The gas drop-in mount for Hobie and virtually every other pedal drive kayak system has been completed and today was the first time to test the system with the shortened drive. The cassette is the only difference in the system to be expandable to other manufacturers. The engine outperformed what I thought I could achieve using the smallest mini-4 stroke. The top speed at 75% throttle was 6.6mph and totally stable. Although not neccessary, the 50cc 4 stroke should push this close above 7.0mph easily. The 50cc would be more than adequate for heavy 100lb+ kayaks and larger paddlers.

I'm interested in your setup. What happens when you hit something? Does the shaft bend or does the motor pop out of the pod?
@kayakbuddysllc-lightweight4947
@kayakbuddysllc-lightweight4947 2 жыл бұрын
If you ground the engine you could break the mount locks and that is the occupant's error, not the fault of the drive. If you hit debris, it normally deflects, but since I have yet to experience anyone having issues I can only base this off of my experience. it is a very robust gearbox and stainless prop. You would break a shear pin before damage occurs on the drive.

Hello, I want to ask where the propeller of your motor was bought. I have a hobie outback and a motor that is exactly the same as yours, but the motor comes with a 3-blade propeller. I can’t find the double-blade for a long time. Of 😭

Southern Catches Fishing that is a modded millennium seat on aluminum bars that run across the width of the Hobie. I had to drill and add grommets to fasten through the side of the handle area.

Danny, I took the mod off due to the poor ergonomics of the Revo. It seemed to work just fine at the beginning, but I felt after sitting in it for a bit of time, it still didn't feel right. It was better for sure, just not to my liking.

It is a 4 stroke and the emissions are 95% emission free due to the catalyst and muffler that Honda has developed. If you are sitting still you may get a hint, but underway I have never felt it was an issue.

Here's the other problem with that thing. at those high speeds, if you hit something, say goodbye to your mounting area in your Hobie, it will most likely crack in that area over time anyway. Again these kayaks were not designed for that use.

oespo oespo19 you have no experience in this area. All negative and absolutely no positive ideas to offer to the kayak community. I have outfitted 100’s of kayaks and guess what, no issues, cracks, or hull destruction. Please stop being ignorant. To each is own. I laugh at people like you for the lack of learning to let people do as they please. Move on my friend. Keyboard warrior.

Way too noisy and Hobie's were NOT designed for that type of speed. Recipe for disaster there at some point. In this everyone suing everyone world be careful on selling this. It may come back to bite you guys.

oespo oespo19 remember when you outfit any craft with a motor it is the buyers responsibility to control the craft. As far as noise, the camera is a foot or so away from the engine. It is never an accurate sound account of the sound decibels and frequencies captured from the exhaust. This is why I make an electric that is faster than the gas on the light kayaks. Some people have large Hobie PA models and these can not paddled for long durations for the average owner. Gas gives options whether it is in front, on the side, or in the rear.

You must be an over protective mom... what are you saying bro, that these make noise and are a little dangerous? Obviously, your going faster and everyone knows kayaks were not built to have motors, but now they can... also your saying they might get sued? Anyone can take anyone to court, even you oespo. I for one fully appreciate the video's and options now available. I'll be ordering mine soon ;)

@@kayakbuddysllc-lightweight4947 You mentioned an electric that is faster than a gas on the light kayaks? I have an outback I would like to motorize, however most people only get around 4 mph top speed with a 30lb thrust trolling motor. What is your electric option that is faster than the gas for light kayaks?
@kayakbuddysllc-lightweight4947
@kayakbuddysllc-lightweight4947 4 жыл бұрын
J H for large kayaks gas is still the best performer. The electric is more of a an idea that works, but it just doesn’t compare to the long term use and simplicity of gas. Rear mount gas with foot controls or tiller extension. Certainly less failure points than electric.
