Petyr Baelish, nicknamed Littlefinger, is a fictional character created by American author George R. R. Martin. He is a prominent non-point of view character in Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and a main character in HBO's adaptation of the series, Game of Thrones, where he was portrayed by Aidan Gillen. In A Storm of Swords, it is revealed that several major plot points have hinged on Baelish's intrigues, including the framing of Tyrion Lannister for the attempt on Bran Stark's life, the downfall of Lord Eddard Stark, the deaths of Lord Jon Arryn and King Joffrey Baratheon, and the War of the Five Kings.

You forget that Dany burned the Tarlys as a last resort. She offered them mercy and they chose not to. They slaughtered the entire high garden army without mercy. And they betrayed Olenna for power in the exact same way as the Boltons betrayed Robb. The Tarlys deserved it

I really like your content and cant wait for the next one. But can you please chill out with the “autistic screeching” & r-word comments? I dont think it’s fair to them to equate them to D&D, autistic and mentally disabled people are certainly smarter than D&D. Seems a bit mean. Also your Littlefinger and Jon voices are dead on.

Yes, someone thinks the same as me, this was so out of character for littlefinger, from the beginning when he admitted to kill Lysa, and it only got worse from there. The "evidence" is so circumstantial, and so easily disputed, that smart littlefinger would just turn everything around.(not saying he wouldn't died, Sansa would have killed him anyway). Trying to run to the Vale was the same as admitting everything, it's ridiculous. It didn't make justice to the character (which is beautifully written!), and the amazing portrait that this talented actor gives us. It is just sad that it went this way, and don't get me wrong, to some it may be satisfying to see littlefinger get what's coming to him, but the scene is just weak and full of holes.

It is irritating when the writers suddenly make a formerly clever character so dumb and out of character just to get rid of them. The fact that Lord Baelish stuck around Winterfell after seeing all Starks in one place with both Arya and Bran acting creepy along with Jon's violent threat to him in the crypts but didn't make him leave or draw up another plan was not very convincing.

seriously! to me, the show was really revolving around what varys, little finger, and tyrrion were doing behind the scenes with all their 5D chess and psychological warfare. which makes sense cause that's essentially what we uncover throughout the seasons up until this point. there was so much ripe and rich content to reap there...but I guess we can't have nice things cause Sansa, Arya, Dany, and Snow are the "cool kids".

Which is why he will win the game if the writers choose to make him relevant. Order out of Chaos. It is the life we live in real life. Those that want to control us and run things create Chaos (the planned mass shootings, terrorist attacks, propaganda to get us to believe we need to hate each other and fight each other etc. Then they come in with a solution, as a hero to the problems they created. By abolishing an old system and forcing a new one. Taking your rights away forever. But they will win this way by turning everyone against each other, all while watching from the outside and never being known to be the creator of all the Chaos. Just like in the show and just like in real life. It is a game to the mastermind(s). Winning is the point of the game.

In the books Tyrion is like the only one who doesn't trust Littlefinger because of the whole dagger situation. I guess because Tyrion is a POV character and Littlefinger's reputation in the books is kinda vague from what I remember, D&D changed his character to: nobody trusts Littlefinger, not just Tyrion. Not that it's a bad thing, I love show Littlefinger too....well before season 7 of course

The interesting thing about him in the show is that people know he can't be trusted but he's too useful to them & they end up relying on him in spite of themselves. And you have to say that on the whole it worked out well for Olenna re Joffrey (& by extension everyone else, Sansa not the least)

Fool didn't know who Bran was or what the 3--Eyed Raven was so he was out of his element. Little finger killing Bran would have been major plot armor. Bran could warg into the killer and make the killers stab themselves. Bran hardly eats and hardly sleeps. I've no problem with, LF dying he's not going to beat the 3-Eyed, warging Raven. Sorry it ain't happening. He could've asked for a trial by combat but Arya would kill them anyway.

