I think I stopped watching after skyward sword, because I realised most of arin's complaints with videogames can be attributed to him not paying any attention to it or the fact that he just sucks at videogames.

Update 4/4/2020. It's like if they beat a dead horse with another dead horse inside a factory full of dead horses. That's the state of Game Grumps now. They get only 100k-500k views per video when they have 5.2 million subscribers. Also, their 3rd most viewed episode (non-animation) is the one featuring Chris, Ding Dong, and Julian in Simpsons Hit & Run.

Finishing this after supermega left. I used to love GG, specifically Dan, but I can totally see burnout happening.

I actually really liked the older Just Arin episodes. They gave a nice in depth view of Arin’s past when he was actually Egoraptor.

I think Arin is outgrowing GG and it's finally showing. He's 32 and have been doing the same thing for years now. Even Jon is going into a general comedian instead of a gaming channel. He hasn't talked about or reviewed video games in some time... GG used to be good, but they need to refocus, maybe take some time off to reformat to something new. 6.5 years without switching up your format is a *long time* . I wish them luck but a big change up is needed.

I realized it the moment I decided to check back in on them after a while, only to hear Arin unironically admit to loving Sonic. The magic was gone.

Honestly, I left after the Sonic and the Black Knight walkthrough. Not to sound like a pissy Sonic fan, but it was painful watching a grown man scream at a game he deliberately didn't bother trying to pay attention to the tutorials for, and then turn around and say the game was crap. I beat the game in two to three weeks when I was 14, and even managed to shave down my Merlina boss fight time to about a minute and thirty seconds afterwards. It's a children's game. It's also clear that Arin doesn't really like Sonic games; even in one of his GG episodes with Jon he stated how he hates both SA1 and SA2. I'd much rather him not play the games if he doesn't like them than do what he did. Now they're doing an SA2 walkthrough and I'm sticking with Oneyplays (They make fun of the game but they love it, and they actually get really into it). I miss the Jon and Arin dynamic where Jon could counter and even call Arin out sometimes, or when Jon engaged Arin to focus less on griping about the game and more on something else.

Two years later the Game Grumps are still fine but if Danny ever left it would probably be over. I know I wouldn’t continue watching.

Arin is like Sega with the Sega Genesis trying to extend the life spand of something that was once great.

I’m a avid supporter of dumb humor and even I gotta agree they are going under.

They've managed to keep it afloat for 3 1/2 years after this video so I guess Arin knows how to keep a dying thing from becoming all the way dead.

As I do agree with the points you made in this video and the last video, but I can't help the feeling that you're gloating about Game Grumps channel dying. I'm not even a fan of that channel, but I ain't happy to see him fall. He's not a bad guy, I don't understand why you want to see him fall off. He's been making videos since 2007, he can't keep fuckin going forever.

Honestly, I feel like this is the whole let's play community in general, and not just Game Grumps. The whole genre has been on it's last legs for a while, and big time creators in the community (Markiplier, GG, jacksepticeye, Pewdiepie, etc) are creating other types of videos or moved on to other things because they saw the YT algorithm on the wall and see that Let's play videos won't be bringing in much viewership nowadays. So I can really understand why GG is now what it is, even though personally must of their stuff now just doesn't really interest me. Now that running your own channel (especially when you can make a living off of it) is a business in of itself, dedicated fanbases just aren't profitable with the exception of channels are able to continually engage with their fanbases, very niche YT genres, or in the case of Vanoss and other channels, being able to make vids of friends having fun and mostly screwing eachother over.

Being someone who voiced his strong disagreement with your previous Game Grumps. I have to admit the way you compose yourself in terms of your arguments and how you got them across was way better. The last video really muddled the waters in terms of what you were trying to get across. And in my personal opinion felt like you may have had a vendetta against Arin Hanson. But was the video was framed as a critique of their content. Again I really think this video was more well put together than the last one. So great job looking forward to what you make next.

I mean, I gotta say, sometimes their stuff doesn't hit as much as it used to, but I still really like their power hours, and some of the let's plays are very funny, and all the animations are cool. So I guess they still provide good content, but time changes people, and just like how the avengers came to an end recently, I guess GG will also come to an end. I will miss them so much.

I’m gonna be honest, I used to be one of their biggest fans until last year. I don’t know why but I actually forgot about them after that. Then coming back to their new stuff today, it’s very bland a guess? Not terrible, but painfully average. Not what I expected from the people I used to idolize as some of the funniest people on KZfaq. All of the group members I loved are gone. Dan and Arin seem stuck in a weird ground where they reuse old jokes old fans love or do something again, average. It’s kinda sad to watch in the moment your old inspirations slowly crash and burn. I wanna stick around for them, but at the same time there’s no reason for me to other than nostalgia and just the fact that if I unsub I’ll feel bad. I wanted to meet them one day at a con or something. I wanted to tell Arin how much I look up to his humor and art. And now?? I just don’t think I want any of that. And that’s kinda depressing

Ever since they showed me oneyplays I never looked back. My love for oney and the boys started with the basic fact oney is Irish like me, then it turned into a real love.

