proof that these writers are douches and completely ignored any input from the cast members themselves.
Even ignored complaints from people who read and loved the books and knew it was going wrong.

Bruh, they aren't even traditionally trained screenwriters. David Benioff is literally a trust fund kid who got shoe horned into Hollywood because of daddies money. And D.B. Weiss was only there as his side kick and to market the "Writing Duo" rather than the traditional team of writers. HBO and GRRM also offered them additional writers, directors, advisors, and even said they'd be willing to give them up to 12 seasons to wrap up Game of Thrones nicely on television. They turned it all down because they wanted their sole names to be the writers of the show. And then when HBO and GRRM asked that they pass on the show to another show runner rather than end it outright they refused again because they still wanted the fame alone. Fuck them both, they're selfish manchildren.

It was an ill-deserved reputation earned off the backs of the episode directors, the actors, the crew and George RR Martin. Just look at what that hack Benioff did before GoT. Wrote the worst X-Men movie, and the worst Will Smith movie since... well, Bright, but you get my point. His only good script, that of The Kite Runner, was simply an adaptation of the work of one of the best contemporary authors. Weiss is even worse, he wrote one mediocre novel and used Benioff's coattails to ride along.

@@jumpinjohnnyruss that's horrible. I'm writing my own personal story, and it gets harder the closer you get to a finale, because you want as many plot points to go SOMEWHERE , even if they aren't ready to be concluded yet. You want to let the audience know "hey, I haven't forgotten about this. trust us, we got you" then you go back and rewrite dialogue to make some of it feel more natural, some of it more direct, some of it less direct, maybe skim over a few episodes to make sure you didn't forget anything that needs to be addressed later. also, you're supposed to keep a list of unfinished plot points, and unused chekhov's guns that you either purposefully or accidentally put into the story.

For me, the point in the series where Littlefinger was ruined was after the death of Lysa Arryn when Littlefinger was being grilled by the other lords of the Vale and he had apparently had no strategy to cover his tracks in place and was just like “Hurrr....durrr she killed herself” and the lords weren’t buying it. Only the intervention of Sansa, who unexpectedly backed up his story, saved him. Book!Littlefinger already had a scapegoat selected and successfully pinned Lysa’s death on the singer Marillion (If I remember correctly).

Littlefinger lost all his wit when he started playing the games they played it. It tries to become a lord while he despite them. He was meant to be a emperor not a wanna be king. This was the battle between Varys and him. Traditon (monarchy) vs rebellion. At first I was defending Tyrion lack of intelligence because he was in a culture in didn't understand (in Essos) and he was around people who were so dumb he made him lacking tool (MIssandei and Grey worn didn't know what was a joke). But, no it was just lazy writting proves by how they plan the batttle in WInterfell) (even if I think the show always had some major issues about strategies battles this was the pinnacle of anti strategic)

Plus, as much as it is enjoyable, reading takes time, just like any other hobby does, and it I bet many of them wouldn't have the proper time to really read it. Also many of the actors from the cast has said they'd rather wait to know how it's gonna be on the show, instead of sort of "spoiling themselves too much" or having conflict behaviors between character book and show book. Tywin Lannister for instance. Charles Dance was the best cast for him, he stole every scene he was in with his presence alone. Very strong character, for a very strong actor. Many people agree that Tywin show is better than Tywin in the books... Aaron Paul managed to keep Jesse, his character, who was supposed to die in Season 1, alive for the rest of the show and he became one of the best characters in the whole show if not the best. Also, the cast was able to put a little bit of their own ideas into them (Walter White adopting the habits of the antagonists after they die seemed to be Bryan Cranstons idea) to make the characters seem deeper and more human. Not only that but the actors also got the chance to direct episodes (Bryan Cranston, Giancarlo Esposito, Rhea Seehorn). Meanwhile D&D think they’re so good at writing that they don’t even listen to their cast, which is STACKED with actors who loved the books (Barristan Selmy), who have studied deep into their characters (Varys) and who would most definitely do a better job than them.

Plus, They told everyone, actors included, to speak up if they felt something didn't feel right about the story, realism, character motivations etc etc, and it was a truly collaborative process to make the show as good as it could possibly be. Goes to show that listening to your cast members can help out.

@Joshua Beattie There were signs much earlier. Whenever they'd go off on their own and invent, or change things, you saw what they were and how out of their depth they were. Dany in Qarth in season 2 (a horribly done plotline) was almost all made up. And there was a change in season 3 that really showed how careless they were - they changed the identity of the person who took Jaime's hand. Not just identity but allegiance. They made it, of all people, Bolton's chief lieutenant. This would have completely changed the plot, which that season and beyond hinged on a Bolton-Lannister alliance. They did it anyway and just left a huge plot hole of the Lannisters - the family that always pays its debts, the most vindictive, revenge-mad group in the entire story - simply never caring at all about Jaime's hand being cut off. They never say a single word about it in the show after it happens. In the books the fate of the people responsible for cutting Jaime's hand off is horrific.

My favorite example is Han Solo, as he is about to be frozen in Carbonite. Originally, Lucas had Leia say "I love you," and Han say "I love you too." Harrison Ford pushed and said that Han wouldn't say that. And so we got the iconic, memorable response of "I know."

When someone takes a time to write you a respectful, detailed letter with a counterargument, your reaction shouldn't be, "Well, that's annoying, now I am really going to kill off your character." What the reaction is, frankly, is to have a meeting, a conversation, and explain your point of view. The actor doesn't have to accept it, but if they know the reason is because the story is just to big, and the character's impact doesn't serve an end goal to push the major plot forward, then you can at least live with mutual respect, despite the disagreement.

@Victor Tronin I hate to tell you this but there is absolutely no chance in hell of Disney ever going bankrupt. Even if they monumentally mess up every movie they make from this point onwards they will probably at least break even in profits with the production cost, they make so much money off well... EVERYTHING else. They got: toys, books, comics, clothes, songs, amusement parks, and of course the money they still make off movies that they already made. Not to mention whatever else I simply can't think of that they would also be using to make money. Point is, they could mess up as much as they want but the odds of them going bankrupt is practically nonexistant.

If you go down the rabbit hole, you'll see that D&D never tells the actors when their characters are gonna die (and that they're gonna loose their job) in advance. In fact, they NEVER talk to their actors about anything concerning the script, and NEVER listen to any criticism voiced by them (or by anyone, actually). It's exactly like Nico said, their mindset is "you're an actor, just say the words", and their track record shows it.

In the Friends series, the writers were letting the actors themselves come up with lines or jokes, or if the actors or film crew, didn't find a "specific" joke funny, they would change the whole thing mid through filming. And they were listening to the actors criticism, and look how successfull that show is, even many years after. Two completely different genres, but cooperation between writers and actors, is the key to a great show.

Well, Ian McElhinney got the last laugh. Barristan could've improved the final season tremendously as one of the pieces that led to Dany's breakdown. Imagine if he were in Missandei's place, years after he was dismissed by Cersei. Their reunion, Cersei seeing him helping her enemy, would've been SO intense. In fact, I could see him as the first piece to fall (which would sting but make sense because he could be viewed as treasonous), followed by Rhaegal (which would sting more but make sense because of war). Finally with the time given to build up Missandei, she could be be ripped from Dany right from under her nose which would sting the most because Missandei is pure and would only be in harm's way because Dany put her there.
