I shouldn't worry too much about being spoiled for HOTD. The Fire and Blood book on which it's based is presented as a collection of writings from three in-universe 'historians' who each have their own limits, biases and perspectives and who often contradict each other, so one of the interesting things with the HOTD show is going to be seeing which version of the story the showrunners choose to make the 'real truth'.

Note to self: Learn how to do the Dornish accent like Oberyn Martel so that I can get ladies like Indian Calypso to drool over me ;). Also, I strongly advice you look up the first PITCH MEETING for Game of Thrones, then second one after you finish the show.

Indeed, there's no need to worry about being Spoiled by "The Dance of the Dragons" History and Lore. Most fans have seen it (myself included) before HOTD was even in production. Yes, what you've seen here will happen but "The Dance of the Dragons" Storyline is more detailed with many more layers to it. Reading the "Fire and Blood" book is only true way to be spoiled whereas this lore vid is just the tip of the Iceberg. 👍🏾

Actually the reason they practice incest is to keep their blood-line pure. According to their beliefs the blood must not be diluted, or else the magic that lets them control and breed dragons will disappear. There is a very plausibel idea that the Targaryans actually have a bit of dragonblood in their DNA, created by magic. This would make them magical people/creatures just like their dragons.

It is one of the reasons (apart from threatening to kill them) that the masters agreed to let them marry within the family - a right of exemption. So they are legally permitted to marry each other as the only family in Westeros.

@Darkstar I know that they are radically different. Stannis was followed the rules and did his duties and Rhaenyra did whatever she felt like. My point is that it's funny that he hates her cause "she's a usurper" although she was the rightful heir while his claim is seen as illegitemate too while he's the rightful heir to Robert. If he hated Rhaenyra based on her being an impulsive, irrational cutthroat I would agree with him. But he literlly hates for the one thing he shares with her

Aegon was a better king than rhaenyra, if you've read the books, aegon is one of the greatest strategic minds of his time, he actual fights battle on dragon back unlike rhaenyra, he even suffers burns from dragonfire, rhaenyra is a woman and she is stupid, she has no strategic thought in her head. Aegon is a male and by right is heir.

And he is her grand grand ... Children.

It's also funny because Stannis is a descendant of Rhaneyra.

Viserys I did pick an heir. He chose Rhaenyra. However, some of the lords didn't follow through with it. Plus, Alicent Hightower and Criston Cole rebelled. Also, there were two other Targaryen survivors. Baelor and Rhaena Targaryen - Daemon's daughters from his first marriage and Aegon III's half sisters.

@@Tsukiakari-qb3tk - which kind of annoyed me because they brought Daenera Velaryon from nowhere. If GRRM hsd Jaehaera live and have kids with Aegon and then House Targaryen descend from them then it would feel really fitting in my view and a good closure to the Dance. Plus, it would have been reminiscent of the end of the War of the Roses where Henry VII wed Elizabeth of York.