@@Akkatlah Thats right, and then why did he quit his reasoning in season 7? He left his own path of purpose. He quit the game of thrones by himself. All of this buildup for his plots and conspiracies will lead to THIS? That’s pathetic, underestimating his ability to adapt to almost every situation he gets into, or which he brings himself into on purpose, to crawl even deeper under people’s skin. He would do anything for his final goal to get everything he can grasp in the realm and beyond… His talent, setting mind traps into everyone, is on pair with his silver tongue and his analytic brilliance, which leads him in and out of every possible scenario there is... That’s his true and major power and now should be outmatched by Sansa?! I mean it makes sense because she is technically his apprentice to some degree. She finally learned her lesson I guess… And she never trusted him, which was also been taught to her by Littlefinger. "Never trust anyone, not even me." -he said to her in Kingslanding. But in my opinion that’s not Peter Baelish’s whole potential and you understand why, when you watch this video and what he could’ve done instead of falling for traps below his own caliber. Also falling to his knees, begging, instead of saving his life with his witty mind... Srsly?!... Do you really think, the man who thought about every possible outcome in his plotting wouldn’t have seen this coming? Sansa and Aria simply plotted to murder him, without getting judged by anyone, because everyone hates him anyways... which is dramatic but too boring to be good entertainment. ;) Thats like if you let jon snow just die of old age because he was too lazy to fight and the nightking just slipped into an active volcano and died without an epic battle... happy end yaaaaay.... :D Just to finish the storyline faster and without loose threads...

@@dffndjdjd That’s one way of seeing this. But there should've been more milestones leading to his downfall. They rushed his plotline to prevent costs, because of the focus on heroism in the last season and also his character was too much too handle for the film writers obviously. His ambitions were too big and not fully unfold up to this point in the story. He could have grown even bigger in terms of power, there where endless possibilities for his talents to shine but they decided to shorten his character instead. Why was it to late for him to survive then? He should've acted as he knew there were powers around bran he couldn't control. ala "NOPE I'm out!" He did realize that, you could see it in his face, that he feared brans power to see fully through him. Really he seemed like he panicked way too much over this, up to a point where he wouldn't think carefully and rational anymore. Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try it again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb. They refuse. They cling to the realm or the gods or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is. You see, he is the only one who sees through all of it. He sees through all illusions, with a logic and analytic approach and that’s why he is capable of having an incredible potential. He breaks everything down into simple concepts, he disposes his morals and emotions as his weaknesses, which is also why he is mostly unmatched and even Varys, who seems equal in terms of power, knows, he can’t control his unpredictable moves. Fantastic chess play, but in S7 he suddenly lost all his pieces and moved alone, one by one square to his death. Seems fishy to me, that’s not the Littlefinger we know and l... listen to! ;p

It actually seemed more like a reminder that in those days a non-noble could play for power but was doomed from the start since they came out of a union not fit to rule unless they could themselves swing the sword that placed them there. He was doomed the moment he neglected the way his own ancestors came up and reaching too far. Like being born in England and wanting to become king some day.

@@GAndreC some sort of reminder, like they based a big part of the GOT-Universe of the medieval age. But it doesn't seem like all the common rules apply in the shows setting. As we know, everything is possible in GOT. Like we saw the deaths of major characters in the show. You never know and thats why it's interesting to watch how kings fall and chaos opens one or another way up the ladder. It's all about how well you play the game of thrones and he did a really good job, being the unexpected major player. He seemed weak, never on the offensive, always underestimated and he used all of this well to his advantage. It worked well until he got wrapped up in S7.

@@dffndjdjd He had a really good chance, if politics would have been a bigger focus on the show. Also "Forshadowing" is an interesting fellow... He tries to tell us about the future and only assumptions can be made out of the little hints between the lines. Littlefinger had a big weakness and thats probably why he got killed. He did hold a grudge against catlyn stark, because he was not chosen by her in the past. Instead of getting rid of this weakness, he later had conceiled it with his unconditioned love for her, built into his plots regarding the starks. He wasn't fully aware of his fatal decision and how it would affect and twist his approach on certain cases. He was way too attached to sansa in the end. He mostly saw an ally in Sansa, who, when he played his cards right, would help him, almost be like him. Even with this manipulative, twisted, fake love relationship which he had in mind for them, he still was too blind to see through her and aryas plan. This could have led him astray and he became overconfident. He didn't follow the safest route anymore and died. And even if he had to die at some point, this wasn't the right way, not enough credit for the Mastermind Creep. :p

