I've been searching for a decent Galactic Civ 3 Crusade / Intrigue tutorial that explains things. I've discovered yours. Thank you. Very good job explaining the "whys and wherefores." I really like the game but the complexities were keeping me from enjoying it as much as I possibly could without understanding the game mechanics. This first tutorial answered many questions about the game play that I hadn't quite grasped before using the default tutorial, various "wikis" and other available resources.

I've already been playing the game for some 80 hours but decided to check this out anyway to make sure I don't miss helpful stuff and the rally point thing is soooo useful. I've even been thinking I wish I could put pins on the map so I remember where things are. Thank you so much! In return, I'll mention that The Hyperspace Project actually doesn't provide any benefit from receiving adjacency bonuses, it's only good for the base effects and providing adjacency to other buildings. (although with nine more episodes, maybe this comes up anyway)

Thanks for the awesome vid. It’s nice because you actually explain what you’re doing and what the effects will be, then why you’re choosing that action, rather than “this is the best way because it is.” This is super helpful; I thought this game was going to be easy to pick up ‘cause I’ve put a ton of hours into civ games and stellaris. In galactic civilizations 2 there were two mods that I enjoyed greatly. The first one was the Stargate mod it added four sizes of Stargate to the game the planetary which allowed for nearly instant speed movement of troops from one planet to another if it has a Stargate, the system one did the same for ships from system to system and the galactic that last one could be placed anywhere that you placed a space station and could be a space station itself and mobile if it was a deathstar like station. The second one was the tellaport system that was the same as the previous one with the exception that it would occasionally duplicate something that used the system and you could even duplicate entire planets given enough attempts but you also had a fairly high risk of losing whatever you had sent through or severely damaging it. I also played with a mod that added lots of space dwelling creatures sometimes you could tame them sometimes you couldn't.

@ColorsFade Gaming - GC3, the only game that requires a 10 part beginners guide tutorial just to understand why one keep finishing last in every game despite having decades of experiencing playing strategy games on all platforms. Which I guess that should tell you something about the game that it must be good enough to merit us having to invest this time to figure out how to finish better than last lol. Thanks for the vid, lets see if it works miracles ;) Bonus points when Im not even 10 minutes into the vid and Im learning things to do in the setup alone. For instance, I know the tech tree has changed significantly. So what would be your biggest advice changes from this tutorial, especially for the early game?
@ColorsFadeGaming
@ColorsFadeGaming 4 жыл бұрын
One thing for sure is that they nerfed anomalies, so doing the whole "switch to an expensive research to advance it" isn't as important anymore. I'd say #1 - make sure you make two citizens Scientists, so you can use Epiphanies to get the two big Logistics jumps in the middle (yellow) age. You'll need those logistics to make big enough fleets to gun down your enemies. First 2-4 Citizens can probably still be Administrators, but at some point in time you need a couple Scientists in anticipation of those Logistical techs. Gotta get those. Critical to winning. #2 - one of the first Constructors you send out to get resources, make it Antimatter, and then gun for the Antimatter Power Plant in the Research tree. Get that ASAP, as it will benefit you greatly on your homeworld (or a Precursor world if it can build it fast enough). Really prioritize Durantium and Prometheon. You'll need Prometheon to perform Citizen Promotions and you'll need Durantium for a LOT of stuff, including making extra Legions. Also - prioritize getting Helios Ore, Armor Spice and Epimetheus Pollon. You need those resources for promotions. So if you see planets with those when you're colonizing, get those. You don't want to have to be beholden to the Market to buy it if you can have your own supply. Other than that, most of the Tutorial series will guide you well. Stick with it. You'll learn :-)

This looks like an awesome extension to the Galactic Civilization Series! However, I do like Sid Meier's Civilization a little more truth be told, especially number 4. What I like about those games, is you can choose a random civ to be, which is an option I don't see here. Despite that, I still can admire other cool features of this game such as victory progress as a percentage. I do have 2 questions/comments of interest: 1. Have you ever played as benevolent as opposed to pragmatic/malevolent? 2. I am mildly disappointed one cannot play as the Korx. You instead see them as advisors in this game. They were a really cool race in Galactic Civ 2. Since they appear as tall, thin humanoids with no face/eyes, they remind me of Slenderman. What do you think of my analogy? Anyways, thank you for this dope playthrough, and looking at your vids may inspire me to play this game (Don't have yet, might get on Steam)! Happy Belated New Year!

