We aren't going to see a video games crash any time soon. The video game industry is now bigger than the movie and music industry. The reason there was a crash back in the 80s was because video games were a new thing that many people saw as a fad so companies stopped investing in them. What I do see happening is the triple A market shrinking even more and going entirely multiplayer and double A market making a come back.

I have had a PS5 for 3 years and have zero games for it. I just use it to play PS4 games since I never had a Pro and only a Slim. Buying the PS5 was a no brainier since during the time I bought a PS5, the Pro was still quiet expensive. That being said, I'm already doing my part by not supporting the modern gaming industry. I honestly don't like most of the new games, and than you have these stupid industry practices being done currently that make me hate it. I'll use an example on one of my favorite series Yakuza. Like A Dragon Gaiden was released digitally only, so I had to import a physical copy from Asia. Why not give us a physical version? Made no sense. Also, I personally didn't really enjoy it, but guess what. I was able to sell it for almost the same amount that I bought it for. Physical forever, and if there is no option, I'm out just for this one reason alone. Unless the game is like under $10.00 digitally, I ain't buying digital games for $40.00+ that I can't get my money back on. Than we have another, Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth charging for New Game + which used to be free in every game before it. Why ask for extra money on a feature that was a staple of the series. This move made me just boycott the whole release.

I don’t understand why everyone is surprised that this stuff is happening when it’s pretty much been this way for over 10 years. THEY WANT GAMES TO BE A SERVICE!!!! This is not going to go away anytime soon because the mass majority doesn’t care and will pay the price. The last game I did this for was battlefield 1 when that came out and I got burned because the game sucked compared to 3 and don’t even get me started on 4. I am not in support of this at all but it’s kinda insane that it took this long for people to wake up and pay attention to what’s going on and honestly if this current generation didn’t suck then people still wouldn’t have been paying attention. These are some of the reasons I did not buy a ps5 or series x and instead bought a switch and only buy games that I’m interested in and are complete on the cartridge.

Pricing like this is a test from publishers. They raised base prices to $70 and games still mostly sell at that number. Battle passes still seem to work, and other similar models. This is the next step, charging far north of a hundred dollars and seeing if we’ll buy it. At least these expensive versions used to have a statue or something. Now we get digital art books, digital soundtracks, and other things that cost them nothing to include. What worries me is that, if the sales are low, they won’t think it’s their business model but instead will think “I guess no one likes Star Wars games.” I doubt they’ll get the message.

A physical game that requires connection to an online server to be activated has no purpose. Once the server goes down you'll have the exact same problem as if it was digital. Much the same applies to a whole lot of games that in their unpatched vanilla 1.0 state are very rough and sometimes impossible to play through. You really need to look into the specifics of every release to know if there's any point in buying it physical. 1. Do you need an online server to start the game and 2. has the game been heavily patched since its release. A lot of people are holding onto physical copies as if they're safe, but it might be a false sense of security.

I dont really root for the downfall of others, but Ubisoft really needs to fuk off and fail. They used to be my favoriee company next to Rockstar back during the 6th and 7th console generation and seeing the ubisoft logo boot up when I was playing one of their games made me smile knowing I was going to play a banger of a title. Rainbow Six Three, Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory and Prince Of Persia were my jams back then. Then when the first Assassins Creed and Watchdogs games came out I thought that they would continue that winning streak, but they progressively got worse as time went on. Now its become this tradition to buy their games when they are discounted rather then support their titles at launch because the games go on sale not too long after. Sucks because I used to really look forward to video game launches.

I paid $10 extra to play Baldur’s Gate 3 early, and I ended up barely playing before launch 🤡. First and last time I’ll ever pay for early access. On a separate note I’m “over” artbooks, physical or otherwise. A lot of the art that makes it into them is just stuff that woulda been in the game manual if they still made those.

I'll admit I do want this game. I like that you're playing as a seemingly morally Grey group of theives, I like that you're not playing as a dude with a lightsaber. As cool as the Jedi games from Respawn are, a chick with a blaster is a cool star wars thing. But at the same time, why do I buy games brand new anymore? Lost Crown, which IS a good game, has consistently been 35$ dollars the past month or so. I had the Persona 3 remake preordered and paid for, but i had to take it back for money issues. Just bought it a week ago for 30 dollars sealed. I'm not one of those people who are like "erm theres no good games anymore, its just not what it used to be" there's plenty of good games, I just can't adford the big budget ones anymore and they aren't really giving me a reason to buy them right away anymore

If I'm expected to pay that much at launch to get everything they decided to cut out of the game, then they can go screw themselves. I've said the same thing for the past decade. I rarely bought games like that, and I don't anymore. I'll take that money and put it towards an old game that I want more (and is very likely to be way better quality), anyway. Or put it towards something more important to survive in the screwed economy we have right now. Being a gamer these days is like being a glutten for punishment on the gamers' part, cause many gamers keep buying this crap and have no self control, which leads to the rest of us suffering with them.

This kind of predatory practice is not the way to go. if they want to have a season pass, they should just release it at a more reasonable price. Charging this much is just ridiculous and not sustainable for the long term.

I agree. $10 pass that gives cosmetics on day one, then additional missions as they develop them throughout the year. I don’t think people would have as big of an issue with something like that.

Me and my friend are pretty much done with Ubisoft. My last game with ubi was AC Valhalla, after that i was done. I rather support developers who atleast give us demos to play like Stellar Blade.

Wow you mean I can pay more to get early access to a game that will most likely need a day one update anyways. Sign me up... for buying it when it's 20 dollars months later.

If i were spending $130 on a game, it better be a physical edition with tons of physical goodies AND in game digital stuff. This is ridiculous. Thats why i stick to standard editions mostly.

This is one reason why i don't buy AAA games anymore. For one, they don't interest me much. Two, it's bs like this. There's a lot of AA games and retro inspired indie games on Switch that i like. Some of which are physical which is good because i don't support digital.

I would never pay extra for digital versions, they are still too expensive. Ubisoft especially produces very average games which are hardly even worth buying, the last Assassin's Creed was a lame cash grab too and I'm glad I didn't buy it. The only game of theirs I'm interested is Avatar and I'm only getting it from sale as a physical copy. I still haven't gotten Alan Wake 2 on PS5, because I want a physical copy. Even on sale the digital copy is way too overpriced. I want to feel that I own my big games, I like to see the cover art.

My ultimate take is the reason they are using this structure is because it has been proven to be the most effective. People willing to buy day one for $70 are just as willing to pay $130. The alternative is the base game alone is $100 for everyone. Of course we should wait for it to be on a subscription service or used because you should do that with every single game because it’s the most thrifty thing to do. Also the dlc argument has been going since viva piñata put dlc on the disc, ultimately I’m just glad it’s something playable and not “get 2x experience for three days”
@PeteDorr
@PeteDorr 3 ай бұрын
The only thing I think about is there are plenty of other AAA games that just go with a basic $70 base game and no additional higher priced versions and they do fine. I think we’re being tricked into thinking $130 deluxe editions are a necessary evil so that these games can turn a profit.