I'm here! Though I never called you stupid, or disliked your videos. I hoped that GRRM told that Littlefinger is the Lightbringer and wins in the end by creating chaos, and this death would have been D&D capitalizing by "killing" Littlefinger and in a sense get away from writing this character up until the last episode or so. Having watched all the Petyr Baelish theory videos, there were so much things that made sense, and from so many different perspectives. I hated season 7 but I thought/hoped that it was rushed and they would make much better final season, because it's going to be their legacy and because GRRM would have helped more in the final season. In my defense, I didn't know D&D or that HBO would have given them more episodes/seasons. I only started watching GOT in 2017 because of the hype. I have not watched TV/movies (in the last decade) other than Breaking Bad and Twin Peaks the Return, which I think is the best thing on TV ever and will only be truly appreciated later like Stanley Kubrick movies. I fell in love with GOT and so here I am, now after it has all ended, I remember again why I hate Hollywood. One reason I also gave too much credit for the show and the possibility of Petyr Baelish Theory is that I watched Twin Peaks the Return which is the most complex thing on TV, so compared to that PB Theory would have been easy.

Other than the White Walkers, Littlefinger can more-or-less be seen as the main villain of the series. He started everything. All of the conflict was caused by his schemes. If he was to die, it should have been at the climax of the whole story, near the end, not by getting killed off like some side character because of a bunch of contrivances the writers just made up on the fly.

The downhill slide began with the death of Barriston Selmy. George specifically told them "Do NOT kill Barriston Selmy", he's a vital character in later story lines. The double-douchebags stated later "That only made us want to kill him off more". George's input started to drop off more after that. Once they got to the end of the current material in the novels, it just became a script full of potential (or memes. Since many characters were dropped, combined, or killed off, the story potential dwindled to the point of season 7 being rushed, depending on action over story... because they didn't have one. When making a series based on the works of a world renown writer, don't piss him/her off by being an insufferable prick. Their behavior with George R. R. Martin may have turned other authors away from bringing their works to people that haven't read the books. Great video. Your script ideas were much better than the dumpster fire we got. Thank you.

They also made all the other seasons, which would lead me to think that they know exactly how their characters work and would know what they would be doing. Calling out the writers is very disrespectful for what they have accomplished already. And producing a show isnt all in the writers hands. maybe the Barriston Selmy actor was an asshole, maybe he was old and wasnt able to play his role anymore, who knows what else could be the reason they decided how they had decided. Genevieve Carey Except Tyrion's first trial is clearly portrayed as a biased one. When you look at things from the side and examine all the pieces, it did make sense for him to murder Joffrey, the evidence was there. "Joy will turn to ashes in your mouth", his outright threats at the Council meeting all councillors heard... And then, we have Littlefinger's trial. If it was portrayed as dog justice, you know, Sansa just being keen on having Littlefinger killed regardless of the evidence, then I'd be fine with it. But it was portrayed as a "gotcha" moment, when it really wasn't. And what was up with Littlefinger's breakdown? Nothing Sansa said should have warranted such an act. Littlefinger we know would never break down like that, he'd keep lying and trying to get out of the situation to the bitter end, instead Sansa claims a few highly unreliable statements with zero evidence and everyone (Littlefinger included) acts like she's smart and outwitted him.

Littlefinger was my FAVOURITE character. I was so devastated with the way they killed him. He was literally the catalyst for everything that happpened in Game of Thrones. Your points in the video were spot on! He was far too intelligent to not realise that he was in danger when Bran quoted his “chaos is a ladder” line. Even if he had stayed, he definitely would have argued his case in the trial. He can talk his way out of anything - He’s Littlefinger! I would have even preferred it if it was Sansa who killed him rather than Arya, as it would have thus been bittersweet; Sansa being his kryptonite all along - the whole student becomes the teacher scenario... Either way, I still do not think he would have even let that situation arise! Like you said, he would have either returned to the Eyrie or killed Bran as soon as he found out about Bran’s powers. He only stayed in Winterfell because D&D wanted to kill him off since they had no clue how to continue writing such an incredibly clever character. RIP Lord Baelish #mylord

Who he wanted to marry, was secondary to his love of scheming. Pitting Sansa and Arya against each other, was far riskier and pointless than any action that he had undertaken in prior seasons. It was pointless for him to undermine House Stark at this stage in his game. There wasn't anything for him to gain, if he succeeded, his list of allies would grow slim. One does not simply undermine all one's allies, when you have so many enemies.

