The Edna Battle theme is next in line in our series of Bravely Default 2 music videos. After my video on the final boss theme, a few of you requested Edna theme, and I'm glad you did because it was a lot of fun to explore the depth and tragedy of this theme and its context in relation to Adelle.

I'm glad you guys suggested this one. There were some things about it that I had not noticed in my playthrough! And hey, This is my third video reacting to BD2 music. You can watch the other two vids over here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNiUqpli3bzeiYU.html

I'm Japanese so I'm sorry if my English is wrong. Your video is very easy to watch because the commentary is polite. Especially, it is very helpful to show the melody you are referring to. I'm a fan of Revo, but I don't have much knowledge of music, so the professional approach is really interesting. I also watched other Bravely Default videos. Thank you for the wonderful video.

5:59 That part *also* happens to be the climax of “Wicked Battle” (the pre/pre-final boss music from the first Bravely Default). It’s also a fairly by-the-numbers variation of the Pachelbel’s Canon chord progression - which is very much in keeping with the composer’s tendency to take influence from baroque era pieces (indeed, if you want an ever MORE baroque-sounding song from the same composer, go listen to “Wicked Flight” from BD1 ;-) ) 6:21 …which itself borrows from the intro of Flashdance’s “What a Feeling”. Nope, I’m not kidding; just go listen for yourself and you’ll see what I mean

so is "The Dark Puppet ~ Wisdom Fallen to Darkness", which is so damn cool. By the way, Revo composed one piece named "Baroque" in his early Sound Horizon 4th album XD

Battle Against the Ones We Inevitably Confront was the first song in BD2 that really caught my attention, but I think Edna's them (and I have to include the title because like all of the BD2 titles it's art in motion) Spurned into Flight, Drenched, and Fallen - The Night Rises was the first song that made me go "FUCK YES" Adelle's theme was already my favorite, so when I heard her theme at the start of Edna's, it was a magical moment. And when Wicked Flight shows up as a callback to Airy and Anna, it takes an A+ song and makes it S tier, IMO. If you are looking for other songs to look over, aside from the obvious four main themes, I think The Ones We Inevitably Fight and the accompanying song Battle Against The Ones We Inevitably Confront are at the top of my list :D I didn't even realize the former existed, but having heard it, I think it may be one of my favorite tracks on the entire OST.

You did an amazing work as always! I like your explanations of the technical parts of the music, but also like explanations the "emotional parts" that is considering contexts in the storylines of the game. That's an important thing especially for RPG's music. I like the breathless vibes in this gorgeous theme. The reference to Wicked Flight gave me goosebumps. I'm impressed by Revo's thoughtful arrangements .He's an amazing storyteller. Thank you for always posting insightful reaction videos, Davi!

Another fantastic boss battle theme. Loving the music from BD2. I really love the use of the harpsichord in this song, it brings a kind of melancholic gothic sound to the song. And the guitar coming in over the top later really brings it up a level. Loving these, thank you Davi!

Oi Davi. This music definitely depicts the chaos of battle. I can almost hear echoes of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor running through the melody. Another very interesting analytical video this week. Thanks Davi :)

I honestly love how to review the music. Typically when someone stops the music to describe something and analyze it, it usually ticks me off and stop watching. But the way you incorporate references to other music Revo did makes it worth while to keep watching imho. Thanks for the wonderful analysis video

I know I've already left a comment here, but I've just recently got the soundtrack on CD so I could finally blast my ears with good speakers and enjoy the goodness. And I was really surprised how many more tidbits you can notice when u can, well, hear the music well. There's something I noticed that kinda blew my mind, and which surprised me I didn't notice earlier, so I hope you dont mind me rambling that thought. But I did notice that Adelle's theme has a different time signature than the other three's have (I think it's 3/4?). So, since most fairy related themes are based on Adelle's melody, they all have that time signature. In the fight against the Nexus at the Fountain of Knowledge, in its first phase, it has both 3/4 and 4/4 (or 2/4?) time signatures, singalising how a human/non fairy has tampered with fairy find. I just found this little inclusion so impressive, Revo is so good at musical storytelling, it blows my mind everytime.

The reference to BD1 I think was itself a reference to the Undersea Shrine (and also the final dungeon) track from the original Final Fantasy. I could be crazy but it sounds almost exactly the same. It threw me off when I first heard it and thought "Why am I suddenly remembering something from 25 years ago?"

I would love to do more videos on BD and I certainly will at some point. I'm just burned out on it at the moment since Revo's record labels always give me a super hard time whenever I post their music. This exact video was pulled out from KZfaq for a month and it was a pain in the butt to get it back up. It's a shame, BD music is very important to me and I love it.

Ive been following your channel for a while and I’d really appreciate if you could answer a few questions. I’ve been trying to get into the business of video game composing and I’m wondering how important a degree in music or composition is for getting noticed. I’m heading off to college soon and I’m wondering if I should get a degree in composition or theory over something more solid. If a degree in music doesn’t matter all that much for getting work as a freelancer, I’m better off majoring in business, psychology or something else. As someone in the composing business, do you have any insights?
@DaviVasc
@DaviVasc 3 жыл бұрын
Degrees don't matter at all. If your goal is only to compose music for games a music degree is a waste of time, unless you don't know music and need to learn first, but even then, there are more efficient ways to learn. I've been doing this full time for 4 years and I've never encoutered a gig that required a degree. Hell, no one ever even asked if I have a degree or not (I don't). People just don't care. What matters is skills, past experience and relationships.
