My attempt to make a holster that would carry the theme of the EMF Gambler Royal onto a rig befitting a gambler. This is just an experimental holster I'm making to compliment the firearm it will carry. I based this rig on the pattern I purchased from Mr. Will Ghormley, the maker of the "Hand of God" rig used in the movie "3:10 to Yuma" with Russell Crowe.

Great job looks and fits really well. When I retired from the military I took classes and worked in a orthotic and prosthetic shop making artificial limbs and braces. Some of the devices had a harness to hold it on better especially if the amputation was above the knee. I never used the sewing machine's but was always amazed at the skill it took to make the harness. My job was taking a plaster cast of the stump or limb and fitting the device when compleated.. Great video well done as usual

Funny, I use a piece of marble from a kitchen re-build for stamping, too. Came out terrific, Richard. Wow!

There's a place near me that cuts counter tops and they have a pile of scraps they're happy to get rid of. It's a great surface for tooling. Thanks Santee, it ain't no "Kid Shellene " rig ,but one of these days I'll make one!

Snap! The magic of editing. Editing a video myself while watching this. Time management while waiting (and waiting) for changes to save. Beautiful holster. Lots of work put into it. I am interested to see the belt video.

I couldn't risk getting dye all over the fancy duds! Sometimes the editing takes as long as the project. I can't wait to see the belt myself! Thanks for watching Squib!

The pattern shown at minute 4:28 it's The Texadero Gunbelt Pattern by Jim Simmons, he kindly emailed to me in 2014 when I started leatherwork, anyway, outstanding leatherwork Richard, I really like the tooling!

For a gambler you should make a cross draw so he's comfortable sitting at the card table.

Have you thought about putting the holster together with the glue and only doing one or two stitches every inch to hold it together, then wet molding, then dying, then remove the temporary stitches and sew it up for real? Just a thought, that would waste the least amount of time and thread and still get everything done in the order necessary. Great video. Nice holster and belt. German shepherd hair in the holster makes it more aggressive, like painting a car red adds 15hp.
@SmallCaliberArmsReview
@SmallCaliberArmsReview 2 жыл бұрын
I worry that if I don't stitch it all the way, it could "pucker" between the stitches little bit and I'm not sure the glue will hold it tight between the stitches when it's wet. I'll try different techniques from time to time while I'm learning this leather stuff. Fiebings Pro Dye would help out a lot, it wont bleed out when it gets wet. Thanks, I just wish the German Shepherd hair was long enough to be used for something!

@SmallCaliberArmsReview Жыл бұрын
I believe I picked that spool of thread up from Amazon. I've switched to Ritza Tiger thread from Weaver Leather Supply and Tandy, it's a much better quality in my opinion.

I took many breaks during the making of the holster and I have all my regular chores around the house to do as well. The holster was split up over a couple weekends. I'd say it could be done in 2 days with the overnight drying time.

Buscadero rig and holster ? Sorry, totally a 1950s and later holster, so NOT authentic to the Old West ! Not a lot of makers do really authentic holsters, but some do. Also, NOBODY makes a gunbelt usued by many lawmen, Texas Rangers and real serious gunmen/outlaws such as Jesse and Frank James, Bill Longley, Ben Thompson etc. Most cartridge belts today only have 9,12, or 24 cartridge loops ! Whereas the James-Younger Gang, Dalton-Doolin Gang, Marshal Bill Tilghman etc. wore cartridge belts with 50 cartridge loops ! I've counted them on photos of Jesse James rig, and seen the actual Frank James rig in a museum, so I know what I'm talking about !
