Just saying, but, cant't the "repetitive" argument be made about nearly every game?
@amateruss7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I think the repetitive argument is just there for the sake of giving an argument. It does not have any substance at all.
@blackicebrand71427 жыл бұрын
Russ Canduit yeah i mean really how many shooter or zombie games out that we coul call niche there was no point in that statement
@perseusdeme7 жыл бұрын
shdw787 Not really. If a game has variety and is introducing new mechanics, environments that are used to alter the gameplay, or a change of objectives, I don't think it would be repetitive. Nier isn't repetitive to me because of their intuitive changing of gameplay. I think classifying all games as repetitive would be foolish. Take the indie game Braid for example; it's just solving puzzles with the same gameplay and only movement and a jump key, but the mechanics constantly change to keep things fresh and not repetitive
@Bromag1187 жыл бұрын
I really wouldn't say there's any thing that's repetitive in this game other then using the same combo repeatedly or shooting the gun. this game has the most Random and unexpected shit happening constantly. it's constantly throwing new stuff at you. I guess you could call farming repetitive too.
@perseusdeme7 жыл бұрын
Brett Hietpas I have to disagree with you there. the enemies were only slightly varied and they all had the same robot look. the transitions from different game play types felt more like they were obligated to change something instead of making it more natural, however, they did manage to pull off the natural feeling of changing game play in certain parts.

I don't know about good graphics because someone else has called it "last gen" while I think it's a varied, and great looking game (this has nothing to do with the treasure collection room, sending out the "scout" ship sidequests, or the included set collection "mini" game. Honest.) Also "cute" girls is subjective but personality wise the girls in this game are multidimensional, have actual motivations and conflicts, and are adorable. (Never tell Velvet she's adorable. She'll probably eat you.) The game is Tales of Bersaria. It's my first in the Tales series and I was pleasantly surprised. If you want a heavy challenge be prepared to up the difficulty, but even that's cool because you get better loot.

I've been playing for only 7 hours, but there are already a couple things I disagree regarding this video. First, more attention should be paid to Yoko Taro, director of the game and responsible for its "soul". And second, I find it really hard to believe that you praised the combat and said the story isn't incredible. I'm not saying the combat's bad (Since it's great, up there with Bayonetta and stuff), but the story is SO good. I'll just ignore the part of "better than most anime style..." and jump straight to saying that it's one of the very few times in which I've seen someone write a game, and not a script for a game. By saying that, I mean that Yoko Taro uses every single aspect of the game (menus, mission types, NPC name,s Mechanics, and even game structure itself) to tell his story and reinforce the themes and narrative. Since that's more apparent when you've played previous games, I can't really complain, though. What I can say, to add some more stuff is that it has quite the thematic depth, tackling death, love, existentialism, human nature and philosophy as a form of knowledge. Since I haven't finished, I can't tell if the script is good or not (by that, meaning "the story itself"), but regarding themes and narrative, it's probably one of the best things I've ever played.
@nethrowpk7 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. While the combat ain't something completely amazing(SPOILER it's still an good 9/10 didn't start the 3rd route so can't say what the 3rd Char can do)but the story in itself ( 9,5/10 ) theme (10/10) and storytelling/narrative(11/10) are so amazing i didn't see something like that since few years. They really put heart and soul into this one. And i definitely recommend it no matter console or PC or waiting till it's cheaper it's not any longer just an game to play like Horizon or the new Mass Effect but a "Piece of Art" from the same aisle as Witcher 3, Gothic or (don't wanna piss of people) MGS a must Play.

Good video other than the comment about "its not the most groundbreaking element of the game" in reference to the story. To say that about a Yoko Taro story and storytelling is evidence that the multiple elements to the story completely flew over your head. I'm compelled to assume you played through Ending A only, but in the case you did get through all the main endings (A B C D and True Ending E) and you're able to say that, then you missed all of the deeply LAYERED, multi-directional, philosophical proposals the storytelling conveys in both big and small ways. The story and his ideas within them, as per the usual Yoko Taro's style, are not the usually obvious kinds and they do tend to go over a lot of people's heads, which is why his older games stayed as niche-ish and had a cult following, because the people who did realize those mind blowing and emotional elements are going to be super passionate about supporting it, while those who didn't are going to focus solely on how bad the graphics/gameplay were for them.

You said what I was thinking, thank you. Ive seen a few reviews so far that say the story was flat or bad and every time its been from someone who only played the first ending... The game, and more importantly the story, drastically changes through each ending... I just started Ending C/D and the story has literally been completely upturned on its head and inside out...I know it seems like it might be unimportant. But only playing through ending A is roughly equivalent to playing Skyrim until you get to Whiterun and assuming thats the end. It has so much more too it than just the first go.

It sounds stretched out when you put it like that, but each of the 3 runs is like a new game. B runs you through the same story with a different character and a whole new gimick that turns combat on it's head + skips lengthy parts and pushes the story further. So if you leave out the fact that there is a credit roll between the sections you are just looking at a really long good game. I never found myself bored. If nothing else, I had too much to do since the sidequests provide so much insight into the world.