Exactly its too OoC for LF. The writers should retire from this show. So insulting to have an episode like this. G.R.R.M. would have never wrote this. If, there must be a forced trial for plot reasions, it should have been more detailed and made interesting, instead there was just a swift execution! LF would have been never trapped like an idiot like this and if so, he would have at least escaped or even scheme beyond the grave. A man responsible for almost anything that happened in this war does deserve better.(and i think the actor played the character quite well, too) The only good thing is now, i am not too sad that the show soon ends...

Before Littlefinger got accused there was a scene of him talking to a woman who was wearing a cape. Littlefinger gives her something, but we can not really see what it was. Then we hear someone whisper "Your time is up" and the woman goes away. The unseen something he gave her was a Bravosi Coin, like Arya was given one by Jaqen Hagaal. So Littlefinger asked for a favor in return from the many faced god. Littlefingers selfdefence at the trial was pretty poor, very basic and not what we are accustumed to see him perform like. Cause it wasnt him. It was a faceless in Littlefinger disguise.

Finally someone who acknowledges how stupid was littlefinger's death. Great work. But Comparing Daenerys to Roose Bolton is not logical for execution of Randyll Tarly and Dickon Tarly. They didn’t surrender to Daenerys they challenged her and opposed her after committing treason against her and Olenna Tyrell not to mention the mass murder of their brothers in arms, entire Tyrell army. Their execution was rightly done as they chose to die, they basically sentenced themselves to death not Daenerys. She gave these traitors a chance at life despite the fact they had sabotaged her most crucial ally. This shows that she is way more merciful than anyone else has shown in the entire show even more than Eddard Stark. Unlike Lannister’s she didn’t execute the entire Tarly family she only executed the people who were directly involved. What she did was within bounds of law of the time period this series is set in. If she would have executed the entire army that would have been cruel and straight up evil but she didn’t. She was absolutely right in executing the traitors who threatened her and murdered her subjects and ally. But D&D orchestrated the act in a one-sided fashion to paint Daenerys in in the worst way possible, to justify the stupid Mad Dragon Lady committing genocide story later. This doesn’t support that either because she was right in doing so. No one feels bad for execution of Frey’s because they murdered starks and their army posing as an ally and swore allegiance to. That’s what exactly Randyll Tarly did, its him who committed deeds comparable to Roose Bolton not Daenerys. D&D have constantly used stupid explanations and setups to justify absolutely senseless story line they created. Daenerys has been a constant target for character assassination in season 8 which is only parallel to that of Euron Greyjoy and Doran Martel. This is a fine example of marring her despite it being in bounds of what is perceived normal and expected thing to do in this situation. Not like literally every other character was also not reduces to mere shadow of what they use to be or a complete joke. But on these three D&D took extra care to degraded their character.

Both Roose Bolton's and Little Finger's deaths in the show were really written poorly in my opinion. It was just so dumb. Walder Frey's death scene alone was written decent enough, but also fails for not being that satisfying for all the build-up that it took for that moment. If it wasn't for Arya killing all the Freys at the next episode remedying that (Which took place in another season!), I would have also considered the pay-off of the storytelling on Walder's death to be a failure.

