I just bought a Series S this week because of gamepass.

Quick resume is the most surprisingly amazing feature. I thought the ps5’s faster loading would be better overall but man I prefer quick resume in any situation

Microsoft's recent news on acquiring Activision came about 4 days to late to be added on this podcast. Huge news though - Microsoft making some bold purchases as of late.

I bought a series S in the Aug/Sep and have loved it, I recently found a Series X bundle at my local GameStop (by accident) and got it! I’ve recently seen more Series X on sale in store and online so I think the supply is getting better but it may be a case where a whole batch just came out. I also hope those consoles are going to people who will play them and not sell them for double the price.

Not being into 'social media' I'm not particularly aware of others opinions and thoughts beyond what I read on the IGN site and here (and only occasionally), so I'm overjoyed to hear that apparently there are others that would love to see this show more than once a week! Sure, maybe every day would be exhausting and unpractical but a second or third show, even if they were slightly shorter would be amazing. A couple of thoughts on the Xbox sales. When Microsoft started splashing the cash I think it absolutely demonstrated that they have no intention of being second 'best' to Sony. As many have pointed out in past discussions, the size of the Microsoft's fortune is enough that with the intention and a smart/clued up leader there's nothing stopping Microsoft from dominating any market they care to. It was always surprising that MS essentially failed last generation but I presume a lot of that was poor direction and management at the very top. I agree with Justin that I don't think we're seeing a realistic and clear view of sales/popularity because of the chip shortage and issues around the pandemic. I don't think Microsoft are quite as close in terms of fanbase and what would be genuine sales if the current climate weren't so disrupted. But I do believe Microsoft at the end of this generation will have the largest sales and be the dominant console, although not by too much. However that progression won't stop, and while I don't think the Playstation will fail, as those of us old enough to remember the beginning of gaming; large, dominant corporations are never guaranteed to stay in that position. After all, Sony were the new guys on the block once and had no background or association with gaming when they first arrived. Great show by the way, as always. Did I mention we really ought to get more each week!?! It doesn't need to be said, but the massive advantage, for me at least, this show has over all others is it feels more representative of the attitude of genuine gamers, ie. while there's clearly enthusiasm and a love for gaming, the panel aren't afraid of pointing out games, or genres, whatever. that they don't like. Too many of the others either feel like they fear repercussions from speaking against a corporation or their product (except if the game isn't developed or published by one of the big dominant corporations) or feel (unrealistically) enthusiastic because of the platform its on, and perhaps unnecessarily concerned with their audience!

The PS5 controller is amazing. But, "Quick Resume" and automatic-multi-console-compatible cloud saves make the XSX my primary console this generation. My XSS is an amazing Gold, Game Pass, and travel console.

Those Jampack demo discs were, in fact, for sale at stores like Walmart for $4.94. I still have three of them (volumes 10, 11, and 12).

I love the OMEGACOPS. Has anyone else noticed that there are no longer closed captions for gamescoop since they moved over to IGN GAMES on youtube? Is there another way to watch this show with captions? Even another platform?

I own both consoles and I rarely use my PS5 to play third party games just because of the convenience of quick resume, it is one of those quality of life improvements which doesn't sound like much but is an absolute game changer. Brought the series X just because I didn't want to miss starfield and ES VI expecting it to be the minor household console too. Gamepass is also a great way to discover games to buy. Ordinarily, there is no way I would have brought games like Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Psychonauts 2 or Hades had it not been on Gamepass, as it turned out, loved them and was more than happy to buy them. Saved me from having to buy some games I didn't particularly enjoy too like Halo Infinte.

I cant wait for forza motorsport too, its next gen only and was announced so long ago and I think that will be the game to really wow me on series X. Nothing blew me way so far on series x tech wise and always preferred that series over horizon

I was really confused how Dameon could have thought season 4 of Cobra Kai was a weak season, but it made sense when he admitted he has somehow NEVER seen Karate Kid 3. Terry Silver stole the show and was fantastic

Not sure about other territories, but over here in the UK, Xbox for at least a few months has frequently only been sold bundled with 2 years of gamepass. I imagine that has been putting off the bots from buying them up meaning Xboxes get a chance to sit on the shelf a bit longer. Hopefully when Sony have their gamepass out, they can do a similar thing

I remember back when xbox one launched I though I'd buy it once it had 10 exclusives I definitely wanted to play. It unfortunately never got to that point. I think the same again for the xbox series and so far it has 2 exclusives I'd definitely like to play. So maybe in a few more years.

