With so many space sims so complicated and time consuming, this makes a refreshing change. Pity no DarkStar Two. Fortunately DarkStar one plays well on modern pc.

I hope to pick it up soon, the closest thing to Elite on a Console so I want to play!

What would be really cool,if they had a game that allowed you to design your own ship and simply travel to different galaxies and planets without too much combat,even if it took 6 months to create a ship,now that would be cool... Cheers old time gamer.

@Freemmaann They're totally different games. X3 series has a complicated economy system, and it's main target is not combat. Darkstar One, however, although you can engage in trading, it is very simple compare to X3, and is much more combat oriented.

Just bought this game today. The cover looke interesting, and it's a game I haven't seen in a lot of places. Hope to try it out soon.

I know it's a year later, but I just had to respond. It's been a year and both games remain our few offerings in the space sim genre, so I'd say they're both worth playing, cause what else are we going to get for a while?

combat does not slow down when it gets heavy! your guns slow down cos you arent giving them time to recuperate energy!

And if you want the most realistic and complex starship control but not so arcade version of a video game try : "Universal Combat" for PC. You'll be a commander owning a huge mothership managing ground troops, space battles being a pilot or ordering your crew to pilot,huge trading and...landing!, landing on planets to explore!!(note:landing can be slow but very very real). The best space game but the HARDEST,only if u want command a mothership. It's not a strategic game

Better on PC i have it, to meny button commands on the old xbox remote.......

and if thay say it is sooo ezey on the remote, you miss the sim point of the game, i would say this is a space sim but im a pc man :)

x3 game sucks cause i got stuck in the start where i could not dock on the ship as they told me to. checking online didn't help either. Pressing that docking key did nothing. oh well.. i went back to freelancer

This game is cheesy as fuck. Watching the cutscenes and listening to the dialogues will make you cringe. There was ONLY one funny scene in a mission with the two dumbasses Danny and Brad and the insectoids. I think the character that was supposed to be funny (Hornblower) turned out to be the most annoying npc in the game. I didn't care about any of the characters or the story at all. If you don't mind the utter lack of any intellectual value and enjoy the simple mechanics and upgrades it's actually fun to play.

Freelancer rip off.