Littlefinger's death infuriated me to unfathomable degrees. He's one of my favorite characters: skilled, cunning and ruthless. He takes no sides, outside of his own. And he plays his hands obscenely close to his chest. This is a man who has literally started wars, all without having to kill a single person. And what was his endgame...to take temporary control of the Vale? That's it? That was his master plan? He lied to one of his childhood friends, sending her down a road that ultimately lead to the death of her and most of her family. Those who didn't die where either forced to kill, traumatized and forced from their homes. And for what? A realm? A single realm. All of that talk being about chaos and ladders resulted in him not doing anything of note afterwards. It could have worked if Sansa and Littlefinger were playing a game of cat-and-mouse. What if Littlefinger reveals his plan to Sansa (we don't know what it is, but let's just say its not nice). She refuses him. After trying a number of times, Littlefinger realizes she can no longer be controlled, and he starts working on getting her out of power. Maybe he changes his story to Yohn Royce, and gets the Lords of the Vale to side with him. (Bran is a hippie tree god, he may be able to fight against this, but lets pretend he's just wheelchair shopping because D&D ended up doing that eventually.) Sansa will have to use everything she learned during her time in Kings Landing. What would Cersei do? What would Olenna and Marjory Tyrell do? What would Tyrion do? She'll make mistakes, but so will he. She was once a pawn in the Game of Thrones, now she'd prove she was a player. And when you play that game, you win, or you die. Hell, I'd take Littlefinger getting his throat slit after losing 2 out of 3 rounds to rock, paper, scissors. A least that would be entertaining. But, no. I have to hear the line "I did it to protect you." Over and over again. My brain broke from such stupidity, and yes. It's been over a year. But screw it, I'm still pissed!

She went and told Cersei that Ned plans on sending her and Arya back to Winterfell - thus, far away from "she's beloved Joffrey". But I'll probably just talk more in-depth about the scene when I do my full season 7 video (which I'll get to eventually). In the meantime, here's some things I figured I'd respond to since I've seen them come up quite a lot: "Trial by Combat was outlawed by Tommen" - The North declared independence in season 3. They have their own rules. "You just like Littlefinger" - Yes, and I hate bad writing. "Littlefinger is still alive" - lol "That's a great Littlefinger impression" - You're god damn right "You liked Euron? Euron Sucks!" - I liked the scene where Euron kills the sand snakes. But don't get me wrong, I absolutely hated the stupidity of LF poisoning the relationship between Sansa and Arya because it would literally serve no purpose for him. However, poisoning the relationship between Jon and Sansa would make total sense and would eliminate Jon and since Sansa was already in LF hands then he would become warden of the North by marrying Sansa. Typical idiocy from D&D. They constantly write scenes that contradict previous scenes, while also referencing previous scenes which shows that they are aware of the breach in continuity. Stan The Man I’m not sure about your final point. Littlefinger is only Lord Protector of the Vale by virtue of his marriage to Lysa, the widow of the previous Lord of the Vale and mother to the current but underage Lord of the Vale. Once the Lords and Knights of the Vale know that Baelish killed Lysa Arryn in order to seize power, the legitimacy of his rule has gone. If anything, they would be honour bound to kill him and avenge the Lady of the Vale. We see this when Baelish tries to command Lord Royce to take him back to the Vale, and Royce refuses.

Right, but all Royce and the Knights would have is the word of Sansa, who is admitting she previously lied to them about Lysa's death. They are bound to Sweet Robin, and Sweet Robin had essentially made Littlefinger the Lord Protector. The way they should have played it was that ROBIN, not Sansa, had sentenced Littlefinger to death in absentia, and Royce would produce a letter to that effect when LF begs Royce to save him. That way, Sansa doesn't look like a murderer and the behavior of the Vale Knights makes more sense.
@willmosse3684
@willmosse3684 5 жыл бұрын
eXcommunicate1979 I totally take your point that “all they have is the word of Sansa”, who has just told them she lied before in any case. That is a completely valid criticism of this scene - no evidence was ever produced to prove these allegations. That is a totally valid criticism - it is stupid. All I was saying was that if we get past that admittedly stupid point and accept that, in this world, Littlefinger’s guilt has been established, then I don’t think an appeal to the Lords of the Vale would work. Once they “know” he killed Lysa they will kill him. I don’t think they’ll be thinking about Sweetrobin back in The Vale. Sweetrobin is still in his minority, so though they have to respect him as their lord, executive power does not actually sit with him but with his regent. Littlefinger is that regent, but once his legitimacy has been destroyed, who now holds power? Sweetrobin is still in his minority, so it’s not him, though he clearly has influence and might be the deciding factor if he were on the scene. But he isn’t on the scene. Littlefinger might be able to retrench his authority if he could get back to Sweetrobin in the Vale, but that’s not where he’s at right now. And, if Littlefinger is out of the picture then the Lords of the Vale will get that power for themselves - presumably Bronze Yohn, as the greatest of the Vale lords. And they all know that Sweetrobin is weak - what’s he actually going to be able to do to Bronze Yohn if Yohn returns to the Vale saying “I have avenged the murder of your mother and your father”, and he is perceived as the legitimate Lord Protector by all of the other lords and nights? Nah. If there is even a plausible suggestion that Littlefinger illegally seized the rule of the Vale, he ain’t making it out of that room alive.