I played that tomb raider game . I remember there was a level where she had a full leather cat suit and did Stealth like Sam fisher

Xbox SeriesX has been a great console to have. The games are coming out and Gamepass continue to be amazing. I’m excited to see what happens this year all around. Edit: I actually remember that magazine, talk about a fun trip back in time. The end of the N64 and then the PS2 that year brought some great games, but it was also a time of heavy shovel ware on PS1 especially. It’s kinda sad that magazines have become almost irrelevant, they always make great time capsules.

I would say Xbox has really turned it around. I havent gotten one since the original Xbox and I barely used it. I've always been a PS player. But I definitely have my eye on Xbox again thanks to GamePass. If I didnt have a baby on the way, I would have bought one by now. But I have to choose PS5 for now due to my limited time.

You have to watch The Karate Kid 3. It is by no means a good movie - but Terry Silver is one of the most insane characters you’ll ever see in a film. So ridiculous that it is good and Cobra Kai makes you appreciate it even more.

You know, the reason people liked demo discs (other than having a physical thing in their hand to be excited about) was because those demos were chosen to be put on the disc - so part of the reason they want them is because of the "curated" picks. Perhaps what you could do is create a monthly, curated list of "free demos" for people to check out with links on where to download them (or in general how to get them if they are on console). I don't know, I'm just spouting stuff off to try to stay relevant - how am I doing?

When a GPU alone costs two to three times a brand new console, the choice is starting to be easy (and that comes from a life-long PC gamer)

I love pinball but probably not the way Sam does. From past podcasts, I vaguely remember Sam mentioning that he doesn't particularly like PLAYING them (that's not why he collects them) - or was it that he isn't particularly good at them? I don't remember, but in either case, I'm someone who absolutely loves playing pinball. If they weren't INSANELY expensive, I'd have a few myself in my game room, but alas, I have to resort to enjoying them in video game format, like that Space Cadet pinball game that came with Windows XP machines, or the NES pinball game, or Adventure Pinball: Forgotten Island (actually LOVE that one), or Yoku's Island Express. For me in particular, it scratches a very specific itch of enjoying discovering secret passageways, or that same satisfaction you get from watching a complicated sequence of events for launching something, like dominoes falling in a line which then tip a ball to roll down a tube that then moves a candle fire to burn a rope, releasing a hammer that breaks an egg into a frying pan :P EDIT: I stand corrected, Sam didn't say that he didn't like playing pinball or that he wasn't very good at them, what he actually said was that 1) he enjoys physical pinball machines as opposed to video game ones and 2) even though he plays and has friends who are in pinball league, that's not why he enjoys pinball - he enjoys it because of the aesthetics and because he likes fixing them and opening them up to see how they work. I found the episode - it was #622 and he mentions all of the above at the 50:45 mark.

Justin is right not to assume too much from these console sales numbers. BUT, they are significant - even more so in context. Remember, the narrative in much of the last 5 years wasn't "is Xbox going to catch up?" It was more akin to, "Is Xbox going to survive?" Even in the last couple years, when Xbox had been on the comeback tour, it was still very unclear whether there would be any demand. Indeed, we had endless talks about how Playstation's launch was vault superior and how gt7, hfw, and gow were going to blow Xbox's meager halo Forza offering out of the water in 2021. People were vaguely optimistic that ps5 wouldn't outsell Xbox 2:1 like last gen lol. In THAT context, that they remain so close is actually remarkable. Demand for Xbox continues to exceed supply - and remember, these are the most in demand consoles ever! (actually PS5 may be less than PS4. Depends how good this holiday was). This is not a paper win. Ps5 demand is huge, but Xbox demand has exceeded all expectations. And that's also huge! Finally, Tina mentioned in passing that everything on Xbox is on pc too. A significant portion is available on phones and tablets. Never before has "console sales" been less important as a metric (not to say it's unimportant by any means) for Xbox. And yet they're beating records. Justin is right that we haven't seen how this all shakes out. But I think this news is unequivocally better news for Xbox than Sony. And ideally, this success continues for both. This is great news overall.

Game pass. Just as good and more exclusives, more powerful system, better backwards compatible games, better dashboard and interface, and more. Xbox is awesome. And I do own a PS5 and love it for one thing. Games I can’t play on Xbox. But there is nothing else.

at one point the ps5 was 2:1 so sx/s has made a huge comeback.

If those figures are indeed true about the -1 million Xbox is behind, this could be seen as fairly impressive considering how badly the Xbox brand does in Japan, I believe around 100,000 or so Xbox Series machines combined have sold there versus around 1 million PlayStation 5 combined units, so somewhere in the world, the Xbox must be outpacing the PlayStation which is pretty big for Microsoft. Gamepass perhaps is really digging in with those sales coupled with the Series S penetration pricing model but they need to keep up with exclusive content, something Sony and Nintendo have done each generation, giving players a reason to buy their machines as the only place to play those games, sometimes by design, in Nintendo's case or having the only home console VR unit in the case of Sony.

