's theme is because both of these monsters use the qurio to make themselves stronger.

Gaismagorm’s theme is in Tritones, which was dubbed as “diabolus in musica” or the Devil’s Interval in the early 18th Century. It still sees that name used today, occasionally.

Yeah, the tritone is what I refer to as "elder dragon chord". They love to spam it in elder dragon themes

For me the theme feels like: It's like you know when the Big Boss gave some of his power to the grunts-(Malzeno) to handle things for him, without him getting his hand dirty, and even with all that power, the grunts still fails. So the Big Boss is annoyed that he has to leave his territory to do the job himself since his grunts are failures. Malzeno gets slayed, Gaismagorm calls the Qurios back with Malzeno's dragon energy. I know some of y'all might say "thats not what actualy happened", but I already understand the game story. What im trying to say is that i get this kind of vibe coming from this theme.

For me this theme gives me the vibes of Gaismagorm feeling sad and misunderstood, or desperate. Like it was something like the Chaotic Magala, crippled. My headcanon is that it’s related to the celestial serpents, maybe a subspecies, maybe it once was the 3rd of an trio. Gaismagorm and Malzeno have some of the best themes to date, which makes it pretty sad Lunagoron and Garangolm got the short end of the stick.

I love the sense of urgency in this theme. If you fail to hunt gaismagorm, it's all over kinda feel. Specifically when he's trying to climb out of the arena, and the hunters desperately trying to shoot it down. Great analysis as per usual. Would you do proof of a hero, sunbreak version?

Gaismagorm is referencing a myriad of depictions of the biblical devil, from the morning star lucifer, all the way to the lord of the flies Beelzebub. And it's connection to Malzeno is 100% a reference to how Dracula got his powers directly from Satan himself.

The way I perceived it was Malzeno was always the puppet, only strong because the Qurio enhanced him, and since the Qurio belong to Gaismagorm, it was a false power. The organ harmonics could have been placed for Malzeno to show this power (vampires and their organs right?) but when it comes up in Gaismagorm's theme it's meant to reference where the real power comes from, to let you know that Malzeno was only a taste of what Gaismagorm's power really could do.

I think your right, Gaismagorm is referenced on Malzeno theme, it makes a lot of sense in the context of the fight, to remenber Malzeno and the organs on his theme... and you make the conexion uncunsciusly. Ive read on some video of his theme, a comment that says Gaismagorm has the so called "devil cord", I think it repeats till it goes to 666. Even his mouth resembles a pentagram... it has 6 limbs...

The most interesting thing to think about gaismagorm is that it's design is literaly an nature's aberration , it takes the vital force of other monsters like a strange supernatural power , thus is still have been created by nature itself.

Personally i think that the organ is the instrument that represents qurios, both Malzeno and Gaismagorm share this tiny monsters, but because Malzeno uses a lot more qurios directly for his attack, the organ is more present than in Gaismagorm’s theme. But the fact that there’s no organ in the sound effect of an encounter with an afflicted monster kinda contradict the theory, so idk Great analysis, this fight was incredible

You mentioned early in the review that Malzeno works for Gaismagorm to some extent, which makes Malzeno the instrument of destruction on behalf of Gaismagorm. Gaismagorm playing Malzeno like a fiddle 🎻.

Malzeno actually was stealing the Qurio from Gaismagorm to prevent Gaismagorm from gaining enough power from life force to escape the Yawning Abyss. Malzeno would steal the life force of other creatures to prevent them from getting a bit too close to the Yawning Abyss. Once you beat Malzeno, the Qurio go to Gaismagorm and it absorbs the life force and escapes the Yawning Abyss.

Actually the pattern of having the final boss being absent from the front scene most of the game is pretty recurrent. :) Ceadeus in 3rd gen, Shara Ishvalda and Safi Jiva in Iceborne, Ibushi and Narwa in Rise, etc... Love your analysis tho ! It's really easy to understand the ideas behind the composition thanks to you :)

Hey Davi, awesome Video as usual! I must say, Gaismagorm´s Theme became one of my favs since it reflects how evil and terrifying this creature is. Also, I noticed a lot of six beats in this song, which is an allusion to Satan 🤔Idk if I'm wrong or right tho!

always loved your breakdowns sir Davi Vasc, the part where you’re linking the key instrument for both Mal and Gais is spot on, but what I realized, the very monster that’s consistent in Sunbreak is/are the Qurios, they’re responsible for all this imbalanced eco habitat behaviour what the monsters used to have around El gado and or the Citadel, anyway, thanks again, looking forward for more of your awesome breakdowns

I really love the chord analysis that you include in these videos, it helps with visualizing the vibe the composers were going for :) Monster hunter has some great leitmotifs going on in its soundtracks Would you ever consider exploring the music of splatoon in the future? It’s super solid and fits into the world building even, with fictional bands writing the music in-universe. The salmon run music (by the band w-3 in-universe) is some of my favorite with its time signature manipulation and choppy cello melodies

Great analysis as always Davi, what a treat to watch! Wonder if you'd be interested in checking out the Forlorn Arena theme from Sunbreak - it's a remaster of the classic 'Tower' theme, but with an added final part in true Rise fashion. I can't help by drawing parallels of it to the Coral Highlands theme as well as Nargacuga's theme, but that may just be me.

"shows no signs of divinity it once knew" This is not just depicting Satan, this is Lucifer. A fallen angel that once was in Heaven, but now only lives deep under, with wings unable to make it ascend. Gaismagorm is depicting a fallen angel.
