Was yours flashed after installed? Does it need to be? Mine is out of warranty and didn’t fall in the TSB build category. Built 02/20. Having a 4x4 shop install the cast iron box called dealer about flash and they are saying no.

did my jeep rigth after the TSB came out. night and day difference, and i was driving in a wyoming side wind lol. my dead zone went from 1.5 inches to 1/4 inch in the steering wheel.

It made a big difference in my JL. I will also say that your pull to the right could be your Toyo MTs. I had those tires for a brief period and they pulled hard right on the JL, switched to a different mud tire and went away completely. Great video, 👍

I just replaced mine at home. For all the diy people: Before you install the new steering box remember to recenter it. KZfaq "how to recenter steering gearbox" it's very easy. Presoak your pitman arm to sector shaft with penetrating oil a day before removal. This will make it WAY MUCH EASIER to remove. The JL pitman arm is really wide. A common $12 pitman arm remover WILL NOT FIT over the pitman arm. Make sure you get the right one. If you already have a sector shaft brace from Synergy. It should come with four equal length steel bolts. You set these bolts aside because with the Aluminum box you had to reuse the OEM bolts. You will also need to reuse the Sector shaft brace pitman arm nut. Therefore buying a new TSB kit from Mopar is not necessary. As you will be paying over $70 for hardware you will not be using. Buy a good used steel gearbox from ebay or your local Junkyard. The serial numbers are: Steering Gear for Jeep Wrangler 2018-2021 Four Door LHD 68507569AA Or a newer model 68507569AB 1 qt of Mopar Electronic Steering Fluid is enough. Having someone else help you align the steering gear box to frame holes while you insert the four bolts is the way to go, I did it myself and it sucks (and I can overhead press 250lbs). Good luck!

I had my gladiator steering box switched out a few weeks ago. Very big improvement!

Just picked our custom ordered JLURD up Tuesday. Very glad it had the cast iron/steel box from the factory.

Do it, had mine done early on. They tried to say they had to test it first, i pushed some more considering it took way too many steering corrections driving down the road, when it was hot out even worse. Needs to be a full blown recall for all JL and JTs. Now if they could just fix the broken door weld clicking

I traded my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL within a short period of time for a Jeep Grand Cherokee, because of the steering issue. I've recently bought a 2021 Sahara altitude and it drives straight and true because of the steel steering box. It's good to be back in a JL Wrangler.

I could tell the difference from the moment I drove off the dealer lot after getting the new steel box.

I read the TSB on this and saw this. Vehicles that have professionally installed lift kits, that are within the limits of the service wheel alignment specifications, are eligible for the repair described in this TSB. However, if the vehicle has been lifted or modified beyond the limits of the service wheel alignment specifications, this TSB is not likely to address the customer’s concern of wander, leads and pulls. I had a 2.5" lift professionally installed with 35" tires on my 2020 Wrangler Rubicon. It doesn't pull or lead much, I just assumed that it was a common issue with any lifted vehicle.

Just had my JT done Tuesday, huge improvement, very happy with it.

Mine is being installed as I type this. I’m glad to see a fix for this and I’m excited to see how it drives with it installed.

New box is on the way, glad I found this I'm 8 months from being out of warranty and I'm tired of fighting the wheel.

Hey Matt you mentioned "Aluminum" bolts mounting the factory JL Gearbox in your video. I thought you just might have miss spoke but you called them Aluminum at least 3 times. You would unlikely find any aluminum bolts honestly anywhere. Much less on an application requiring the high torque specs of a Steering Gearbox. Aluminum would probably twist and break at maybe 20Ft/Lbs. The bolts are steel with a corrosion plating to help prevent rust. Just because its silver doesn't mean its Aluminum. The issue isnt the bolts and honestly you would probably get more reliable service out of the factory JL ones than the steel ones with the black paint especially if you are in a salty/snowy environment. Hope this helps.....chasing Steering Gremlins on my JK myself.

