If a video game boss doesn't play fair, sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. Here are some dumb but brilliant cheese moves to conquer certain bosses.

How is Divinity: Original Sin 2 not in this list? So many hilariously broken cheesy things you can do. Y Telekinetically yeeting a backpack so full of stolen artwork that it has the density of a neutron star through a boss' skull, oneshotting anything. Lightning entire continents on unending fire. Creating a life leech - heal causes damage - health link - immortal for the next move feedback loop that will obliterate any one creature you might meet Teleport giant party-murdering shark onto land, instantly ending it. So much fun you can do.

I'm assuming you're talking about a Thunderjaw or whatever their names are, the ones guarding tech in underground labs? If so, there's not a difficulty jump higher in that game than the first one you face. It was like they dropped a speedy, spammy FromSoft boss your lap.
@Verrill82
@Verrill82 2 жыл бұрын
I found the first ThunderJaw you had to fight in the canyon quite an easy but lengthy fight thanks to the stone outcrop you can keep ducking behind. It was a case of just circling back and forth and picking at it and providing you stayed sheltered behind the outcrop, you didn't take too much damage. Now the added mechs in Frozen Wilds are another level, even with the ancient armour I struggled on the trials!

Fun Fact : In MGSV, you have to do the Quiet mission twice to see the actual ending, and the supply drop trick only works the first time. The second time around the difficulty is increased, so if you call a supply drop on Quiet’s location, she just dodges it. It shows that the entire supply drop trick isn’t exactly a design flaw, but something the devs intended to keep in the game.

It's always amusing to find cheap tricks for hard bosses, like using the fishing rod against Ganondorf in 'Twilight Princess'. One of my favorite cheeses was the third boss in 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution'. He's supposed to be your mirror match, as augmented and as powerful as you in every way (and if you got the firmware update, the first half of the fight you're fighting with your own augments having been disabled). As a boss, he is also immune to the game's quick takedown attacks. However, as you're maneuvering around the room there are a number of short walls that create hallways and obstacles within the stage that the boss can vault over. During this animation, however, he suddenly becomes very vulnerable to a number of alternative tactics... including the aforementioned quick takedowns. It was the most hilarious thing to me to carefully position myself, watch this guy vault over a wall to get to me... and seeing a short animation of Jenson just decking him across the face and knocking him out cold, immediately ending the fight. I don't know if they ever patched that out or not, but boy was it satisfying.
@MinorZero
@MinorZero Жыл бұрын
Afaik it is patched out in the director's cut, but should still work in the original where I used it myself a few times. At least the boss fights are somewhat better in the director's cut in return, so cheeses aren't as needed. Still, if you don't want to deal with bosses just make sure you have an upgraded Typhoon and be done with it :)

Kinda like why patch the hook in dying light 2 as the guy is a super human jerking himself across the map using stamina as he does anyway even after the patch that keeps us from climbing with the hook as he can pull himself into the air with ease and again move horizontally with no issues. He is also stronger than the alphas in his monster form. Yet slower and weaker than normal people around him...

In GTA 3, there's a mission where Donald Love asks you to escort a securicar. Loads and loads of enemies in vehicles try to take that car down. And it's your mission to protect that car so it can get to the destination "safely". The cheese is to let the securicar go on it's own. The game only recognizes the securicar in the distance. So, the enemies are not rendered, so, it protects itself if you don't follow it.

In Super Mario Brothers 3, during the final fight with Bowser, one can just use the Tanuki Suit to turn into a statue when he jumps then stay crouched after changing back. Bowser can't hurt Mario anymore with his jump attacks so Mario can just stay huddled in one spot while the floor is gradually chipped away, moving only when the last floor bricks crumble away, letting the Koopa King drop himself into the abyss without doing a thing to him.

