I don't think e3 being cancelled will kill my hype at all this year. Being someone watching from home I'm excited about the announcements and seeing trailers and gameplay, which we are still going to get. Especially with new consoles around the corner, I think this will be the most exciting year for gaming even with out e3.

Justin nailed it with the E3 discussion, I'd also like to add the perspective that not all publishers are treated equally in the eyes of gaming press. We know the big 3 will be fine (MS/Sony/Nintendo) they will put out their Direct like shows and move on. Bethesda/Square/Ubi/EA will also get their word out just fine without much hassle, my concern is for those smaller publishers trying to get eyes on their digital events now that they can't be in a press conference with the big boys even as filler.. Who's watching the Koei Tecmo Direct? What about Arc Sytems Works or Playtonic. If they can't get their games into one of the big 3 chances are they're S.O.L. on their own and they won't get anywhere near the same traction doing their own digital event. While we all champion for basically everyone ripping off Nintendo and doing directs, remember that not everyone has the catalog to A) put out a worthwhile presentation and B) the name recognition to get eyes to notice.

As a former pinball repairman for a vending company, I loved working on tables a figuring out exactly how they worked. My favorite tables of all time are Addams Family and Star Trek Next Generation!

Best Final Boss is a character action game mirror match i.e. Vergil DMCV, Baldur and Jeanne in Bayonetta, etc.

Loved the pinball discussion. Did anyone ever play Safe Cracker? I loved that one because you could win tokens and at my arcade those tokens could be redeemed for free laser tag. There was also this pinball-like variant where you played baseball and could launch the balls to hit HRs for baseball cards. That one was always a good time. Also, I played that windows space cadet pinball game a ton as a kid. I liked how you could go on missions and level up.

Gonna be a stickler - Viva Pinata wasn't technically "released" as a title that runs natively on the Xbox One. Paradoxically, it's part of Rare Replay, but you get the Xbox 360 version via backwards compatibility in the bundle.

I never played point and click adventures either, but the reason is a bit odd. I played Myst with my mother and my aunt when I was young and fell in love with it. I went out and tried to find every game I could that was similar (The Crystal Key, 9, and a few others...), but every time someone tried to suggest the "actual" point and click adventure games I would scoff at them and say Myst is the point and click adventure genre.

The question that comes to my mind now that E3 is cancelled is which event gets cancelled next? SDCC, NYCC, OZCC - hell does every event get cancelled this year? Medievil Remastered wasn't reviewed well, that game doesn't hold up.

On the topic of things you hate about boss fights and especially about Justin's point of it being completely different than things you learn during the game: I hate the boss fight in Dying Light, how do they put a quick time event boss fight in a looter zombie game where you've spent the entire game finding and crafting stronger weapons

Correction: It "was" a next generation console release year. Until further notice, they are pushed back to 2021, in my opinion. We'll see if I'm correct, but as an educated bet, it's a good one.

Sony is a victim of being to good. They've been making several greatest games of all time year after year. Now they release two very good games and they are looked at as Bethesda. Meanwhile xbox releases a few horrible games and one good game and they are looked at as one of the best in the business.

Why are they pretending that E3 got cancelled for lack of traction or attendees? E3 got canceled for concern over the corona virus, just like every other event in US, they are talking like E3 is never coming back... i see it as a great opportunity for them to take time off and reinvent the event... i been to E3 2 times, one time too many i would say... but i still enjoy watching over streams...

Rating stuff by scores is so stupid. Look at what they put out and judge them accordingly. How does xbox rank higher than sony? Days gone and death stranding were treated extremely unfair. Even if it wasn't sonys good year any honest gamer would admit they should be a little below Nintendo this year.

I think Justin, and so many others who make the same point, misses a massive point about why live events are different even to those who just stream them. A live event is an entirely different atmosphere. I hate the Nintendo Directs because they are just over produced and boring. There are now crowd reactions and there's none of the atmosphere you get from live conferences that add to the excitement. I've completely stopped watching the direct type conferences because of this. Instead I just read the news stories and watch the trailers for just a handful of the things that were shown. I miss 90% of the content shown because the direct shows are only 10% as interesting and fun as live shows. It's the equivalent of watching a soccer match live on TV versus seeing the scores and highlight reel on TV later.

Considering how popular the Nintendo directs are as a format among viewers, this is probably not something Nintendo are worried about.

@@agavechillar3868 So? That's not a counter argument. Others enjoy it, I'm aware of that, but that doesn't mean that I should or that it isn't missing something that live shows bring to the table. Variety is the spice of life dude. We get trailers all year, but the live shows are dying.

You still don't need E3 to have a live conference. E3 entails a live conference followed by multiple days of working a show and holding press meetings and spending a lot on booth space, construction, and travel along with devs pushed to put out hands on vertical slices. All of that last stuff is of dubious value to a publisher given digital dissemination of information Obviously you're getting the information either way, whether it be directly from the live stream or from you listening to gaming news about the announcements, and the publisher doesn't actually care how you got the info if you heard about it either way.

@@agavechillar3868 I mean come on Tobias. You're making the tired argument that something being popular means that it's good. We all know that's not true and certainly doesn't negate criticism. Mobile free to play games are popular. Should all none mobile games go away then? Blockbuster movies make more money than deeper, more personal movies. Should we only have Marvel movies and no Three Billboards?

@@VGJunky What are you trying to argue here? That it makes sense for publishers to ditch the live shows because I get the info either way? What sense does that make? I didn't argue that it is a terrible business decision, I argued that it is a more boring way to transmit the info. You're taking a very strange position of defending money and big companies here and I don't get it at all. But hey, if you want to go down that route live shows and show floor coverage also gives the viewer a different experience than controlled demo footage and trailers. Presenters such as IGN going around on the show floor, making videos about their experiences gives the viewer a window into that experience and can make one more excited about games than just watching the trailer that publishers release. It's the entire psychological reason why react videos are popular and why we listen to IGNs podcasts. Through the screen or through the ear phones we share in the experience. It's not the same as being there but it is closer than a lot of us will probably ever be. I get that you like Nintendo Direct style announcements but can you really not see where I'm coming from? I get that it's more expensive and a lot more work but I also think the pay off is much greater, or if nothing else, very different. Sure, if all you want to do is argue what makes most financial sense for your favorite company then of course it's going to be directs, but shouldn't the world be a little more fun than that?