I finally got my dealership to replace the steering box according to the TSB, only my luck new steering box apparently did not come in assembled properly. Now their mechanics have already spent a full day trying to reassemble the new box properly. Really hoping they know how to fix the new box and I don’t end up having a safety issue. Today is Day 2, let’s see if its finally ready…

You are getting a bit of deflection but the real problem is they can't adjust the aluminum worm drive gear as close as a steel one because it'll wear more rapidly. Thus the 1 1/2 inch to 2 inch blank space you can turn the steering wheel before you get any response in your tires.

Just an FYI... the fix works, my so cal dealer made more painful than it need to be, hugely disappointed in Jeep

My 2020 Gladiator has a dealer installed 2 inch lift with 35s and has progressively gotten worse to the point in which I can barely drive it. The local dealership, Marshall CDJR in crittenden Kentucky refused to perform the TSB blaming the lift kit and tires. I've had several Jeeps and none had tons of play in the steering. You can turn the wheel several inches without the wheels turning.

Hey there...you know that a TSB is NOT a "recall" right? The issue should be a recall however. FCA won't replace mine, as I am past the warranty milage, even though the steering box issue was there right from the get go. Not good.

Having this TSB done was one of the best things that I've done to my JT so far. I had intense wandering and a large dead spot prior to. This fixed at least a good 90% of that. Thanks for putting this video together. It's good to see what went in to the process, and I think if I were on the fence about having it done this would seal the deal.

This is a common issue with all jk, jl, gladiator... it’s a “Jeep” 😂 owned them all my life! Chrysler will just rip the old bandage off and stick a new one on... I’m on my 3rd and it’s great for first couple months then turns into same old log wagon! Wife won’t drive it cause she feels it’s dangerous! 😳 wait till your track bar bracket breaks... that’s a fun one also! 🥳 bring on the new bronco! At least it has rack n pinion steering 👍🏻

I had my 2020 Jeep Gladiator rubicon steering box replaced and it fixed the steering. The steel steering box is great. Covered under my Jeep warranty.

Had mine done a couple of weeks ago and it made a huge difference. Have to agree with Adam below, I could feel the difference just pulling out of the parking lot. I did have to go back and have them replace the bolts which I noticed were not on the work order but were specifically called out in the TSB as needing to be replace. Easy to spot as the new bolts are black and two of the old ones are about 3 inches too long and stick out way past the mounting holes TSB # 08-074-20 PARTS REQUIRED: Qty. It's a damn shame Jeep would release a vehicle with steering problems. You would think this would have already been taken care of. I don't understand how Ford, Toyota and other SUV's have never had steering issues. Last week I had the steering box updated in my 2018 Jeep JL Rubicon that I spent over $55k on and I can't tell the difference. I had the Mopar 2" lift added three years ago, which included a FOX steering stabilizer. They replaced it when they added the new steel steering box. I can't tell the difference. Steering wheel feels extremely light to turn. Not sure if it's supposed to be like that. I have a BMW 328i with a stiff steering wheel and it's beautiful for driving and turns. Then I get in the Jeep and wow what a damn difference...like I'm trying to steer a sailboat in rough seas.

It is such a diff ppl r starting to wonder if other cars/suvs can go solid axle to little if no penalty refined system & prts at the ready.

I had a 2018 JLU Sport and the steering was absolutely horrible. I recently traded it for a 2021 Rubicon, which comes with the new steering box. The difference is like night and day.

Not aluminum bolts....those are steel nut inserts on the aluminum steering box and steel bolts thread into them, I couldn't tell what grade bolts in the video, but most likely a Grade 12 bolt, the shorter ones could be a Grade 8.8, that would/could account for the difference in color. I have a 2018 JLU, I've had no problems with the steering, and I'm running 37s. Maybe I got lucky, I'm still on the original windshield too.

I had mine done a year ago… still terrible. Currently have my gladiator at the dealership right now for a second steering box replacement. You seem to still have a little bit of play, not anything like I have but still a little.

Good luck JL owners. Called my dealership and they said no, they'll replace the steering dampener but not the gearbox unless I pay for it myself at $987.40. Out of warranty on my JL by two months even though I only have 17K miles on it.

