There's a new force in Collegiate Athletics. Equipment of choice? Keyboard and mouse.
Kurt is the Associate Athletic Director and eSports Coordinator at Robert Morris University. A soccer goalie for the University of Illinois at Chicago in the early 1990s, he has also been the women’s soccer coach at Robert Morris since 1995.
Kurt first fell in love with video games after playing video game versions of soccer following actual soccer practices at UIC, holding tournaments between his friends that lasted all night. He turned that passion into a profession by launching the first collegiate-level electronic sports department in the United States, allowing students to train, develop, and practice video games at national and international levels alongside other, more physical college sports.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

It was a great talk but it could have been better had he dedicated at least 5 minutes to looking over pro clashes and doing a ELI5 on it.

okay, i'm all for eSports being considered a sport, but i really don't think it belongs in the Olympics. then again i'm pretty sure there's an Olympic competition that's literally just shooting things with an air-gun and that's not very athletic, especially considering a pregnant woman was a competitor one year, but still i think the Olympics should be reserved for physical athletes. just my opinion though

esports will be a medal event in 2022 Asian games (confirmed) and might be part of 2024 Olympics (90% probability).

League of Legends is a game that is way more sophisticated than most titles out there and hence why there are hardly any young kids playing the game.

He's probably the typical Dota2 elitist, who loves to repeat nonsensical bs without ever touching the game once.