I did a Benevolent play-through here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jqtge9Oaxra0g5c.html If you elect to purchase the game on Steam, my recommendation would be to skip the Retribution DLC. At the very least, lookup my Retribution play-through's and watch those. This video here is very old, and it is from a time when the game was very fun. I spent more time playing this game between 2015 and 2018 than any other game. Unfortunately, Stardock killed the game with the Retribution DLC and the patches they released around the same time. They've changed the game so much from what it was here, back when it was fun. I no longer play this game. I have removed it from my Steam library. I would caution anyone from buying the game, given what Stardock has done to it. I don't want folks to blow money on a game and find out it's not what they thought it would be.

It's a really good turn-based 4X. I think the fact that its turn-based helps it a lot. 4X games can be a little hectic and overwhelming to play, but the turn-based pace makes the game quite a bit easier to get into. And the diversity of the sandbox play gives it a lot of replay value.

@@ColorsFadeGaming I think it is the scale of things personally. Perhaps the whole idea of a galaxy wide struggle for power feels better to me in an 4x format than what civilization did. Perhaps because knowing what to do in the early game depends upon knowledge only acquired much later on? I think that's why in general I dislike adjacency mechanics (Civ6 being another game that's plagued by them). Anyhow, this vid helped enormously. Thanks.

So... let me qualify that comment a bit. As the game stands right now, April 2020, the largest maps are NOT the same size as they used to be. They used to be MUCH bigger. And so, because they were bigger, they ran poorly on certain systems. Stardock has approached this problem 2 ways. First, by analyzing the user system, and deactivating maps they don't feel the user system can handle. And second, by actually reducing the map size of the larger maps. Personally, I miss the size of the old big maps. I didn't care if a turn took 30 seconds or longer. I liked the old map sizes. But... I understand why they changed it.

Hiya. I've got crusade DLC but not the Intrigue DLC. Is it worth spending the extra £15.49 on steam for it and why?
@ColorsFadeGaming
@ColorsFadeGaming 4 жыл бұрын
IMO it's worth it, but everyone evaluates money differently. There are two things I really like about Intrigue. 1) The Galactic Market, which allows you to buy and sell resources (like Durantium and Prometheon). It's a great way to be able to get resources that you don't have a lot of, for building special improvements, etc. The amount of resources on the market are dependent on the number being mined in the galaxy. So if you're short on Prometheon, for instance, there will probably be some on the Galactic Market you can buy. 2) Governments. They are neat, IMO, and they somewhat alter the game play strategy, especially for the player. They require some planning if you're one of those people who likes to expand fast (like me). They offer some nice bonuses (and some drawbacks) so there is usually something that will fit your particular play style.

Are you sure the AI difficulty is only resource income plusses or malluses? I've heard (at least for Gal Civ 2) Star Dock really worked on making the AI smarter and able to play the game better. I think that might've been carried over somewhat into the next game. Maybe not the highest levels.
@ColorsFadeGaming
@ColorsFadeGaming Жыл бұрын
Yes, the difficulty level is the only source of bonuses and penalties. The AI you are talking is in reference to decision-making; Which planet should I colonize first? Should I got to war with this neighbor? How many ships should I build? All of those decisions are part of the "AI" and do not affect bonuses and penalties to production.