I'm so confused with this steering issue. I had a 2021 Gladiator, built in 12/20, so it already had the new steering box on it. The jeep wandered so badly it was very hard to keep between the lines on the highway. It was exhausting on long trips. I had the dealer replace the steering damper and the steering box and nothing improved. It was so bad I sold it and bought a Chevrolet Colorado. I have the itch for another Gladiator but I am scared to death that the steering issue hasn't been addressed. I plan on test driving a couple of Gladiators this week and I pray that the steering has improved, greatly. I fear that my quest for another jeep will cause me to be bias and subconsciously ignore any steering problem and I will convince myself that the steering issue is no longer a problem, and then after a few days and a few hundred miles I will realize the steering still sucks. I hope the 2022 is better as I really would like another Gladiator.

Wow! Finally. Too bad they didn’t take care of this in 2018, 2019, 2020... I wanted a JL since their release. After test driving multiple Wranglers... and I even rented a Wrangler for a week as an extended test drive.. I could take the steering. Unfortunately, with the Bronco almost here.... I’ll be waiting for a Bronco.

Just got the steering box changed on my 2020. No more wander and steering wheel feels tighter when turning. A definite plus for me. I was comparing parts required from TSB 08 003 021 new TSB number I guess. TSB (Jan 9, 2021) states Gear, steering 685 075 569 AA my invoice from the dealer is 685 075 569 AB. So I guess there is another updated TSB? So back in the shop Monday. Track bar had to be ordered and software will be applied. I have little confidence that the work at the dealership was performed properly.

Can you add a part number for this gear box? Dealers don't know anything.

CJ Off Road - did this help the "Play" in the wheel while driving? I have about 2 inches I can turn my wheel before it starts to move, thus pretty constant movement of the steering wheel while driving. However in an effort to fix that, I've not put the Teraflex control lower arms, and the Teraflex adjustable steering stablizer, Plus alignment. All that "AFTER" having the dealership change out the steering box. I do have a 2 inch lift and 37's. just wondering what you or anyone thinks should be a fix to stop this after all the items currently done to it?

It’s not a recall. It’s a TSB. Big difference. Also the long silver bolts are NOT aluminum. The slop comes from the different metals expanding and contracting under temp. Also check the torque on all the bolts after about 250 miles

My 2021 JT has the steel one...but I'm still getting wandering. One thing I noticed my steel box is 68507576AA...but there's actually a newer 68507576AB now. I wonder if the AB would be the solution to my wandering. My damper, and track bar are both the newest versions...what else could be causing the wandering?

I still need my double firewall w/ some kind of fireproof filler, but steering problem I am ck-ing that off hr, lots of ppl working problem jeep zero max miss 2011 till 2020 but 2021 they disobeyed & instead of using Ram steering box like I said bc needed if running big tires they put in new steal non Ram tuff steering unit. & this is why I hve to kill off the rebellious race. Unfixable no matter time my money many ppl effort All wanting same thing they take it in the ditch.

I just ordered and bought my first ever Jeep. It is a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. So far I totally love almost everything that there is about my Jeep. With my 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, would it still need to possibly have this TSB/Recall done to it, or would that of already had everything done to it at the factory, when it was originally being built brand new? Since my Jeep was made after the TSB/Recall came out and was put into place by FCA/Jeep, before my Jeep was ever even built, that made me pretty curious and wonder if every single Jeep JL Wrangler being built as of right now, and post TSB/Recall would have this specific TSB/Recall already done to them when they were being built brand new at the Jeep factory? Or would this specific TSB/Recall still need to be done only on any Jeep’s that were built brand new at the factory, after the TSB/Recall was put out, but then, would only apply and/or need to be done afterwards, if the specific, and individual Jeep in general, started experiencing issues that were directly related to this new TSB/Recall? Then, only those very specific and individual JL Jeep Wranglers would need to have this TSB/Recall done to them, only then, after those issues started happening?

Any tips on how to get it done? I just had oil change & tires rotated. Guy played dumb about TSB, said I had to set appt for them to check it. I told him it wanders on highway