I will be honest, I mainly watch Game Grumps solely for Dan and the game itself.

Look at channels like Supermega and Oneyplays: they talk about things other than the game, and try new things in their commentary to give a series some flavor. All of the hosts also have a distinct personality- oney was a can of worms, dingdong was sarcastic and critical, and Julian was the fetishy friendly punching bag. Hypotheticals and critique of gaming culture were huge staples of the channel, but they never boxed themselves in to a persona or idea for a series. It genuinely felt like they were having fun. Game grumps is mostly just observational humor, mixed with running jokes or crude humor. They don't really make any attempts to break the lets play mold, and they don't have any stories from their lives to fall back on. Some of the funniest moments from both new and old (jon) grumps was when they would talk about things that weren't happening on screen, or extrapolate them enough that it seemed entirely original (pumbloom, nickelodeon guts, etc). It feels like theyve mostly lost that creative energy to create new scenarios out of what they are looking at, though. Possibly due to burnout. They also run their good jokes into the ground, using them for way longer than they need to. Maybe they need to look for a new type of joke to create from their observations, with a different tone to distinguish itself from "wacky", so that they don't feel like they are telling the same jokes over and over again and can enjoy themselves. I feel like that's the main thing missing right now: they aren't trying to enjoy what they are doing for themselves. Arin ranting on twitter shows just how disillusioned he is with wanting to continue game grumps as a 'successful business', forgetting what got him to where he is in the first place, as well as his own enjoyment. That's a definite sign that the person in question needs to take a break from their work and re evaluate their reason for doing it. When you no longer enjoy something you were so passionate about before, you need to step back and ask yourself if you still want to head in that direction, and how you can progress personally- not just practically. It's not that Game grumps in its current state is dead. They have an audience, but the audience is waiting for them to do something new and enjoyable. Shovel ware isn't going to attract the attention of their core audience. That's who you need to appeal to to be successful. Just look at Jon: he's only become more popular, because the fans that have stuck with him have been rewarded by getting to see him grow and change (alongside new fans). He has access to so many new tools and props that it's like I'm looking at a completely different channel. But he always does enough to change up the formula that even if I don't enjoy all of his bits, I am satisfied with the video because I can respect how much he cares for his viewers. Game grumps, on the other hand, feels like the care is put towards growing as a business and merchandising. I don't want to spend the 30 minutes I have before work listening to drivel that was spat out to make a profit. I want to listen to something with character and heart. A couple of friends having a good time, not something as mechanical as 'I have to make jokes and fill the void of silence even if it's mediocre'. Let there be times of silence if you feel like you have nothing thats worth saying. Like a real conversation. And put your focus back towards the entertainment aspect of your entertainment "company", or people will take notice. Would Arin himself be entertained by the episodes hes producing? If not, why publish them? These are the things our current grumps need to be thinking about to recapture their audience.

I don't know man... I have some reservations here and there with Arin but I can't help but feel that labeling him as egotistical or mean or whatever is just kind of wrong. He definitely makes mistakes but I do feel that he's trying his best, even if the fans don't always feel that way. As for Dan, Dan just is having fun. That's why I like him. It's hard for me to see them as this horrible brand when both are geniunely creative and talented people who clearly are just trying to have fun and please their fans. They DO care, and they DO enjoy themselves in their work, and as a result I enjoy their work too. As for the argument that Jon was better? Sorry, I just can't agree. It's so hypocritical to me for people to say that now Game Grumps is the same thing over and over and then turn around and praise Jon. He literally just mumbled and screamed intermittently and rarely told stories I actually found entertaining. Don't get me wrong, JonTron is one of the best comedians KZfaq has ever had. I just don't feel that making jokes and being entertaining on the spot were his strong suits. In a way, it sort of reminds me of Cinemassacre. The new AVGN videos aren't quite a memorable as the old ones, and Mike can be a problematic business partner. However, I can feel so much passion and fun coming from James that I just want to keep watching whatever he produces. Game Grumps isn't what they used to be, sure, but that's just natural with a brand. I think Arin is hurt by videos like these and comments you see below this one, and that leads him to say some dumb things. I think Danny just avoids the negativity altogether and tries to just enjoy himself, and that makes people think he doesn't care. I don't think people are actually trying to be understanding or appreciative here but are instead focusing on the negatives or shaking their canes and yelling "Jon was better back in my day!" Is that really fair to anyone? Can't we just stop the name calling and the comparisons and try to communicate rationally with the people over at GG so they know what we like and dislike? Feel free to disagree though. Chances are that you will, if you clicked on this video. I just wanted to share my piece.

As someone who’s been a long time lover of the grumps, I agree with what you said, recently I’ve been worried about this change in content. I do miss the old content (game series for more than ten episodes, grumpout, and stuff that doesn’t feel like an algorithm) but I do still love and support them and in no way want to bash them for trying something to stay afloat. I hope they realize the happiness quality content gives me and the other 5 million subscribers.

I agree with everything else but I actually like the solo Arin and solo Dan episodes. They are very chill and nostalgic.

