My wife was diagnosed with this last May, we took her into the emergency room. We thought because she fell in February that her pain was due to the fall. She also lost about 15lbs that was unexplainable too. But they did a CT scan and found out about this horrific diagnosis. Her case was not operable, they had her go on Chemotherapy and then radiation. The radiation helped with the growths that were in the area of the radiation, but it spread into her abdomen and then became stage 4. She died on April 12th at 90 lbs and was 6' tall, we were married for 30 years, she was a healthy person up to this point and no history of cancer in her immediate family. This is a beyond horrible affliction.

My heart goes out to you. As a surgeon operating on and treating this condition, I know there is a lot of heartache.

@@loveleenkaur5991Hi, sorry to hear about your mother. My wife passed 11 months after diagnosis. But in retrospect, Wendy had symptoms before she went to the drs. for sometime. I had to convince her to go to ER, she was in so much pain. Hopefully you're mom has been discovered in time, so the treatment for her condition can be beneficial! I hope so, take care!

Thanks for the info. My best friend was just diagnosed and is already stage 4. She's young and it proceeded in an usual way. Moved down through the abdomen to the ovaries. Her 1st symptom was malignant ascites. It's spread to both breast, pre-cardiac LN, pre-carnial LN, liver, ovaries, all through the omentum and the ovarian tumors are growing at a rate of 2cm a week and are up to 13.9cm and 12.5cm. She begins chemo on Tuesday and we are all horrified at the rate it's been growing and spreading. They think she's only had it for a few weeks. She is a vegetarian too who never had any gallstones. It's just abnormal and terrifying. They start chemo next week. I never realized cancer could move so quickly. They misdiagnosed initially as ovarian cancer but when the OB/GYN oncologist opened her for exploratory surgery he said he'd never seen anything like it and knew it wasn't ovarian cancer and took biopsies. To have such an experienced MD come out and say I've never seen anything like this before was really scary. He put a Jackson-Pratt drain for the malignant ascites. It's been 3 weeks of terror. They have no surgical plans at this time for her due to the extent of the metastasis.

My sincere thoughts and prayers for your best friend. Aggressive variants of gallbladder cancer exist and spread through the abdomen to ovaries, though uncommon, does happen.

Thank you for your presentation. What is the prognosis for inoperable patients who receive chemotherapy? life expectancy?
@thesurgicalscholar10 ай бұрын
It is difficult to accurately predict. Dependent on a number of factors. Best to check with the oncologist. It is unfortunately a non-curable situation. The focus of any treatment paradigm is preserving quality of life, discussing options with oncology team, close liaison with palliative care team and for the patient living in the moment.

What is the cause of so many instances of gallstones in countries with high gall bladder cancer rates? It seems that would be worth knowing.

This is a very informative video. A closest person to me has recently diagnosed with gallbladder cancer. It has spread to liver. He doesn't have any family history of cancer. And he is a vegetarian also and follows a very healthy diet. We are shocked how he caught up with this. Can the Gallbladder Cancer that has metastasized to liver be cured by chemotherapy? It has only metastasized to segment 7 and 8 of right lobe of liver. There were gall stones and Gallbladder is removed now. After the first chemotherapy by assessing the COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT report and CREATININE AND eGFR report doctor has said that patient is responding well to chemotherapy. Can you please explain why he has said that? Does that mean the cancer cells are reducing?
