I'm so glad you didn't try the spot welder on the small lithium/silver cells, I tried it once, and the battery exploded, so I don't recommend it. I'm usually not bothered much by doing stuff to batteries, but I definitely stopped soldering and spot welding those kinds of cells. I wouldn't say you have had many failures Vince, if so, you fix a lot more than you fail, and some are exceedingly difficult. I have been watching your channel for a long time, Vince, and you have become so proficient at things that used to stump you in the past. Removing chips has become second nature to you, soldering very small components and attaching wires to broken circuits, to name a few skills you have become good at. But the list is endless. Thank you for the videos Vince they inspire others to become proficient at the things you do, even though they are not copying what you do.

Well done, Vince! Those are the fixes we long for. It's such a relief to get an easy fix every once in awhile that keeps us going and keeps our spirits up. Nice trick too on collapsing the screw hole a bit to deal with the stripped bit causing the screw to fall out!

Hi Vince, nice straightforward fix. The next time you deal with such holes vs screws, fill it & drill it. Remember the super-glue and baking soda technique OR super-glue on cotton wool.

I replaced the tabbed batteries in my games with some CR1616 battery holders. I've heard about shoddy quality on some of the batteries that are available and with a holder it's even easier to replace the next time.

Having done it myself because I only had tabbed 2025s on hand, they do in fact work in Gameboy/Gameboy Color games (they'd work on Gameboy Advance cartridges, too, except you can't close the shell, while you can on these carts). Because of the higher capacity, they last longer, too!

The pin being loose is a common problem with all gameboy games, since they flex over the years.

Those loose pins are really common on Gameboy games it seems. I have no idea how it happens.

Just repaired one of these for a friend with the same issue of not booting and it ended up just being a cracked solder joint. Excited to see how this one turns out.

It's crazy how many Gameboy game issues tend to be one leg that has a bad joint and needs to be re-soldered.

I use CA glue to fix damaged screw threads. What I do is drop 1-2 drops in the hole, lightly oil the screw (I just use vegetable oil because it's what I have), and insert it into the CA glue as it hardens. The screw is able to be unscrewed when the glue is dry and the new threads hold the screw in place fine. It probably won't stand up to more than a couple of insertions and removals but it'll hold as long as you don't mess with it. I've tried with hot glue and it's just far too soft, it gets mangled by the screw immediately and doesn't hold it in place. I used this on a DMG Game Boy shell with success (should be the same type of plastic as the cartridges)

The blue Lock tight is what i use when the screws dont tighten properly it fills the gap just put a dab on the screw wait a bit then screw it in. For the batteries 2032's do fit in regular gb games but interfere with the case on gb color games but they can be offset a bit to work since those cases are clear they might not look pretty but works.

I've seen another video of someone fixing a lot of Gameboy Cartdridges. And the loose pin seem to be a common fault. So next time you have a dead Gameboy or Gameboy Advance cartdridge, check the pins of the chips.

@My Mate Vince, you can purchase replacement shells for the Game Boy cartridges, as well as labels for your games.

I can't find a proper schematic for yellow but I'm betting that corner pin on the ROM was a high address pin, if it's disconnected that would still allow the Nintendo logo to be read and maybe to get a bit past that, but would crash as soon as it tried to read game code in say the upper half of the ROM.

Hi Vince We have a problem, a BIG one! To be honest, we are both like like yourself, we buy none working stuff off E Bay. Plus also white goods that have just been thrown away in a local WEE BIN (with no reason to be dumped, other than they're a bit dirty and need cleaning, which nobody seems to want to do these days). We fully clean and service this stuff and get it back in full working, and FOOD STAFE WORKING ORDER. Trouble is, we really need to sell stuff on, through lack of space. Our spare bedroom looks like Arthur Daleys locker😏😏😏 Any help on sales advice would be welcome, although we understand the E bay takes a big slice of the profit made by each sale. 🤔🤔🤔🤔😒😒😒 Your help on this issue would be most helpful. Broken joint on the top left of that chip is superrr common, if I repair these games ever and it’s not that I almost always reflow the pins to be safe

Lose pins and connections is a common problem because of this lead free solder these days. leaded solder is much more durable in the long run

CR2025s will fit in there, indeed even CR2032s will, regardless of what it says on the board. The GBA carts can only fit CR1616s though.

hey,,, i seen a tick tok video of a diy.. use baking soda & super glue the stuff with a needle tip that sticks to everything, fill the hole with baking soda the glue will absorb into it, then drill a new hole :-) makes its better then factory 🙂

As far as i know are these loose pins a common problem just ask tronix. He has some videos of that.

Vince what is your PO BOX ADDRESS . I have a beautiful Acer Aspire 1355LC from around 2004 . It turns on but the keyboard dos'nt work and it's a new keyboard i bought for it. The dvd player is missing and no hard drive. But it's in mint condition . Be a good candidate for can you fix it video. I don't want it back you can keep it.😃

You can get after market carts for just a few dollars.

This is a common fault on these games with this board, and its always that leg on that chip that is loose.

Hello Vince, im watching you for about three years now. I have a Action replay DS Media Edition wich No longer works, there ist one Spot on the PCB thatn seems top bei faulty, whenever i Touch it and at the Same time Connect the Module via firewire to usb in my PC in Order to Connect it with the Code Manager, the PC detects it but as soon as i take my Finger from that trace , the Connection is gone. Since i opened the cartirdge even the nds of Mine wont longer detects it. Wanna give it a shot and try to repair it? I would send it over to you. Would be sincerely grateful to have it Back working If possible. Since you cannot geht them anymore, and If one of those Media Edition Pop on the Screen it unreasonably expensive.
