the aliens appeared on 1942 and were finally defeated in 1950 8 years of gruesome war that needed the united might of mankind to repel they waged war in 2 fronts,the soviet and german one,the soviet one is simple,human forces forced an stalemate and grinded the aliens to death over the course of several years,finally breaking that front in 1944 the European front is far more interesting notice the invitation of Scandinavia around 3:05 ,the aliens initially demolished the humans but then the findlands managed to slow them down fast enough so allied forces could get there and stale mate the front i want to highlight minute 2:51 notice how all countries simultaneously send their entire armies to figth i even noticed some south American flags in minute 3:33 the reich collapses and is absorbed by the USSR,while simultaneously,Poland rises again,and attacks,this breaks through the alien front and allows the human force to encircle the aliens and push them back then the combat stagnates again and both forces keep throwing units,the humans to try and encircle the aliens the alien to avoid encirclement,i cant just imagine how much of a massacre was fighting in that front given the high concentration of units there then many of the human forces retire (i assume that combat attrition,economic collapses,logistical issues,morale etc) in minute 4:34 with a breathing space given by the reduction of human forces the aliens pushed forward and slowly beated back the coalition forces from 6:30,roughly 1947 and until the end of the war,many naval invasions would occur,failed endeavors that never managed to break the Scandinavian front,but not useless,for the constant opening of fronts on the alien rearguard gave finland the space to breath and recover in minute 8:38,roughly mid 1949,the aliens have pushed and are almost on the Mediterranean,allowing them to cut the european front in 2 but just then,a new massive coalition major counter offensive begins in minute 8:53 albeit shortlived,this operation pushes back the aliens back to the initial front,destroying all their efforts and ensuring they lose manpower impossible to recover from there the main forces slowly grinded down the aliens by 1950,the alien landing sites were under siege and finally their HQ conquered,the forces left over in Scandinavia were left scaterred and leaderless the human forces hunted them down

Imagine the world after the alien invasion is repelled. There is a feeling of comradery between all humans, but also a ton of alien tech and weapons lying around, everyone would want to grab as much as possible, and this war alone will boost earth technology by decades.

If this idea interests you, consider reading Harry Turtledove's "World War" series. It covers essentially this scenario. Aleins invade earth in 1942, but their drone gathered data on earth was about 800 years out of date. It would take too long for the Aliens to get additional support (about 40 years, because they do not have faster than light ships) so they attack with what they have. It's a great series that I highly recommend!

that would be a great movie! Imagine the soviets getting shot at by aliens thinking it's some German wunderwaffe and the Nazis getting surprised by Bolshevik technology till a scene in the movie comes where both nations' soldiers get surprised that non of them is the one pulling the trigger of this mind-boggling tech. They then decide to unite to defend Moscow after the chilling realization they are against something they could have only dreamt of.

This world in the aftermath would have some weird politics depending on who died in that landing, Stalin probably was killed in the opening blasts, maybe Hitler? Idk when he'd be out in the wolf's lair, far enough away to have survived. But Germany goes from a major agressor to working with The Soviets, there had to be a huge shakeup in the German government and in the Soviet one. Not to mention that the Germans practically lost their entire country and fought from the sidelines in the middle of the conflict on. France decolonializing and everything there is super interesting. 8 years of bitter war, there is definetely some combat grown comradery between all of the nations that came together. I think a UN style organization formed during or after the conflict. I don't see a world government forming for the next 20 years or so but the possibility just increased hundred fold.

Just goes to show, even with a massive technological advantage, there are very few technologies that will allow you to survive against a hundred attackers coming at you from every side and all firing at once, or that can keep attrition from slowly grinding you to dust.

I really love how WW2 stops because theres more pressing matters. It would be cool if the post world would be devided into "Overwatch Spheres", like IRL Warsaw Pact, NATO, Co-Prosperity-Sphere, etc. but rather it's just nations joint military operation centres, where strong nations and weak nations close to each other form a pact to protect their lands and respectful areas of the world. Like the tectonic plates but in Multi-national Alliances, that act as one globally.

A really wack thing that happened when everyone joined into one faction is that because Bulgaria (my homeland) had done the decision to demand claims from Germany, as soon as they all united, Bulgaria forced it's neighbours to give up the territory with the preset status of 'Pre-Arranged Bulgarian Territorial Expansion', because there is no other check than: Is the nation in a faction with Germany?. Is Bulgaria in a faction with Germany? If both are Yes, then the nation gets an event that forces them to cede the territory with the modifiers. As such, when Germany collapsed and a peace deal happened to unite all nations, those checks just fired (you can even see it happen with Greece, and it'd happened with Yugoslavia and Romania already) and one free Greater Bulgaria came. Balkan Freedom has a cost indeed.

This is like Turtledoves Word War series, but with a different outcome

just a suggestion: If you want to create real Worldwar simulation as is depicted in the Turtledove books, i would suggest lowering the strenghth of the Alien divisions (to about 50 - 100x times stronger than average human division of 1942), while giving them about 10x times more divisions a make "landing grounds" also in Siberia, Africa, China, India, North and South America + give Aliens limited number of nukes and very limited industrial capabilities ... i would love to see the results :)