He should have been killed in a better fashion than a shitty rushed death honestly. I really do hope George does his death scene in the book more justice. Also George has always said that this view on the protagonist and antagonist is way more different than the stereotypical boring and over done version that centuries of lazy writers have used.

Little Finger was one of the most interesting characters in the show up until season 6. He was the perfect foil to Varys (a do-gooder who ended up doing bad for the realm, and thus bad for all life) as a selfish ass who ends up doing good for the realm (killing an insipid child king) by pure accident. He represented everything that was GOOD about the show, thematically and mechanically. Little Finger in the show is what makes life (fire) in all its chaos, self-centeredness and arbitration different and valuable as opposed to the forces of death (ice) that the white walkers in their reasonless, choiceless form exemplify. Everyone talks about liking the show for "the intrigue" and "the seediness" and yet when a character's entire purpose is intrigue plots and owning a brothel, they mindlessly cheer at his idiotic death like the black and white moralists they are. It speaks to the indifference or incompetence of the writers that you, a (let's be honest) schmuck who's appreciation and knowledge of the show came purely from watching it, can do a better plot AND death scene with less than a month's time.

I agree that Littlefinger's death, ironically enough, was very poorly executed. However, I do think that Bran's testimony against him is rock solid. If anyone questioned how he knows that, or why they're supposed to believe it's the truth, Bran could just keep on spitting people's secrets back at them until they realize he really has total recollection of the history of mankind at his disposal. But that's why I thought your idea of having Littlefinger at least TRY to assassinate Bran earlier on in the season would've made a lot of sense, and could have culminated in this sort of trial, where Littlefinger realizes his knowledge really is no match against Bran's, and that he's gonna have to demand a trial by combat. That would've made it his very last resort, and they could've kept him in the dungeons or something until Jon came back next season to gut him like a fish.

The implications of LF's trial as far as the Northern Lords are concerned is that Sansa will execute you without proof while being a guest under her roof. How do all of them not react to this the same as the Karstarks reacted to their father's execution? Lord Karstarks execution was actually justifiable and even so eventually others abandoned Rob because of it. LF's was not. Why hasn't (and won't) Robin join with Cersei now? Or at least wage war on the North himself. This whole season was a mess and the trial just brings into focus all the other inconsistencies of this and previous seasons. It would have made much more sense for Sansa to have Arya use her skills to just murder LF without all this unnecessary pretext if D&D wanted to go the revenge route.

I have a feeling the final season will simply be the "good" characters overcoming the "evil" ones without much nuance in D&D's desperate rush to be done with the series. Logic has well and truly been thrown through the moon door.

TheAnanaki *Karstark. The men who left after his execution were exactly that, his men. Loyal to House Karstark. Littlefinger doesn't have an army loyal to him. And the reason is that nobody likes Littlefinger in the North or the Vale besides Sweetrobin who is miles away and doesnt know yet and also not the brightest and helps Sansa because she is his cousin. The Knights of the Vale are in the North under Lord Royce who defo hates Littlefinger so he's happy with the outcome. I don't know if it was the most fitting death scene but it does make sense.

