Ever felt overwhelmed by the vast world of video game genres? Join me as I dive deep into my gaming library to redefine and organize games like never before. In this episode, I unveil a new tagging system, making genre classification not just a task, but an adventure. Discover how action, adventure, RPG, and more are being reinterpreted through my lens. Whether you're a hardcore gamer or just getting started, this vlog is your ticket to understanding the dynamic world of video games. Don't forget to hit the like button, subscribe, and ring that bell for weekly gaming insights!
Join me as I meticulously sort through shelves of games, from classic retro gems to the latest releases. I’ll share insights into how I organize my collection into a comprehensive spreadsheet, making it easier to track what I've played and what's still on the horizon.
Why do this? Well, with a collection as vast as mine, it's easy to lose track of the treasures I have. This cataloguing process is crucial in helping me plan my gaming sessions and ensure that no game goes unplayed.
Expect tips on organizing your own collection, some nostalgia as I rediscover forgotten titles, and a peek into the life of a dedicated gamer tackling an epic challenge.
Whether you're a fellow gamer, a collector, or just love a good organizational challenge, this vlog is for you! So, grab your favorite snack, get comfy, and let's dive into the world of video game cataloguing!

I think most large, complex, evolving systems are a poor fit for a strict hierarchy. Art/games are especially tricky because the practitioners are often *purposely* blending/combining/hybridizing genres, defying genre norms/subverting them, inventing new ones, etc. A looser tag-based model seems a better fit, where a game can have multiple tags to describe their core pillars.

you bring up good points! I'm still trying to figure out an easy way to do multiple tags in a single cell xD

It does kinda feel like genres can be divided into story/mechanics/style. This is also the hardest part of my spreadsheeting, cause there's tags like 'pixel art' which is a very different way to describe something than 'sci fi' or 'roguelite' - but also a lot of my favorite games are indies with 'interface' mechanics (like Orwell) or genre mixes like 'cybernoir' or hard-to-describe genres/mechanics like... whatever Immortality is? I think soooo many games fall into many categories, it's why steam etc. use multiple tags instead of just 'genre'

cybernoir sounds like a really cool genre! I'm going to have to look that one up now. any game suggestions?

@@OffBrandSpen Red Strings Club i would consider cybernoir, Dry Drowning, Lacuna, Chinatown Detective Agency, Keyword Spider's Thread, and then for more of those 'interface' mechanic games, stuff like Orwell/it's sequel, Song of Farca, and Cyber Manhunt all fit in there. I just like investigation games with a techy setting I guess xD In terms of the ones I've actually played all the way *through* though, there's fewer 😅 Song of Farca and Orwell are both on there, and then I've been meaning to go back to Dry Drowning and Red Strings Club, and Lacuna, Keyword, and Chinatown were all wishlisted after really enjoying the demos. For now though I'm playing actual Cyberpunk cause I got it for christmas since it never dropped below my $28 budget for big games ahaha (though I did pause during nextfest to play a ton of demos and update my wishlist)

Finding specific games too is such a pain like i look at sci fi and the KIND of scifi i want isnt really shown, but say anything thats even somewhat close to futuristic is on there (mostly popular firstly)

the cyberpunk DLC was so good! Is alpha genesis the one where 4 people play the soldiers and one person plays the infestation?

@OffBrandSpen it's more like uhh you manage your whole ship flying through thr solar systems avoiding danger, creating clones and weapons to defend your flying base from infections and eveything all till you find that ONE planet you're able to colonize called the Genesis There's a lot that could be said abt the game too much for one comment lol