I still watch Game Grumps, but you have some valid points. One thing that perpetually bothers me is how often they’ll have an episode of a game and it will even get more views than a normal video and the comments will practically beg for it to continue and they never return to it. They have an editing team (despite never cutting a single second out of any of their episodes, I can’t think of any other let’s player that does as little editing as they do) so they could easily play several episodes worth at a time of any game that’s not a demo and not have to worry about the editing and upload say 5 episodes of that game over a week and if there’s a rapid decline in views by episode 5 then quit the series, but making one episode of an interesting game and then never coming back to it (or even worse, coming back a month later when they’ve forgotten what the game is about and most fans have forgotten about it) is just super aggravating as a viewer. Also, it’s weird that this video is 4 years old and they have the still have the same 5.2 million subscribers.

Well, while everyone can agree with you on at least some points, making it sound like GG will die in a couple of days/weeks is highly overdramatic. I mean, just look at at channels like DSP. A channel that never was and never will be as popular as GG. Everyone called that channel dead/dying years ago and he's still here with shitty content and his shitty attitute. I have been legit thinking about this, the "comedy" lately has been extremely forced, I got actually excited for the new twilight princess playthrough then Dan, my favorite one, kept doing that"funny" my bloody Valentine's joke which didn't land once for me and he did it several times, I eventually got tired of it and shut it off..... I was a die hard grumps fan since the beginning, and now I honestly don't look forward to seeing what they are up to next. Also I feel like the game grumps expanded too far in such a short time. Grumps went from this cool gang of personalities who loved to create, to a company that needs money to keep afloat. They hit gold and immediately started expanding, but they didn't evolve so are now stagnating as a result. The grumps are funny, and I wish them all the best but... They feel so empty now

Game Grumps is not on its last legs. Game grumps has been dragging itself for years now.

You were not "agressive" at all in your last video. You made some good points with some subtle jokes, sprinkled on top of a wicked roast. It's not your fault if the tween army that watches Game Grumps can't listen to criticism.

I do love and support the grumps, I've been watching since 2014 when they played Shadow The Hedgehog, and I've watched almost everything they uploaded (i've probably skipped less than 15 videos out of all the ones they've uploaded in that time), but even I have to agree with this. There's just nothing to get excited about anymore. They play shovelware Wii games or similarly bland games with little longevity most of the time, they never continue any series' in video format anymore (it's all streams that are difficult to sit down and watch due to how long they are, like damn man i can set aside 15 minutes a day to watch you shit on zelda but 2-3 hours??? Nah, not happening), and shit even the Power Hour is losing it's edge, it's just 10 minute videos of them playing shitty board games for kids, and the whole joke is just "haha this game bad". And if it's not that it's often just "Danny and Arin attempt a craft but they just make a mess and Arin yells a lot". I miss 2015-16 grumps. With Ross, and Suzy, and Barry, as well as Dan and Arin. There was so much good content uploaded on the regular back then and it breaks my heart seeing this channel slowly die. They used to upload content that was for the viewers, now it feels like it's specially crafted to get the maximum amount of ad revenue that it can with little attention paid to how enjoyable it is. I understand it's largely because KZfaq has changed massively over the years, and so has GG, they're a big company now with a lot of employees compared to their original crew, and it's just not sustainable anymore for them to upload how they used to. It really does feel like a husk of the channel it once was.

Not trying to fanboy here but wanted to give me view. When it comes to the longer series they've both stated they missed doing them but when it comes down to it the longer the game went the less people watched. It's part of the reason they started doing streams. As for the jokes of the episodes, even doing a job you love, things will get stale. Hence the 10 minute power hour and again the streams. As for the dk song that was a brain child of Brian that he came up with years ago. An weather anyone finds it funny or not doesn't matter all to much since its more or less on the album because Brian's daughter loves it so much. Now the $100 pin... That's a little much but at the same time people can do what i did an say "thats pretty cool" then not buy it. The solo episodes i feel come from dan being out of town and still needing content. And anyone who knows about arins voice acting, he enjoys it and is extremely proud of it. So he had an idea, im sure he knew not everyone would be into, and went for it. All in all for every person that stops watching because of the way they are doing things there's gonna be someone subbing because of the new content. Just like with music an t.v. shows as time goes, things change. You may not like it. Doesn't mean someone else wont.

Speaking as someone who was stoked the day the channel was originally announced, yeah, I can agree. I don't remember the last time I actually was invested in Game Grumps. I fell off the (Steam) train (heh) about 4-5 years ago, and kind of migrated over to the Best Friends Zaibatsu (RIP). I've always admired Arin, mind. Was a fan of him going all the way back to the days of the Awesome series (christ that was like 12 years ago, maybe even older). But I think it's time for him to give up the ghost, brainstorm what *has* worked for the channel, and then go in that direction.

Man, I've been watching the Grumps since day 1, and I must say...It really truly is sad to see this channel fall far from grace. I feel like they're trying to recapture the days when they would play shitty Wii games and Wii gameshow games as of late. I really hope Arin saves his channel and gets his shit together cause honestly, I love the guy and I used to really like everything he did. I do however enjoy their old stuff like the punchout series, both of them actually. You made some good points here, man.
