There are exactly zero reasons to overcomplicate gaming with blockchain. This is a solution in search of a problem. Nobody needs it. This is a lost cause. The future is with real innovations, not attemps to milk gamers by yet another middleman who wants to get a cut from transactions. Let's be honest. The whole talk is not about gaming at all, but about a fintech startup that wants to get into gaming industry payments on the crypto hype.

Blockchain isn't required nor does it bring any benefits to in game items since the item always has to be somehow stored and honored by the respective game company. The player can't take his batman costume to another video game. The company therefore doesn't have any reason to use blockchain as opposed to a central database for tracking that ownership. The reason trading in game items isn't done often is because game companies would lose money to the resell market - it's the same reason game companies don't like secondary markets for their games and try things like registration/subscriptions/in game items locked to accounts to prevent that. From a man who has such experience in the game industry, I'm really surprised to see these arguments made.

The point of Forte is to have a $100M fund to discover what those incentives are for game developers so that you can use secondary markets and still make a living. The only way to do this is with blockchain technology.

This is very short sighted. Since you can take the asset out of the game, someone could develop a game say an alternate universe to fortnite and allow the asset to be use there. Therefore also taking some traffic for fortnite. And fortnite can take advantage by releasing sdk where devs build meta verse etc.
@YaderniyBombardir
@YaderniyBombardir 2 жыл бұрын
@@fa6805 But the key thing is, for such system you have no need for blockchain at all. Just a global third party company account which you would use for all games and earn all items to this associated account.

All the use cases mentioned could be implemented right now without blockchain. Blockchain is just a way to implement it. I see potential in these use cases as he mentioned, but not especially thanks to Blockchain.

Very cool talk Kevin, love the idea of building platforms within gaming communities. Would these platform's work across multiple games or be catered to individual gaming communities (i.e. Upwork for Fortnite, an eBay for CSGO, etc.)? We recently published a video looking at a platform opportunity in building a social network applicable across all of gaming as currently many social platforms for gamers are company or franchise specific.

"A person to truly own a nebulous digital asset and they don't need to depend on the government or financial institution to say that they own that asset..." I would bet the government would disagree with you on that one. All digital currencies are considered assets by the IRS which can be taxable. And if you don't want to tell them about that... well then you'll really run into trouble. Then when you sell that digital asset to someone else, that's also taxes.

when you are playing a game you are using a lot of system resources (CPU, GPU, RAM, HDD, bandwidth) those will be used to create a game specific currency using an open source wallet with a decentralized database that can only do READ and CREATE but not UPDATE or DELETE. You clearly have made a money piggybacking off facebook and esport titles but now you are trying to BE facebook! Even mentioning the ETF masquerading as a cryptocurrency called Libra is further proof of that