Call of Duty is a great Xbox Exclusive feature. As are pretty much every FPS western gamers love.

This Friday, I'm sure they'll update a lot of these PS × Xbox talks. I'm curious watch. It's amazing how things can change in a week. I don't care much about Activision Blizzard, so it makes little different to me. I'll like to tey some of their games on Game Pass though. But Xbox's strategy could either turn out to be a good or a bad thing for the future of the industry. Right now, it seems to be a good thing. But who knows if it'll remain like that. I would not be surprise if Sony developed a new IP to rival COD.

With the bathesda purchase Xbox will have the content to keep up with Sony. If any Xbox has more content coming than Sony right now.

Xbox competes with PlayStation every other generation it seems but this is the first time one of them didn't face plant out of the starting position

I'm looking on eBay and the SX is selling for 700-800 while you can easily get the PS5 for around 600-690 so not sure how they came up with that 2nd hand market number.

To have sales that are so close would normally be something to really talk about but you have a problem with supply constraints so both companies can literally say everything we make we sell. If you really want to look at success engage in success to Microsoft this generation do you want to have to wait a little while until they can get those initial buyers out of the way and you have to actually see can they chip into some of Sony‘s market share. They have potential to do so the question is how much of that market share can they get. Keep in mind I say this is someone who jumped ship I had a PS4 loved it not going back to Sony I see too many other issues that I don’t like there I love my Xbox series X. For the record I started out with an Xbox one S then I bought an Xbox series S couldn’t find an X. Then one day I got lucky the stars aligned and Xbox series X was on sale I scooped it up right away. As soon as I told my coworker man I got this Xbox series X what am I gonna do this Xbox series S the first thing they said was do you want to sell it I’ll buy it right now when we leave work let’s go to your house and get it. I think that don’t speak volumes.

PS2 had a lot more games worth playing it’s first year than Fantavision smfh

PS5’s 13.5 million *sold through* was reported through the end of September. They’re averaging 3.5 million per quarter so that would put it at around 16-17 million. If the Xbox is at 12 million *shipped* like being estimated then they’re still behind about 4-5 million. Which was about the same difference the previous gen.

Honest opinion here: I've been a Xbox/PlayStation user since both launched. Quite frankly the OG Xbox was a pretty good console with some really awesome games (but not quite as "visible" as ps2 exclusives). Still, they showed a solid console. The XB360 really showed how much they learned and you can tell (except for the RRoD debacle at the beginning). But man, XBONE was such a mess. I completely skipped getting one that gen and never missed doing it, plus the PS4 swept the floor with it from day one. These days, however, MS finally seem to be back on track to the point that I totally prefer getting a XSX over a PS5. In the end the console giving the best value/games wins and so far seems XBOX is pushing hard to be that console. Really exciting competition will take place this year and the following.

I've owned every generation of both, I prefer Xbox. However, the 12 million Xbox number is as of now and the 13 million PS5 number is as of 3 months ago. It's Q4 Xbox numbers versus Q3 PS5 numbers.

Nintendo is my primary console. Secondary - i'm waiting for a series x to become available. Gamepass seems like a great bargain and I love western RPGs. Playstation games........they seem to try too hard to be "mature" but end up failing IMO, and that's just due to the medium. They'll always look silly compared to books, tv, or movies that can do "mature" stories well.

I’ll be honest. I don’t understand why IGN seems to be pushing the current narrative with Xbox. They’ve absolutely made strides, but I remain skeptical that they have fully recovered when they very intentionally omit their sales numbers. It’s always presented in vague terms that can be interpreted in the best light. This year was definitely an improvement, but almost nothing they released this last year interested me for very long. I put about 10 hours in Halo and FH5 and haven’t felt too compelled to come back to them. And then there’s the fact that they didn’t have any major games for the first 9 months of the system. It just feels like they still have a lot of ways to go to fully convince me.

The key with Lego is improvisation - yeah its cool to make the actual thing you paid for - but after a few days then what...? Once you have a few 'sets' its fun to just combine all the peices and mix everything up and just use your imagination to create whatever... Thats why people love Lego, people get over the set 'sets' very quickly... I used to have a big tub full of random bits and it was awsome haha...

Let’s not discount the Uncharted movie and The Last of Us HBO series boosting sales for the PS5 (despite how you might feel about those projects).