Emerald Weapon in FF7. Equip "W-Summon", and pair "Knights of the Round" with "HP Absorb", then "Counter" with "Mime", use "Knights of the Round" twice, and put down the controller. Borderlands 2 should be on this list! You can cheese quite a few bosses. Is sleeping the Godskin Duo really “cheesing”? Sleep is an intended mechanic in the game. The old Crusader games had a boss which was an absolute nightmare to fight fairly. I believe it was Chairman Draygan, or "RoboDraygan", in No Regret - I only remember being on the receiving end of lots of rocket volleys, though the videos I've seen suggest a much lower rate of fire. Maybe I had a DOSBox config issue, was playing on a different difficulty, or just using a different version. In any case, you could place a Detpac (a remotely detonated bomb) in the doorway before engaging. This would prevent the game from closing the door behind you during the lead-up cutscene, letting you leave the confined room you're supposed to fight in (or cross to access a robot to fight for you). The boss was too big to fit through the doorway but he'd come over to try. To keep things fair most enemies near to or off the edge of the screen weren't allowed to shoot you, so you just had to back far enough away and you were completely safe to pick him off at your leisure - including setting off the Detpac just to add a little injury to the insult.

So glad you reminded me of the crouch corner trick in LoZ II. That fight was sooooo hard and my 6 yo self couldn't beat it until I figured out the crouch corner. It was a desperate move that just happened to work. Totally underrated game for its time.

The best cheese in a boss fight I found was in borderlands 2 when you fight the bunker. Your supposed to go up on this platform with lasers, explosives, and a bunch of spawning enemies; instead all you need to do is stick down by the elevator you're supposed to enter after beating him and you can take pot shots at the boss all day with almost no chance of him or anyone else touching you.

There were lots of moments like these in the Borderland series. Like the Boom and Bewm fight from 2. You can just stand on the hill before going into the boss fighting area and take pot shots at them until they die. I don't remember if you need a second player to trigger the boss fight, but even if so, just have them hide and start taking shots.

Another good mention is one of TLOZ Wind Waker bosses. The giant flower boss, Kalle, in the lost woods for some reason instead of fighting him normally by cutting vines and exposing his weak point you can just pour some forest water on it aaaaand it kills it instantly. Why? Hell if I know

Sleeping Dogs, bringing a gun or a car to a kung fu fight haha. We happy few, loading up on infinite amount of berries outside towns, never go hungry again ( I wish the game would have turned out better). Enslaved odyssey to the west, stunning the hound multiple times in a boss fight making it look like a joke, the only thing left is button mashing. I think that's all I can think of I might return when I remember what I did on console.

Metal gear Solid 1 was for me the best CHEESE Boss Psycho. In this time youve had not internet or Tipss sites, only the hope some magazine give you the tipp. You cant beat Psycho because he always knows your move, but if you change the controller from Dock1 to Dock2 he didnt know your moves anymore and you can beat him. This was so amazing.

The secret ultimate boss in Borderlands 1, Crawmerax. Thing is, if you hide behind a specific lip in the ground, he cannot reach you with any of his attacks, but you can. Use a weapon with regenerating ammo, or one of the alien tech energy rifles, and you can eventually whittle him down.

Super Metroid: I don't remember the name of this boss, but he's about halfway through the game. The walls of the boss area have light receptacles that can be shot out. After doing that you have the boss pick you up with his grab move. While the boss has a hold of you, you shoot your grapple beam into the broken light receptacle. This will cause major damage via electrocution as long as you keep a hold of the receptacle. You must make sure you have enough health though. As this move not only damages the boss but you as well. Using this strategy you can beat the boss in mere seconds as opposed to minutes.

Thank you for mentioning Two worlds! I was actually just thinking about that game yesterday. My best friend at the time and I would play it for hours on end. Mostly just laughing at it. The one I always cheesed when I discovered the trick was the boss fight against the Bull Rancor in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. You can just hide in a little cave at the side of the boss arena where the Rancor can't reach you and then just use force lightning to whittle it's health down.

