Just to clear something up. There was 300 years between Aegon the Conqueror (the first Targaryen king who united the kingdoms) and the Mad King. There was over 15 Targaryen rulers between them so the Lannisters weren't just sitting there to rebel. They were loyal to the Targaryens during that time. It was during the Mad King's reign that things changed. For the first 150 or so years of the Targaryen dynasty they had dragons but the dragons died after a civil war. The Targaryens continued to rule for another 150 years without dragons until they were overthrown during the Mad King's reign.

Excellent upload, thanks guys. I'm glad you watched this as you are clearly both into the Show and its characters, and these Histories & Lore give so much more depth to it all. I'm getting a lot of enjoyment from your GoT reactions, it's refreshing to see two reactors who are as intelligent, attentive, reactive and interactive as you both, it makes your reactions both heart-warming and heart-breaking to see. (I did say this show would be "a banquet" for you, and I think I was correct). You are two of the best out there, I can't wait for more. Take care and have a great evening.

@@Taewills Do you actually know the state of Westeros before and after the Targaryen's were in power? That's all you need to know that having them in power was good for the realm. Poor people will always exist in any society. That's an unavoidable truth.

Ned called it murder because it was murder. He wasn't spot on about his conclusions of everything that went down that day, but the murders of Elia and her children are horrific. And Robert was happy about them. I hate Robert. Elia Martell and her very young children didn't do anything to anyone.

The book series is brilliantly written. He is so good at showing that everyone has good and bad in them. Things are never black and white. Characters you cannot stand all of a sudden start to show you they have reasons, or were acting on another's behalf, or influenced, msnipulated, or misinformed. It makes for a spectacular drama. Showing the different perspectives is so cool - it shows how history is written by those who win.

I really adore the additional context this gives to Ned Stark! Loved him so much already, but the additional information adds a lot of context to all of Ned's actions. His trauma from losing all of his family (except for Benjen) during the Rebellion and the additional trauma and horror from the sack of King's Landing. You can see how these affect Ned's behaviours and actions, and even more additional context to Ned's hatred of the Lannisters. Ned lost nearly his whole family because of the Targaryens, but he still was not okay with the murder of the Targaryen children or the murder of Daenerys. That's a personal reason that I really adore Ned Stark for. Also, just an additional reminder, Robert's own reason for rebellion was the abduction of Lyanna Stark. But the reason for the Rebellion wasn't ONLY Lyanna's abduction, but the murder of a head of a great house (Rickard Stark), his heir (Brandon), as well as the call for the heads of two great houses, the new Lord of Winterfell, Ned Stark, and Lord Robert Baratheon. House Stark who had the loyalty of the whole North with strong Southern allies (Jon Arryn, Robert Baratheon and a marriage alliance with Hoster Tully) had gone from a family of 5 to a family of only 2 because of the Targaryens, with the Mad King threatening to unjustly kill Ned Stark, who had committed no crimes. In addition, he threatened Robert Baratheon, head of another great house. So Lyanna Stark's abduction was the spark (and a large part of Robert's own motivation), but it was really the murder of Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark that started the Rebellion.

One thing to understand is, the Starks didn't surrender because they didn't want to fight; by the time Aegon reached the North he had already destroyed Harrenhall with dragonfire and burnt it to the ground with the Hoares (The Kings of the Riverlands and the Iron Islands) inside. They had destroyed the armies of two kingdoms convined in the Field of Fire, they burnt sixty thousand soldiers alive; in the Stormlands they had a battle under the rain, their dragons could't fly and they still destroyed the Stormlands army and installed a loyalist as Lord Paramount (the equivalent to a duke in our world). The only other kingdom that could have fought them off was the Vale, but they surrendered after a show of power. Torrhen did reunite with the heads of other houses to discuss what to do, and his half brother offered to try and kill the dragons; but Torrhen decided to surrender so the North didn't suffer the same fate as the other Kingdoms

When you can build a universe, you will always be able to tell a story within it. It just keeps on giving. Hence, why there are so many books series and TV and film franchises! So amazing!!

The North is larger than all the other kingdoms combined! BUT, it’s too wild and big to be conquered which is why it’s such a valuable place to have on your side. There were 7 separate kingdoms, all ruled by 7 different kings before Aegon conquered them all and combined them so he was the King over all 7. The other kings became wardens of their lands rather than kings but all have to answer to the King of the 7 kingdoms which was Aeries before the rebellion. Now it’s Jeffrey. The North is now in open rebellion. You’ll learn more next season but history and lore has to be watched after the season because there’s spoilers in them.

The Lannister’s never ruled Westeros they only ruled a small region of it 1 of the 7 kingdoms. The Targaryen’s were the first to unite the continent under 1 ruler. Westeros was more peaceful under the Targaryen’s because they had the power to keep everyone under control. Before the Targaryen’s the 7 kingdoms were constantly at war.

I'd consider myself a hardcore fan and I'd take the Blackfyre Rebellions over Aegon's Conquest any day. The early Targs were assholes and not justified in their takeover of Westeros at all so I really don't care to watch them force these formerly free kingdoms to submit to them. It'd be pretty depressing. The Adventures of Dunk and Egg done on screen could be interesting too for a slightly less bleak tale of Westeros.

@@magicalfingers36 I mean... Personally, that would make me _less_ interested in the series, not more. I'm not sold on HBO rewriting the lore of Westeros just so they can trick us into cheering on a tyrant with even LESS right to rule than Danaerys. Ned's gods are the old gods. Catelyn is the Faith of the Seven. Sometimes you will hear the Many-Faced God referred to. I believe this is the Seven (as it is one god with seven aspects); I have seen other people disagree with this. Catelyn makes a sort of wreath of the Seven that she puts over Bran's bed when he is in his coma, I believe. This is also the faith that has the septons and septas. The church is called a sept. Peculiarly, the septas seem to be something like nuns, but they also seem to be governesses for rich family. Septons are like priests. Arya early on says that she follows the Old Gods and the New (the gods of the forest and the Seven). Later, she switches to the God of Death, more or less. Melisandre, the Red Woman, of course, follows the Lord of Light, and Stannis seems to, but I question his sincerity. He does hope the Lord of Light will gain him the throne. The Iron Islanders follow the Drowned God. Jaime mocks all the gods in his conversation with Catelyn where he asks where the trees were when they took her husband's head. Jaime was raised in the Faith of the Seven but is not a believer. He sometimes prays in the books, though, when he worries for Brienne. Jaime in the books had a prophetic dream when sleeping against a weirwood tree.

Yes Valyria is where Daenerys and Viserys come from is Valyria. They speak their mothers tongue. They ride and connect with Dragons but they don’t control the dragons the dragons allow them to have their connections with them. Btw the voices speaking are the actual characters from the show. Viserys was speaking about Valyria and the leader of the Nights Watch was speaking next. Tywin Lannister spoke next. It continues on with other characters from the show speaking about their history such as Katlyn and Bran.. can wait for you two to continue this show then you must watch House of The Dragon.