Majority of people who play games don’t have the time to replay the same game five times just to 100% a game-file. In that respect this game fails to appeal to the wider market which despite its cult-popularity is the reason it didn’t do all that fantastically financially. They could have incorporated their multiple endings in a way that didn’t fuck-over the majority of their players and thus reviewers and the wider populous would have enjoyed the game just as much as you did. Alas, most of the world don’t have free time like you to sink days into playing the same story again and again just to get another ending to a game they’ve been forced to play four previous times. If you’re not unemployed; a kid; a loner with no real sense of adult responsibilities or relationships or say someone bed-ridden for a week due to sickness, then this is not the game for you. Same with the whole JRPJ genre.

Just actually finished the intro/tutorial, the first time since January. Amazing experience :) and I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into the rest of the game. If you're looking to get through the first part without getting really frustrated, hold down the right bumper button and fire continuously. Put the difficulty setting to easy and you basically won't use any of your recovery charges until most of the way through the intro. I started playing this when I was less skilled at playing console games so I'd suggest even with the above tips you get comfortable with controllers and shooters first rather than dive into this as a complete newbie.

I loved it and highly recommend it, the combat system is just brilliant. They'd put up such a huge effort in making 2B look so fast, nimble and elegant at the same time, there are so many different combowombos depending on the gear set of your choosing that will provide a wide variety of options on how to engage the enemy. Then comes the music... MYGOD the music is just as good as the soundtrack of the first one. They kept the essence and writing, basically what made the franchise so awesome and unique, while also improving it's flaws. I give it 9 Hussies out of 10. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE

If you've been craving something different than the formulaic yearly editions and like an intricate plot, this game is fantastic. It's quirky, dark, and just generally awesome. Also, musical score is spectacular. Unbelievably good. Like Metal Gear or 90s Square RPG good. Best soundtrack I've heard in years. They hired the composer to add some music to the Final Fantasy DLC. How often do you hear of Final Fantasy getting outside help for the score considering that franchise has among the all-time best reputations for music?

Honestly the only problem with the different endings is that the term "ending" is kind of misleading, because after you replay the game once you straight up unlock a whole second game's worth of content. It's like they made Nier Automata and Nier Automata 2 and just crammed them into the same game. Which I like because to me there's no better feeling than finishing a good, but somewhat short game only to find out it's not even close to being over yet (Okami, Kid Icarus Uprising, and to some extent MGSV did this as well to good effect). Honestly more game devs should just lie about how long the game is, like if you make a 40 hour game, cut it in half and make the player think they've beaten it at the 20 hour mark, the surprise is always super worth it, it just feels good. The only downside is that, while it's a really cool and interesting way to frame your game's story, hiding the second half of the game behind new game plus means a fair amount of people won't realize just how big the game actually is.

After 7yrs, I finally got this Game! I dont know why I didn't get it, but all the hype back then and now, its is still a fun masterpiece! Playing it in August 2024!

I knew of the Drakengard games but knew nothing about Bier, and when I played Nier: Automata I didnt feel lost or confused. The game explains its story quite well and has a lot of content in it to keep the player interested. From the story missions, to side quests, this game keeps it fresh in a way. I never felt like it was repetitive or overusing any elements. Over the course of the storyline you do grow to love the leads(me personally, I grew to hate 9S's character towards the end, but I understood him at the sametime). is felt a little too whiney to me and it got really annoying really fast but I understand why he was like that and therefore I dont completely hate his character, I hate the way he ends up. When it's all said and done I love this game and hope that it gets the respect and recognition it deserves.

Deep philosophy is what makes this game one of the greatest, you can enjoy it just slashing stuff but if you dive deep into the questions in the game, the philosophical caracters and references you can go miles and get completly lost as it names like Nietzche, Jean Paul Sarthre, Simone De´Beauvoir, Soren Kierkegaard, Blaise Pascal, Shakespeare, Marx and Engels, Immanuel Kant, Zhuangzi; and shows all the main human comcepts of life and consciens (to be sure it grasp all your possible explanations of meanings for life) and destroys it with no mearcy to the point you don´t know what makes a person be a person, you can go as far as you like, but I enjoyed going all the way down to the deepest botton of it, and I strongly recommend you do it! trough all the multiple main endings.

One thing I really liked about the game is all the different weapon combinations there are. If you're bored of the combat, just switch up your weapons and try the new combos.

ThatUndeadLegacy What benefit would they get from delaying a game by two weeks? It's illogical. Consoles are more popular in Japan, so they tend to prioritize PS4 ports. PC gaming is very rare in Japan.

Maybe you made yourself a disservice by not playing the entire game?.....is an experience that I highly recommend....this is a real video game (old school + pushing modern design) experience; I consider this to be one of the very few (and misunderstood) masterpiece video games of this generation; mainstream gamers nowadays most likely won't get the point; this is gaming at it's very classical style......not even mentioning the music yet.....this game has the ability of pushing your hearing sense to entice your other senses.....it is art

Minor nitpick from 3:18 when you finish playthrough A there are 4 not 5 more official endings to achieve but if you only finish the game to credits once there are literally 25 more endings to achieve. Not really a big deal to call out but details do matter especially with a game as detailed as this. If you enjoy video games this is one of the few in this medium I must say is a must play at least through endings A, B, C, D & E. In my personal opinion it is one of the most important video games to ever have been created and is a must play.

Ahh, how I miss the old Before You Buy's from gameranx, where not everything has to be 10 minutes long and the narrator doesn't slur or intentionally slow his speech to pad the runtime. Good times.
