My thoughts on Galvan Fly Reels and a review of the Rush LT 4. Quite possibly the best Disc Drag Fly Reels on the market in my opinion. Instagram @tattooed_trout_dude

thanks for the video. regarding the storing the line/tippet, you can put a rubberband around the end of the tippet and then wrap the rubberband around the base. you won't lose your tippet and it won't wrap, and sink lower as you try to dig in there to get it out. Just a "tip", no pun intended.

Great video, there is hardly any reviews on this reel apart from this! Was toying between this reel and the ross animas but after your review you've convinced me. Looking forward to watching more of your videos👍

I've got rush's and torques in saltwater sizes and both are awesome ... I use them for spey rods too ...I've been using the same two reels for the past 6 years in heavy west coast surf and saltwater conditions and just rinse them and repeat. Anyone worried that they don't have a sealed drag shouldn't be worried. I love them. I'm about to buy another one my only problem is deciding on torque or rush because they are both good.

Thank you very much for this comprehensive review. Lived in CA for a time; Galvin is true to what they manufacture.

Just bought a green 4 wt, before I watch your great informative review. Nice looking reel, looks well made and that won over the Ross Animas. Good price, good deal with lines and free shipping to Toronto. Made in U.S.A. Tight lines.

This is such a great review, thank you Dude. These reels are just perfect IMO. I am rough with my gear and they are so durable, the drag is so smooth with pleasing clicks, the styling is classic, all at a value price. Some reviews out there say the drag takes too many knob turns to reach full. I can't disagree more, I way prefer how much you can fine tune the drag, I think it's awesome. Last year I started with the R8 (blue) on an 8wt for salt water striper fishing. Loved it so much over all my other reels that I just picked up an R4 (black) on a 5 wt 9ft for medium or large stream trout fishing. Decided on the R4 after this review. At first I thought the R4 was even a bit smallish on my 5wt (and I too am not a fan of large reels), but after 2 times out fishing I absolutely agree its the perfect size for my 5wt.

I have two of their reels and love them. The ones I have are the older models with no sound at all when a fish is on. This company is an American company that employs people in a town that is mainly about tourism. Bravo to them and if you buy a reel from them, you will love it.

I am buying this exact reel after much consideration with the Animas. The deciding factor was the all metal internal, that plastic pawl and gear in the competitor is awful sounding. I steelhead so the drag sound is frequent. I’m glad it’s a great company I’m supporting too. My only gripe was the amount of backing but I have never used more than 100 anyways.

I own 2 OB-2's, 2 OB-3's an OB-4 a Rush 3 and a Rush 4 along with extra spools. You might say I'm a bit of a Galvan fanatic. I also own Sage and Lamson reels that really don't get much use. Galvan makes an excellent product that they stand behind 100%. Thanks for giving such an informative review on a sometimes overlooked reel. Tight lines!

I know that a reel for trout on a 5wt isn’t super important...but when I got my made in a America, Scott Radian, I wanted something to compliment it. The Rush LT was my choice. It’s been bullet proof, and I know it will last for my lifetime.

I agree with you, TTD. I bought the Rush 5 about 15-20 years ago and still love the reel. The drag system is the best out there. The reel has a few nicks and scratches, but after thousands of fish caught, it's still going strong and will undoubtedly last for decades. You won't find a better reel than a Galvan Fly Reel.

Been fishing the Sage 2200 Series reels, but I am going to try one of these out... Nothing wrong with Sage 2200 series , in fact one of the best drag systems I ever fished, but, I love the fact these are fully made in USA. I have a Trip Next month to Potter County PA, I will let you know what I think of it ... thanks, and great Review!

I have Rush LT 8...If I'll have to take only one reel on a island, I would take this one.....The dimensions , shapes and internal mechanics are identical with Torque, except that at some point in machining they mill that intricate spool and frame in Torque and keep Rush more classic with holes in spool...Now the flagship is Galvan Grip with sealed drag...I would like to sniff a bit inside that blue drag hub
I own a st. Croix imperial 7' 6" 4wt rod. Would be ok with the Galvan Rush light 4, or would I have to go a size lower? I do mostly trout fishing.

Is there any specialty care or anything? I should do regularly to the real like maintenance wise also for the torque, but both never owned a real like this before

Awesome review man! Is the size 4 reel suited for a 5 weight or would you go to size 5? Btw love the tats Greetings from holland
@tattooedtroutdude50846 жыл бұрын
bombingbloke I personally like to go down a size with them so for a 5wt rod I’d used the rush 4 reel. Really personal preference. Tight lines brother!

Great review. Do you use the Rush 4 on a 5 weight? I’m a tri-stater as well and think I like the size of the 4 over the 5 for my 5 weight. Don’t like the bigger size reels for trout
@tattooedtroutdude50846 жыл бұрын
Greg Wright yes I prefer to use the 4 on a five weight rod. I also prefer more traditional classic sized trout reels I’m not a fan of the huge trout reels

I agree the best reels on the market. They sent me a torque that I will soon review and make a video on. my channel has been dead for while, but will be back in full force soon.

The galvan drag systems on the Rush LT and the Torque are not the same despite what Galvan's website states. I have the Rush LT for bass and trout fishing on my 6 weight, but choose the Torque IMO for salmon fishing on an 8 weight. www.tridentflyfishing.com/blog/galvan-rush-light-fly-reel-review www.tridentflyfishing.com/blog/galvan-torque-fly-reel-review-t-5-t5-5wt
