"Open the door to win" being literal was clever, you win by opening it and just don't walk through it, so you could playing for hours, looping through room after room, so you decide not to walk through and then you win, then to rub it in they tell you how many doors you walked through before you figured it out. It kind of reminds of Crash Bandicoot 1 where if you miss any boxes in a level they rub it in by taking every box you missed and smash it over your head or any game with a death counter, the Nioh games have a statistic for how many times you've been killed, if you play modern mode in Crash 4 the life counter becomes a death counter. When a game has a counter for how many times you failed, it just motivates you to do better on the next run

yeah they say you don't have to go through the door, but there's no rule that says you can't! if all you have to do is "open the door" to win, that means you win every time you open a door! manly won 157 times! the game devs can SUCK ON THAT

_"You sounded kinda clingy anyway"_ And with that, MBH totally escaped the horror experience. Best ending. :D It did remind me of the wry humor of Stanley Parable where the best choice is no choice.. Or in this case, actually listening to what was told to you vs overthinking what you heard. Very clever and refreshing to see another game with dark surreal humor.

You did really good with this. It definitely has some Stanley Parable vibes, but there are worse things to be similar to. It's really interesting to see where you go with a concept as simple as opening doors. Especially because - as it said - different people will respond differently to this kind of situation. Though, back on the note of Stanley Parable, the light show when you "won" gave me huge PTSD flashbacks to that game, and their light show, and the utter heartbreak it gave me leaving that room. Why do light shows always end in disaster in games like this?

This reminds me of an SCP a bit. It's a little D20 shaped thing that over time expands any enclosed space it's in, adding new rooms and stuff in the style of the old ones. But as it goes further and further things diverge more and more from the starting material. Things in odd positions, then made of odd materials, and then shapes getting all unusual and physical anomalies and so on escalating endlessly.

@@abadgurl2010 The reason it's a 001 proposal in the first place is that The Foundation has good reason to believe that the entire known universe is the work of that object, as in the universe is a room it's just kept expanding and expanding. There's some logs where they use a FTL probe (just roll with it they've got magic) to test the homogeneity of space and it turns out that the farther they get they start seeing anomalies like they do in buildings affected by the scip. Exact duplicates of the same galaxy repeated next to each other or one made entirely of chocolate mousse, stuff like that. And if that hypothesis is right it means that those errors might also be the source of anomalies in general, all of them.

You might like a game called Alter Ego by Caramel Column Inc. It has multiple endings and shoots to give an existential crisis. It's part visual novel and part idle game so there is a built in pacing system that might make gameplay a bit slow. There's fun psychological tests, if you consider each of those results as endings you may have your work cut out for you lol but there's a main story to follow that I think is separate from the tests.

I'm going to be honest, I kinda like this and I don't usually like the whole liminal spaces shtick. I guess it's because it feels more Stanley Parable and less "Oh me too me too I can do a Backrooms" mess. Not to go off on a tangent to much but it's not so much the liminal spaces thing I dislike, it's how people have a tenancy to take a good thing, run it into the ground and have utterly no idea why the Backrooms was as effective as it was.
@teagherstudio
@teagherstudio 2 жыл бұрын
We didn't know about the backrooms when we started working on this. Though, about halfway through the making of the game, we discovered it. So we just added a secret "backrooms" level as a sort of easter egg ;). Thanks for the kind comment!
@--.._
@--.._ 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, people add new things to the backroom lore (new levels, enemies, etc etc), but that just really strips the horror of the original idea. To me, the backrooms is an infinite space where there is no chance of escape. For eternity you will only witness the same yellow walls and hear the humming of static. There's no mobs or anything like that. Just the terrifying thought that one day, without any warning, you'll no clip into this reality and you can't do anything to escape it. At least this is my opinion anyways.

The backrooms are such a great creepypasta it's smart to add some sort of backrooms "easteregg" into your game, no matter which game. Have an invisible trigger hovering around the playable area that if you clip out you get teleported into the games backrooms, or have a buggy area in the game where you make it so the player glitches through the ground and ends up in the backrooms. It's such an interesting concept that i love this game added it in. And as we saw it's so unique that manly immediately knew where he landed.

What’s behind us is always our business. They’re the doors we have walked through to get where we are today. We did it on our own 2 feet so it’s 💯 business. Other than that 1st door behind you at the beginning-great upload. As always 😊

Nah, the impersonal text on the wall suits the mood better. Hearing a voice would ruin the atmosphere.

Ah yes, entering a tesseract/hypercube for funsies! I wish places like this were real, just huge places with no cameras and random stuff to explore. I wanna steal half the decor and put it in my room. I wanna walk arond this place for days with a backpack of snacks and come out with a couch i stole and eight different electronics.
