*We tried this out finally yesterday and it worked awesome! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s we put it on our 16 foot aluminum boat and trolled with it. We didn’t catch anything but it was still fun and worked awesome! Can’t wait to use this baby again and hopefully reel in a big ole fish! Very easy to install and set up.*

I'm doing a similar install with the same motor on the same kayak and wasn't sure how much the prop should be submerged below the surface of the water. Right now the motor extends approx 12" into the water but I haven't run it yet. Thank you

Love the rig setup! Well done. What size tank have you got installed to get an hour of use from the outboard? and is that full throttle use or trolling speed?
@OceanAddict
@OceanAddict 4 жыл бұрын
It's a 5ltr tank and I've trolled and changed locations covering 30+km in about 6 hours of continuous trolling and I barely use 1.5ltrs of fuel so I'm guessing it would last me a whole day even at full speed but I always only use the motor at 4.5knots max trolling speed when moving or changing spots, hope that helps

No I wouldn't recommend going any heavier or bigger than 2.5hp you cannot go any faster than 5knots anyway so no point... like any boat when at speed the back goes in a bit so I wouldn't recommend anything heavier or faster.... the Honda 2.3hp is best suited to kayaks

5 to 6 pumps and it fills up every 40 minutes to or so that would mean only half the tank was used till then. It does not draw air automatically because the container us below the gas tank so I have to manually pump it upwards

When you caught that big King Mackerel, what pink lure was that you were using? Do you notice that with your new motor and speed for trolling that you get more hook ups?
@OceanAddict
@OceanAddict 2 жыл бұрын
I now only fish livebait and that's the slowest I can get on the engine which is between 1 and 1.5 knots which also seems to be perfect speed to troll livebait. I used AFW kingfish 4.0 hook ready made rigs red/white and pink skurts seem to work well for me. When I troll lures I troll at 4 knots speed and only prefer Storm deep diving lures Red/Silver for most species and the Pink Storm to target Cobia. Hope that was helpful

You dont need to flush the Honda as its air cooled unlike the others that are water cooled and have water running through them... with the Honda it's been 2 years I just change the oil every season or 6 months and clean the Carburetor once a year... never been flushed just washed with fresh water every now and then to get salt off and it's as good as new

It's a Honda 2.3HP and I have extended the throttle using a regular bike clutch wire any mechanic should be able to do it along with that I've extended the kill switch so I can switch off and start from my seated position, attached a rope to the pull start... Sounds a bit confusing but very easy once it's all setup. I weigh 90kgs I have my live well full and I get 6knots at 75% throttle although I only use it at trolling speed of 4knots and get 6 hours of trolling on 2$ of gas... The gas tank holds 8$ of gas = 10 litres. Hope this helps happy to answer more

@1TruePatriot
@1TruePatriot 2 жыл бұрын
A "trolling motor" is not, by definition, electric--as you seem to believe. Before there were battery-powered trolling motors, there were gasoline-powered trolling motors, mostly 2-stroke, and many were AIR COOLED, as they were so light weight and low powered, they didn't need water cooling, and it's added cost/complexity.

Hey bro I'm setting up my pelican catch pwr 100 this winter, with my new 2.5 Suzuki outboard. I weigh 145lbs, like to fish and camp a few nites, with Different adventures I plan. What can i expect for around 3/4 to full throttle mph on my boat. Total weight with me, and all gear on boat will be approx 270lbs, that includes the boat weight. Be safe thank you..
@OceanAddict
@OceanAddict 3 жыл бұрын
Thats almost the same weight as I have on my kayak but then the PA is much heavier also depends on the Hull shape. I never got 3/4 throttle maybe if really need in rough weather otherwise I suggest going only half way where you find a sweetshop and can feel the engine is not straining. I've noticed kayaks don't go above 6knots 3/4 throttle power anyway so I always cruise at 4knots and also troll lures while I'm at it.... I fill my patrol 5ltr can for 3$ fish 6 continuous hours at say 4 to 5 knots and at the end ive only used like 10% fule = 0.5$ maybe... hope this helps

Hull speed maximum 7 to 8 km depending on weather wind and tide. Thinking to upgrade to bigger electric motor. Notice you don't carry mirage drive. No no..... I have tipped my kayak, if you ever do that with your setup. You will kill that motor. My safe bet was to install hobie sidekick AMA (outrigger). Good luck safe fishing.

Thanks for the generous comments, my mirage drive is just beside my seat I very rarely use it I also have a paddle on board, safety first, I likea quick setup as i car top the kayak and am very happy without the AMA sidekick I guess its not required, I also usually fish for big fish which circle the kayak easily so the AMA would just be in the way, the PA14 is quite stable and ive been in some rough conditions almost surfed the kayak back to shore but did not flip... fingers crossed i hope it never happens

Awesome! Sweet rig by the way sir. Im looking to do something similar, It was between the honda and yamaha. The warranty and being air cooled sold me on the honda in the end though. @OceanAddict

@@Alldayeveryday1988 yes but it's worth getting a Tiller extension to adjust the engine because sometimes it moves a bit and then steering on one side becomes difficult so with the tiller extension you centre the engine to run straight its also a backup incase the rudder line breaks you have a back up to steer or take sharp turns when needed

I have used the electric and 1050 riggers for many years. kzfaq.infoUgkxbjBedIFSQ6Y6rp8DrCC_aoWMZI8GUpmH I bought these lake trollers for my 15’ Grumman sport boat and they worked almost perfectly for fishing lake trout. The only negative is that they seemed sticky on the retrieval, so I removed the spool and greased the underside of the stainless steel plate with some lip balm (the only thing I could think to use that I had on the boat with me). Then they worked much more smoothly. I don’t recommend using these down riggers if you’re planning on fishing deeper than 50’ as you’ll spend more time cranking than you will fishing.