9:20 Civ II? Pfft, Everyone knows that Alpha Centauri was the best Civ game. Basically Civ II on Alpha Centauri (built on the same engine right after Civ II), but with far, far more customization and options. I calculated it out one time and there were more than 1,000,000 possible unit combinations. Although, in most games players would rarely use more than a few dozen. Also, the raising and lowering of terrain was a cool feature that allowed for a lot of interesting tactics. I just wish the AI was capable as it fell apart in the end game, having no idea how to fight effectively...but then again that is still true of the most recent civ games.

really nice video and tutorial in a whole! :) we just got it recently with renewed hopes for a good 4x game... :( but... the default settings - which i usually presume devs thought a lot about - are ridiculous. as you have also shown here; there is literally nothing in this game or rather on the map! :D i mean, what is this? real space? you have like 8 systems in a third of the map and there are barely 2 habitable planets??? and between all is only vast emptiness of space. i don’t get it. there is nothing to do after turn 25. we have played some hours now and really... nothing. the few planets we have are already completely built, some space stations do something... but we don’t see anyhting to do anymore. :D i guess we will try to create our own world with +500% systems and abundant habitable planets, because at it’s normal settings this game cannot even slightly be compares with other civilizations games. it looks like expansion was not in the developers mind and there is also no exploration whatsoever because alla is empty, except for some small collectibles now and then. we will give it more time but for now i must say i am pretty disappointed... :( do you have any suggestion/approach for getting more out of it? mods? good settings? thx man!
@ColorsFadeGaming
@ColorsFadeGaming 4 жыл бұрын
Many versions ago the maps were MUCH more populated. So the default settings worked quite nicely. But over time, Stardock spent too much time listening to the squeaky wheel of players who complained about the colony rush (honestly, my favorite part of the game). And so, in order to make the colony rush less important, they ultimately nerfed the game into oblivion. Now there's just less of everything. Their philosophy behind this is "if there's less of everything, then your choices matter MORE" - but honestly I find this to be a B.S. answer. I think they're full of crap; I think they don't play their own game enough, and if they did they'd see how much they've hollowed it out over the years. That said, just turn everything up. And if you want a mod that adds a lot, Horemvore's Community Patch is the mod to get. I have a series on my channel somewhere, from long ago, where I used his patch, and I think I ended up with 300 colonized planets. He also includes Star Trek races (You don't have to use them though). I used them in that play through... was kind of fun.

ColorsFade Gaming wow! thx for the great answer! :) - even with backstory. makes sense what you’re saying, it really seems like a galactic nerf. but yeah, i also just tried to put all the settings up and the game is really cool now... actually feels like you are doing something. thx also for the mod suggestion! we will definitely check it out! i don’t know about the stardock philosophy and imo the greatest 4x space game ever done is still sins of a solar empire. honestly i miss a lot of the things there in galactic civ... i don’t understand why nobody can make a really good and “whole” game like sins anymore? why is there no exp system? no battle-system whatsoever? remember the unique special abilities of the capital ships, absulte rts-fleet/battle control... i don’t know why as soon as someone “rasters” a playfield all the other cool features get dropped. i want a real playfield but also diplomacy, research, stations, fleets... :) ok... sry for the rant! cheers man! if you’re still into the game maybe we can hook up some time and play a round together.

Why does your game start with no shipyard?
@ColorsFadeGaming
@ColorsFadeGaming 4 жыл бұрын
Because at this point in the game's evolution, in this particular version of the game, Stardock thought it was a good idea for players to start without a shipyard. Players naturally complained about that adjustment, and later they changed it back to the way it has been for the majority of the game.

I was looking for a turn based space 4x and heard a lot of praise for GC3, but here I see it doesn't 'feel' turn based, cause you're basically pressing the same button again and again. Plus it looks very boardgame-ified where you can get 1 citizen, out of supposedly billions, to be an administrator, every couple of turns!! Basically it sounds very immersion breaking to me. Distant worlds is far better then. I played it and it felt much more 'realistic' than this one. I hate that now I have to go back and start looking again for another 4s turn based game.