He schemed against Ned because he loved Cat, not against the whole Stark family. He started a war that did involve the Starks, that's true, but he didn't have anything against the Starks specifically. In his rise to power in the Vale he did everything by the books, as far as public opinion goes. Regardless what Lord Rolls Royce had against him on a personal level, in the eyes of the other soldiers and the general public he didn't do anything that dishonorable. In the eyes of the public: He overthrew the absolutely crazy Lady of the Vale saving Sansa in the process, which I'm sure everyone was somewhat relieved by, and I'm sure the general public would've given LF some points for sticking out for their allies (i.e. Sansa Stark). He advised sweetrobin and made sure he was a better ruler than his mother was. He basically saved Jon in the battle of the bastards, showing again that he honors alliances. The reason people hated LF wasn't because everyone knew he was a little lying slimy bastard. If that were the case he wouldn't have gotten far. It was only people who knew him closely that really hated him. Why? Because he was a little lying slimy bastard who manipulated everyone to get power in such a way that nobody could do much about it. That's why people who really knew him hated him. Not because he was a lying cheat. More because there was nothing they could do about it. Hell, even Sansa liked and trusted him at first, bacause she didn't know him very well and from the outside it seemed like he was doing everything by the book. It's when she got close enough to see his real side that she feared/hated him. Sure, several people might not have had a problem with just executing LF on the spot without giving him any chance to defend himself. But if they wanted to give him a trial the general public should not have been okay with it. Northerners especially would not have taken such dishonorable behaviour, much less from the children of Eddard Stark.

He was not murdered as a guest, but executed as a criminal after trial. From my understanding, the "murder a guest/host" crime is to be understood as a way to regulate war in the 7 Kingdoms. The Red Wedding was a war plot by Tywin/Roose/Walder. Murdering a guest and executing after trial are different. The Red Wedding and Tanner killing Craster were murders against guests/hosts, not executions after trials. Jaime, a guest, attempted murder on his host Bran. If he was caught then, he would have had a trial and been executed by Ned. LF was the cause of the whole Stark House downfall; of course they should execute him after trial.

But for a series that knew exactly how the story would end, they would also know where their characters would go, espacially since they had detailed talks with GRRM himself. They would have known years ago where each and every characters path would go/end. They had time enough to flesh out and give each character an approriate ending. I would like to know what you think about the "Littlefinger is still alive" theory with him being replaced by a faceless man to fake his death. It is a much more plausible explanation why Littlefinger died... because he want to. To me Littlefinger and Varys are the two people that are scheming at the same time and they should collide at the end of story for a final showdown. Just pointing at the "writers are bad" is kind of disrespectful when we compare it to what they have accomplished in all the other seasons. its not like they swapped out writers or they suddenly forgot how their characters work. i think they know exactly what they are doing.

Trust me, he will come up with something better and more clever than anything we can come up with. To be honest, what would be real is if people like Little Finger die peacefully in their death bed, just like real life politicians who never pay for shit in this life. Just like mobsters who are rich, never go to jail but get all the luxury this life has to offer because unlike your average person, who would never kill or harm others to get what they want, people like LF would kill their own mother to get it . I wouldn't be surprised if he lived through all this, that would be bitter sweet.. You think those two dorks D&D's writing of these characters are better than the vision GRRM had? seriously?..you must not have been paying attention to his whole book series...guess thats why we arent GRRM.. Yeah they know the outcome but money and fame corrupts, that's as old as time. Just listen to their interviews, especially Benioff, hes a liar. Claims to be a history nerd but never read history books cept for one about the civil war a few years ago. And they even claim straight out scenes were made to show the talents of their favorite actors, they got star struck, fuck the plot or story...after hearing that shit from their own mouths how can anyone defend them being clever and that they did all this on purpose...maybe GRRM...but these two hacks?? cmon...

Seth - D and D knew what the ending would be but not exactly how GRRM planned to get there. After the show started, some of the actors did such a great job that the Dizzy Duo expanded their story lines, which meant "tweaking" the overall story. This is why the TV plot lines have diverged so far from Martin's written story, and then there's the obvious(or is it oblivious?) fan service plot devices - not to mention the scenes played out for sheer spectacle. Sadly, it doesn't matter; like the guy who produced this video, I plan on reading the Last books and don't really care how the show ends. He is certainly correct about one thing, though - Littlefinger's death scene was a stinker. I actually wonder if D and D let the offspring of some HBO exec write the scene to get a small writing credit, as a favor to that exec, maybe as a payback for a favor. We will not know for sure until the documentary about "The Making of "A Game of Thrones": A Tale of Idiocy and Mediocrity" comes out in 2020.
