In addition to the two mentioned games, Mr. Mosquito and Mad Maestro, the Fresh Games label also saw the release of Legaia 2: Duel Saga and R-Type Final on PS2 and Swingerz Golf on the GameCube before apparently evaporating into thin air.

43:00 In 2004 DualDiscs were even introduced, they could have a CD on one side and a DVD on the other. I've never played a game that came on a dual-sided DVD, but I've seen some movies that were packaged that way.

If anyone has read the short story “17776: The Future of Football” I think it would make the PERFECT setting for the Zelda-like motorcycle driver game. It’s a world in which American football is now a cross-country sport with insane rules and satellite overlords - just the perfect amount of “out there” to match the other aspects of the game!

I currently work in the board game industry and I didn't know Embracer bought Asmodee. So...yes that's a big deal, but I haven't heard anyone talk about it. I also worked for a comic publisher for 3 years and didn't know Darkhorse was bought by Embracer. Maybe I need to get out more and clearly working from home means I'm out of the loop.

Transformers don't reduce the voltage to 12V necessarily. American home outlets output 120V AC, and game consoles have varying voltage and current needs. 12V DC is what car batteries output, and all car electronics are made to run at 12V DC.

Whenever an acquisition happens, just know that the price paid isn't the direct value of what is being acquired. It is a number based on the future cash flows of the timeframe of how long the buyer sees the acquisition as an investment. I just hope it means we get some fresh ideas even if certain ip's get reused. I worked for tru for almost 20 years up to liquidation. The rzone was just a name for the electronics dept.

Not only that…. What embracer is paying is likely just square enix’s equity on those properties. Most likely those companies are also leveraged with debt/other equity. So it could be that those companies are actually 1 billion in assets and 700M in liability.

Wouldn't be surprised if Embracer's plan was to simply remaster/upscale older title games to be streamed/played with next gen consoles while taking their time producing newer title games that showcase the upcoming Unreal Engine 5. I personally think 300 million was too much, but only the buyer in this transaction would truly know how much of that purchase price was allocated to Goodwill.

Y’all make fun of the small design shirts.. but the reason I don’t buy most video game shirts is because the designs are so big and gaudy. I haven’t worn a shirt with a giant design on front since I was in kindergarten. Sell subtle shirts!

Well it is true the video gaming audience has shifted focus. Japan used to be the hub of video games that’s not the case anymore. Even when it comes to video game development that’s not the case. Prime example is Sony. There was a time when Sony was based in Japan they moved their headquarters for a reason it was because the money was coming from North America it was because the game start was selling the most were the ones made by North American developers. Don’t get me wrong I’m old-school so I love a good JRPG a good mascot character doing some platforming Mario was my bread and butter in the 80s but when you look at where is the money coming from now most of the popular games out there the most popular games out there weren’t made in Japan and the money they make doesn’t come from the Japanese market that market has gotten smaller. There was a time when Microsoft needed Japan to be successful is not the case anymore don’t get me wrong it helps just ask somebody it really helps when they know they can count on a few extra million sales coming from one region but right now you want sales in North America and Europe. That’s where the money is. So that’s why the market shifted. Now you have Japanese developers that went a little too far into the Westin market and they had a problem they didn’t quite relate they couldn’t quite make the transition. Square is a perfect example FF sells well for them but their other franchises typically made by North American developers doesn’t meet the companies expectations. For whatever reason maybe. The thing is I don’t know how to say this really Japanese developers aren’t the best when it comes to making games that north American and European audiences really flock to. Example if Square tried to make a western RPG they would drop the ball most likely wouldn’t be as good as some of the greats we’ve seen. Now square made a JPG it be great but it’s niche to some degree unless it’s a FF game that’s the problem they’re running into it’s more of a design philosophy really. For whatever reason Japanese developers don’t quite design games the same way north American and European developers deal I don’t wanna say there’s a disconnect but there is sort of a disconnect. Japanese developers aren’t often willing to do new things look at FF over the years we still see the same tropes and ideas pop up meanwhile you’ll see a western developer do something totally different when it comes to an RPG sometimes they hit sometimes they miss but they try different things. Look at leadership at Japanese studios culture comes into play Japanese culture dictates that leaders are typically older and may go nothing wrong with that it’s the culture in Japan but that has an impact on video game development. You come to North America or Europe you might see younger leader ship. Just look at the average age of a CEO in Japan then look up the age of an average CEO in North America or Europe you’ll see a 20 year difference almost. That speaks to culture. So when we see Japanese developers make games they may not hit sales expectations we can’t exactly say why there are a lot of elements at play here but being mean located in Japan is one of them. They just can’t do the westernized games like companies from the west can so they have to pull back and that may be best for them but that presents a problem will they ever have those killer titles that sell record numbers.
