Big facts lol seen iPhones and Galaxy's shatter from dropping less than 3 feet, and seen both survive with no issues dropping higher than 10 feet.

well just to be fair, design, materials used, and environment have a measurable effect on drops. luck is always a factor but a bad design would break upon the first drop.
@doman9891
@doman9891 5 жыл бұрын
insanebmxthomas obviously it matters, It’s just hard to measure through these tests, and the angle at which your phone drops plays a bigger role than its design. The thing is, I personally have seen many flagships shatter by a mild and slow drop in the weirdest situations,(Samsung or Apple) so I don’t think a test like this would be actually helpful.

I've got one, and believe me; it's an alright phone, but nothing life changing. Once you own it, you realise all its faults, too. It's slippery, you tend to misclick on the edges a lot while holding it, the power button is too far up and the ultrasonic finger print reader isn't as good as you think. Don't get me wrong, it's a good phone, but some of its faults combined with the expensive hole it leaves in your pocket removes a lot of the joy from it. At the end of the day, it's just a tool that will be outbested in another few months by another.

I'm surprised that no one in the comment section mentions draw backs of ceramics. YES they are scratch resistant(level 8 on the mole's scale), however it's less impact resistant than glass since you can't have a material that is both hard and strong. I know this because I'm an engineer and I owned 3 ceramic phone made by Xiaomi in the past, they were extremely scratch resistant but very easy to shatter. So how did this ceramic S10 survive in the video? STATISTICS my friend.

Funny how they went from making Active Sports model phones to all glass. I guess they needed a design to bring customers back to new models sooner. My current s5 Active was groped many many times from the seat of a big rig trucks seat. And it was not till I noticed a hairline surface Crack under the front bottom buttons that I bought a $9 rubber case wrap for it . Still takes a beating. Still working great on my s5 Active. Now... we've gone from 16mp cameras to all glass. Hmmmm

Interesting to note the ceramic model is about 20 grams heavier than the glass model at 198 grams for the ceramic. I think it would be fair to say you would be expecting a thin fairly heavy for it's size slab of electronics sandwiched between two thin layers of glass (tempered or otherwise)and or glass/ceramic to be a high chance of damage with any drop. A case does not cost much , not worth the risk not too have one Imo .

I have never dropped my phone in that manner. Usually it's in my hand and drops vertically downwards. Never flat. Not sure how that would occur. Either way it's always better to have a case. Even though I didn't have one on my S7 (just upgraded to the ceramic white S10+) and dropped it maybe 10 tons without an issue at all. But, that 11th time in a bathroom. The screen cracked at the bottom. Replaced screen before it moved upwards. It's always the luck of the draw.

I have to agree with you. I think the highest a phone would drop from with your average man's height being 5.9 I think would probably be barely over 3 feet if it drops from pocket and 4 point something feet if it drops from the hands. If it drops from hands while talking on the phone the just below how tall the guy might be unless your sitting down. There are so many variables when it comes to dropping a phone in the first place. What if your not even on concrete? That's just one variable and there are to many more to go through so there you go. Like you said practically an entertainment video especially when they start dropping from unrealistic heights.
@cube2fox
@cube2fox 5 жыл бұрын
Drop tests are still much more useful than scratch tests. Scratches are not a big risk for your phone, dropping it is. That said, there are better ways to measure drop resistance.

@@CRIMSON-FLAME1 I'm a bit disagree at this point... in this case, she compared the "toughness" of the ceramic and regular glass. And the aim of the video is delivered, the ceramic one is stronger if not much stronger. That's the information ppl should know, that's it. of course things like "unrealistic test between the two,or amount of force applied on each surface" could be debatable, but still a "practice" enough and closer to reality, I prefer drop test actually than the scratch test. And we should stop arguing about how this "abusive" kind of test is realistic or not, you're missing the point entirely
