Dragon Age Origins: Alistair vs. Zevran

Alistair reminds me of Carth Onasi a little: "I don't trust you! You will betray us all!"
But I didn't trust Zevran during my first playthrough either. ;) (And I love Carth Onasi ;))

+MissUnknownGirl28 Nevarra is supposed to be the Spain-like country. The word even looks a lot like Navarre, a region of Spain. And the Spanish word for Navarre is Navarra. Antiva is the Italian-like country. I think the Crows are supposed to evoke the Mafia a bit.

If you look at the World of Thedas you will see that Nevarra is actually based on Egypt, not Spain (despite the name). Also Antiva is a mix of Spain and Italy. The voice actor who does Zevran actually sounds a lot like Antonio Banderas when doing "Puss in Boots" in the Shrek movies, and the few Antivan words that Zevran speaks are actually Spanish, not Italian. My understanding is the political structure of Antiva is based on medieval Italian City-States, but the language is based on Spanish.

There are even more lines of dialogue between them, involving Zevran's tattoos and him trying to talk Alistair into getting one. And if you don't wish to keep running back and forth across the bridge (or similar places) there is a terrific mod called "Banter Now" that lets you get them to talk anywhere just by typing in a console code. It's really handy - especially when that banter opens up new dialogue at camp.

Skyrim has a great engine and much prettiness but no story and no soul. Dragon age has a kind of fugly engine and extremlely restricted CC choices compared to Skyrim, but the story and dialogue are miles better. Millions of miles.

totally agree. i wish tes 6 will be much better. a bit more like DA in the matter of dialouge and stuffs but as large and atmospheric like skyrim

***** that's too harsh. Skyrim has different ways to tell a story, which are based on exploring, and creating your own adventure for yourself. It definitely has a soul for me. The story in Skyrim is interesting too, but it's presented as a puzzle, and you must find certain pieces to really get it. Dragon Age is more like a classical fantasy novel. TES is actually a story of a world, and you can become a part of it. Dragon Age is focused on your story. And both games are great, they are just different.

Galagraphia Yes, I know it's difficult to have a deep narrative in an open world, but that said, they could have done a *way* better job of it. For instance, you walk through a town and people shout their life stories at you one line at a time if you move within 2m of them. You're asked to believe that 20 men are an army and 5 houses a city. Dragons are killed by a couple of bears, and there are endless dungeons full of bandits repeating the same 5 lines over and over, even if different voices. Skyrim has potential for great immersion, because youa re actually in the landscape, but even the core followers are essentially armed pack mules with 1 page of script taped to their faces. Having played about 500 hours of Skyrim, I can say I've enjoyed many aspects of it, and will continue to play, but there is not a single character in the entire game I care about. I mean, take Sofie. For about 5 seconds when I met her I was moved, so I bought everything she had for sale (even though I didn't want it) and thought 'damn, got to go and get a house so I can adopt this kid!'. So I did, and had half an hour of enjoyment putting a house together, went back and adopted her, and then she had about 4 lines of dialogue after that. You can pick from any number of people to marry, but your wife's personality is no deeper than which voiceset she has. I do really like Skyrim,but it just has no soul at the core of it. Once you get sick of running about and clearing dungeons, you get sick of the game. Dragon age on the other hand is a pretty linear story, but the only main characters in the whole thing I did not like were Duncan and Wynne. I would even find myself looking forward to finishing the mission so I could go and talk to my followers in camp. Playing a mage, I even liked Morrigan, and managed to make her into a semi-sympathetic character by taking her side on matters of magic and freedom, if not agreeing with her lack of morals or lust for power. Both make you into an epic hero, but in Skyrim you still get guards calling you a sneak-thief because your sneak skill is above 40, in the 'city' that you are a thane of and have saved from destruction numerous times. They are just mechanical monologue spouters. There are no people in that game.

I beat Uncharted 2 like 4,000 times and Flynn's voice was like imprinted into my brain, and while watching this video I nearly had a heart attack, because I recognized it so fast.

@22srs22 yeah, the cut content in that game was staggering. Off the top of my head they cut out an extra planet, the HK droid factory, hundreds of cutscenes including character development, massive expansions in Korriban and Nar Shadda and the companions going to the malachor academy as well

@InsanelyxLogical I never finished my very first playthrough and actually got the strategy guide before completing any others. I now make it a point to at least keep Zevran close so I don't lose him so close to the end. I'm a stickler for keeping all my party members alive, although I can never bring myself to recruit Loghain, I like Alistair too much.

I got so caught up on my character and the first conversation that I didn't realize your character was a female while mine is a male. It got incredibly awkward for me for the past 2 and a half days. Luckily I haven't tried, Morrigan is my love target (which I successfully pulled) but she's more of a one time person.

@Aracknia Ironically, I heard Loghain isn't such a bad guy. Well despite the fact he betrayed you. Either way, he apparently is really funny, and a good solider. You just pretty much lose Alistair just to get him. Which sucks. I'd like to see a mod that allows both of them, heck, they can create a Ser Gilmore mod, why not an Alistair and Loghain mod?