Final Fantasy 8. Have Selphie in your party, keep her at low health perpetually and save her limit break. When it's time to fight a boss, use her limit break and with her at low health, she has a high probability of rolling "The End" which instantly kills whatever you are fighting. I beat Omega Weapon the first time that I fought him with that cheese.

i grew up playing mgs3 and personally i would have done the end instead of the fear, because the end is the old sniper that runs and snipes you with a tranquilizer to put you like 2 levels back. but if you set your consoles date forward a few days and reload the save youll find he has died of old age and you get an alternate cutscene

I didn't do that trick with Malak, but I was having a hard time in KOTOR 2 fighting these two Twi'lek assassins because I was playing a character I pretty much neglected. I did the trick with him. I ran to a small alcove, dropped a couple of mines, and let them come to me. The final boss in that game was hard AF, though. I ran, healed, returned and wailed on her, rinse and repeat. So much for an epic final duel. Then when she attacked me with flying lightsabers, I managed to get the lightsabers separate in order to fight them one on one (because the AI can't see around pillars). I lost the last saber (it just disappeared) and went and wailed on the final boss since she was distracted with controlling the lightsabers.

Actually, there's one tactic that works really well on both Shadow Link and the various armored knights in the game. Crouch jumping and stabbing in midair. Basically, you end up canceling the down thrust with a forward stab around waist level. As far as I can tell, this slips their guard by effectively counting as a high and a low attack at the same time. It's a pretty cheesy tactic for what are otherwise some of the hardest enemies in the game.

In bloodborne when fighting lady Maria if you take her up to the stairs right behind her chair and use beast roar a couple times she will disapear but her health bar still remains she can't hit you at all and she's invisible but if you start attacking you'll randomly sometimes hit her and start to see her health bar go down till shes dead.

For that trick of placing multiple mines before the fight, you could do a similar thing in Dragon Age. That giant dragon you fight in the mountains, you just go place a bunch of your most powerful traps where you know it'll land. Then you hit the gong, enjoy a massive lag spike, and it'll die. And in Castle Crashers if you choose the Industrial Knight (I don't know what he's actually called) and spam his sawblade magic against larger bosses, they'll do multiple hits and absolutely shred them within seconds.

In Timesplitters 2, at the end of the level Robot Factory you fight a boss called The Machinist. If you fire your Sci-Fi Handgun under the boss the ricocheting lasers will constantly damage it, destroying the boss in seconds.

Uncharted 2, just don't run away, even on crushing. Shoot the exploding tree sap, wait till it grows back, repeat. One of the few cheese moments I found on my own. OOT Dark Link, hammer time. AC Valhalla, apparently you aren't the only one with no jump button.... I took out/drained one witch, two zealots and timon (or is it pumba) because like Ludo, rocks are my friends, also loa privet like fences, ne. The Valhalla (and every AC going back to 2 as I recall, when the AI bugs......) were all happy(ish) accidents.

9:00 another cheese I like to use against that Double Dragon NES level boss is a baseball bat glitch. You fight a group of Lindas (one has a whip). Knock the whip from them. Don't pick it up until the final Linda is defeated. While the body is flickering as it disappears, if you time it right, you can turn the whip into a baseball bat and bat the end level boss off the edge of the building

On Bitterback Isle in Dragon's Dogma, there is a really tough armored cyclops that you can drop bombs on from above. It shouldn't be possible to defeat that boss until much, much later but if you use that trick you can get several levels up of ExP at the very beginning of the game. Another good one is in The Dying Light Following DLC, you can beat the pretty tough final boss by standing on a ledge and wacking her ever time she tries to climb up.

Grimm in Hollow Knight. This is supposed to be a fancy dance-fight-show, and Grimm even punishes you for starting before he bows with a dangerous bullet-hell attack zupposed to mark him losing a quarter of health pool. However, during this attack he stands still in the center of arena and can be easily defeated by spamming magic from under him while taking bullets in the face to gain more mana with a special charm. Though you have to do some of the no-guide exploration to find all the stuff needed and can fight Grimm before that... but summoning the troupe in the first place is also done by finding a secret room and doing some guideless things in it...
