For nearly a decade, every single season, we get reminded that winter is coming, the long night is coming and that the lords of westeros are oblivious to the real threat, which is the NK and his undead army. The elite care only about their social status, ignoring the real threat. So the message they gave us was loud and clear: The conquest for power that so many characters aim for causes death and destruction and is a waste of time, and they should all unite to fight together against the common enemy (which they did, but here is where D&D, the writers of this show, fucked up BIG time). Apparently, 3 years ago (right after season 6) D&D decided that they should ignore everything that they did thus far, and make Arya azor ahai just to surprise us, completely destroying the entire show by rendering the nearly decade of buildup useless. They decided to make the NK and his undead army a subplot for Cercei, and make her the final boss instead, making the main characters end their journey on a quest for power (great storytelling right there). So what did they achieve with this plot twist? They managed to single-handedly FUCK UP most of the plot-lines, characters, the entire show, just to play a little prank on their audience and subvert their expectations. What was the purpose of the whole gathering of the armies, all the dragonglass, weapons, if Arya, the mary sue of GoT could just sneak past the NK's whole army and generals, fly and appear out of thin air and stab him in the guts? In other words, from the get-go they promised something huge to their devoted fans, and for nearly a decade built up this hype around the NK and his army, just to finish him off as if he was just another bad guy. They basicly gave a middle finger to the entire audience who watched this show for the deep storytelling and lore it once had. They were all baited. It is no coincidence that GRRM, the author of this story left the show since S4, which is exactly when it started declining. A good plot twist serves a purpose (which is what GRRM is best at doing). It teaches moral lessons, it makes sense and it leaves a satisfying conclusion. But D&D are incapable of good writing and use twists just to surprise people who only watch this show for the spectacles, even if it means fucking everything up. And thats only regarding the ending of 8x3, I don't even want to mention the hundreds of nonsensical moments like the undead dragon's blue fire breath not destroying the little rock wall Jon used to hide, even though previously it destroyed the colossal magical ice wall that separated the north.

Although I agree that this season was stupid and rushed I have to agree with the idea of not having the battle against the dead at the end, because it is not only subversive in a good way but it is also very realistic, think for instance during the Chinese Civil War Communists and Nationalists were fighting each other for the control of China, they decided to unite to fight the Japanese invasion but once they were defeated they returned to fight each other until the final victory of Mao Zedong in 1949.

Assuming a no-piracy world, the casuals pay for the HBO subscription, and that's it (max 15/month, assuming they continue their subscription). 180 per year, tops, and you have to continue good content to keep that money (so you have to continue paying out money to keep that revenue). Of course, piracy eats into the money to be made from casuals in an extreme manner (this show is considered to be the most pirated in the world). So maybe 20 per year per casual, and that's it (per season, I guess, but casuals are also more likely to show up late and binge several seasons which reduces the window during which you could charge them the monthly fee, but let's just stick with $20 per casual per season) A passionate fan obviously pays for the above, but they are highly likely to have paid the full subscription cost the whole time (so back up to 180 per year, which is already at 9 casuals). But, they also drop $100 bucks on each season's box set, and spends money on posters, toys, games, etc etc. Using Star Trek and Star Wars as models, even when the show/movie is completely over, THEY CONTINUE TO GIVE YOU MONEY. The aforementioned toys/games etc, but also conventions, theme park tie ins, future advertising tie ins, etc. But this works only as long as the passionate fans are still _passionate_ about it. There is definitely a major potential loss in sales if you leave a bad taste in the mouth of superfans. Just ask Disney about how many SW toys never got sold.

You're absolutely right. It was fake tension. The kind of fakeouts we're used to seeing in other shows but not Game of Thrones. This went from a show that could kill Ned Stark, Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, Khal Drogo, The Red Viper, Tywin Lannister, without batting an eye, to putting characters in mortal danger and playing up that danger only to make them pull through in the most improbable way possible. It's lazy, made for TV writing from lesser shows and its shame that this is what GoT has become. The fact that Weiss and Benioff still seem to think this is "cool" and what the fans want only makes it even more infuriating.

Hint at a connection between the NK and the Starks which is something the have been alluding too. I would have also liked to see a battle of all the warriors who had a valerian steel sword fight the horsemen. I would have also like to see Jon get fire on him but not burn to solidify his bloodline. There are so many cool things that could have been done. No matter how it ends now it so anticlimactic. All the characters that are going to die is going to be by the hand of Cercei which sucks, it's lazy. I would liked for Ayra to kill Cercei instead which she might still do but it's once too many and I bet you that the green eyes is going to be Dany cause that is the shock value these hacks have traded a good arc for. I could keep going writing a better ending but I'm just here sitting on my ass. By the way Brexit sucks! I hope england goes in the shitter.

This show may be fantasy, but it has been the reality of the drama in a made-up world that has made it so popular. By the way, there were no 'connections' between the Starks and the Night King, just the Night King staring at the obvious leader of men, and the Three Eyed Raven, who both happen to be Starks (nothing to do with the Night King). Yet again, you are somebody who cannot get over the fact that they had imagined what would happen for two years and it hasn't come true, compared to me, who also imagined, but is far more excited to see how the show actually plays out, and loves it along the way.

The idea of the Night King raiding King's Landing or the twist with Bran would've been a lot better at this point. Looking back at the scene where the NK destroys the wall or the event at Hardhome makes this episode look like a complete disgrace as the end of the white walkers. Such a bullshit end, so much time waiting for this shit episode. I feel bad for those that stuck around since season 1.
