WARNING, MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR GoT 8x5.
A quick edit of how I (and seemingly many others) would have personally preferred the Dany snapping scene go. I feel like her destroying the Red Keep after the Lannister army surrendered would have been shocking enough and made her scary without being too over the top and unbelievable for her character. There would still be civilian casualties, but she wouldn't be deliberately massacring them by the tens of thousands for no reason. Maybe she could even do a few strafing runs of fire on her way to the Keep, like she does in the show. But she would not meticulously burn the whole city down, in a seemingly endless rage (you'd think she'd get her anger out after burning a couple of thousand civilians?)
To be clear as some people seem confused: I have nothing against the idea of Dany becoming Mad Queen and killing innocents as a concept. Honestly I was kind of looking forward to it. I'm sure George would do it well in his books (if he ever finishes them, which I honestly doubt at this point) and even D&D could have done it just fine, had they not rushed the show in the last seasons. The intention of the story is good, and the potential of that "messiah turns into a monster" story is great. And yes, Dany's arc has clearly shown her become more and more ruthless over the seasons, so there has been a slow build to this.
What I do have a problem with is how the conclusion of that arc was executed. It felt like they had done steps 1 to 6 carefully and then skipped over 7 and 8 to rush 9 and 10. And when it's as big of a character development as this, you just can't rush it. It's why all the bad shit someone like Walter White does in the show Breaking Bad still feels believable, as we always understand his reasons and see how he slowly got to that point, even if we might disagree with his actions. This just wasn't the case with Dany.
And honestly, this scene was just the boiling point for a show riddled with bad writing in its later seasons. It is not the reason I hate Season 8. It's just a scene with a cool idea done poorly, surrounded by mountains of shit. And the only reason I made this video is because it was something quick and easy to do.
As a final note: If you liked how the last season was done, that's fine. This is just my opinion.
